Brilliant Photos Of An Even More Brilliant Day!
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
It used to be harder when we used the actual greyhound lure that is fixed on the rail and very noisy and doesn't smell like an animal. Now we have the drag lure and use either a fox tail or bunny skin, most, I'd say 90% chase almost straight away. A few take a bit longer but they generally get the hang of it. -
Brilliant Photos Of An Even More Brilliant Day!

Not a silly question at all. Even though we are all amateurs, our whippets dont know that and some of them take it very seriously and get very very excited. Although it's unlikely, sometimes a whippet might get carried away and try to take a chunk out of another dog or even their owner as my own Kibah did once to me. -
Here's what you missed out on. We had our whippet fun day yesterday in bright sunshine. A great turnout with at least 4 DOLers attending and I'm pretty sure they all had a fantastic day. Thanks go to Pete for taking some amazing photos. I took some but as usual was busy doing other stuff. Petes were way better than mine anyway. Have a look http://s212.photobucket.com/albums/cc71/yv...mview=slideshow and here's a few if you dont want to view the slideshow Images courtesy of P Hulks

aah I thought they looked like a 50 but I forgot you had the 1.8, I was only remembering you said you wanted the 1.4 and I wondered if you'd got it. I too love that pic, (well I love them all) that D&K has singled out, it has a velvety look about it, really beautiful.

Annie that first photo is just lovely, just makes me wish I was standing there too, I bet that's going on the next calendar. Congrats dogs4eva on your new camera. Are you thrilled with it. I especially like your first 2 photos, beautiful expression on your lovely dog and I like the way he/she's isolated from the background.

what gorgeous photos and what a stunningly cute puppy she is. Love the wrinkled brow. what lens did you use for these?

have a look here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=154547 and here the sigma http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=527827 the Canon http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=139085 You might not see alot of difference. I think the 1.4 focuses more quickly from what I've read.

He is lovely. I would worry if he's so scared he might fail a temp test. I hope either his owners are found or he gets himself a better home soon.

what have you got? I decided to get a dslr after seeing dog pics on several forums. And then once you get the camera you decide you need a faster lens, then when you get the faster lens you need a faster camera to keep up with it. It's contagious, watch out!

Just a reminder, it's this coming Sunday and just to give you some inspiration, have a look at these photos. They are taken by a woman in the US, these are the sort of photos I wish I could take. Maybe one of you will have better luck than I. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpo...p;postcount=113 http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpo...p;postcount=109 http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpo...p;postcount=107

Really? I have heard some pretty awful things about the rspca here but I didn't know this. Please tell me what brand of fertiliser so I make sure never to buy it. A dog that gets put down ends up as fertiliser if they are buried, or if their ashes are scattered. Think about it. Souff we all end up as fertiliser, you think about it.

When you think about it, it should be substantial, after all, they are using YOUR work to advertise/sell their product. Your photo might make them alot of money. I hope they do give you a 5d Mk whatever the latest model is.

get used to using those lenses first, then you might find you want something else but you might also find they will cover your needs depending on what you take photos of.

I just felt it my duty to inform my DOL photography friends.

I agree, my first thought was a car too. The silly bloke has no idea what the dog gets up to when he's not there.

Just thought I would mention that DWI is selling the Canon 50 1.4 at an amazingly cheap price right now. http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/...sp?idProduct=62 Be aware though that some of these lenses have problems as I can sadly attest to. I have mine back now though, after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing Canon fixed it free of charge. When it behaves itself, it's a beautiful lens and for less than $400 a very good price, I paid almost $600 for mine in Dec 08.

Howie loves oxtail Kirislin. The poodles handle it fine too. actually I have given them ox tails and they love them, I find more it's a price thing with them, our butchers charge quite alot compared to the lamb bones where I can get a big heavy bag, I would estimate around 3-4kgs for $3. I dont like giving mine sawn in half beef bones because Penny scrapes and scrapes the cut edges and wears her teeth away. I suppose I wouldn't mind them just having the big meaty knuckle only if I could get it but the bare long leg bones, I dont see any good in. Not for my whippets anyway.

Leaches How Do You Get The Horrid Things Off
Kirislin replied to Jacquiboss&scoop's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I dont think salt would sting her. You wouldn't need much for the leech, probably only a few grains. I also think the hairdryer would work. I cant imagine a leech would like to be dried out. What sort of environment do you live in to have leeches around, it must be very damp. -
Yep, they are known as terrier ears, and in a whippet it's a fault, but I dont care, I love him just the way he is.

You have some lovely subjects there. What did you end up buying. I too am most definitely an amateur but I still get enormous pleasure from taking photos. You'll have alot of fun. congratulations.

I wonder if that's the only photo of yours they have seen, I bet if they saw how gorgeous looking the humans are in your family as well as the doggies they might want more pics. Show them the pics of you getting kissed and mugged by Asher and that lovely Saturday morning shot of Cam and the doggies. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they wanted to use more of your photos.

OMG OMG how cute is he!!! baby roo roos by the looks of things.
-
Hmmmm, I think they need to give you a camera with video capabilities so you can film him doing his roo roos. What is Charchs story, is he a rescue like Asha.
