  1. When you meet an Akita, you should ignore them. They seem to like to be able to make their own mind up about you. Usually if you ignore them they will come up and lick you and lean all over you. My guy likes being patted on the chest and will duck and avoid you if you try to pat him on the head. I am not sure if this is typically of the breed or not but Raiden wasn't a fan of being patted on the head either. Some can be overly interested in other dogs like Treble is others couldn't care less like Raiden did. From chatting to other owners it seems if the handler isn't comfortable around you then the Akita is more likely to be wary of you. --Lhok
  2. Naww Hank is adorable. He is really getting the soulful goldie look isn't he. Treb used to like Sardines but he is a little off them at the moment. He is loving Tuna though. --Lhok
  3. Greek yoghourt failed hard Treble sniffed it then licked it and walked away. I had to scrape it off so he would eat his chicken. He couldn't go into the vets today for his blood test because I had some pretty nasty hayfever and then he started vomiting a little which the vets told me to keep him home and come into tomorrow. He hasn't vomited since this morning so that is good and he ate all his dinner after I got rid of the yukky yoghourt. --Lhok
  4. Yup I agree with this. Although, if I saw Treble displaying that amount of interest (what was going on with the rat terrier) in a smaller dog I would be packing up and going home as I know him and it would escalate pretty quickly especially if they ran away. --Lhok
  5. Lots of people stop and comment on Treble, however he doesn't really care for the attention. I do get asked a fair bit what breed he is. When I had Raiden I had a lady ask if she could breed him to her Golden who was at the vet for cancer treatment and he was in the last stages of Renal failure, She couldn't understand why I said no. --Lhok
  6. We have had some food success! Treble likes Chicken and Rice, and now will also eat with gusto Tuna and rice :D We know we are onto something when he eats it back to back :D --Lhok
  7. It is looking like the shopping list I have for Treb is bigger then the one I have for myself.. --Lhok
  8. Hmm I've never tried yoghurt with him, I have given him sardines on his food before and he liked that up until a week ago when he left them untouched. What type of yoghurt or can it be any of them? I don't mind giving variety if it means he will eat his food, I used to mix up two different types of dry food for Missy dog and then give her tinned food, sardines, raw meat, off cuts and fruit and vegies. --Lhok
  9. I haven't tried coating the dry food with anything, I'll give it a go and report back. What should I use? --Lhok
  10. We tried the new fish Proplan after you mentioned it earlier, He seemed to like it for a week then just out of no where started refusing it. Much like his Blackhawk, he was happy to scoff it for 2 months then Bam! flat out refusal. His hernia op recovery hasn't helped either, He loves fish but will turn it down too. Seems to only like chicken and rice for now. I tried the VAN stuff and he sat there and pawed all the oats and stuff off his chicken then ate the chicken but now won't eat raw chicken and is highly suspicious of any in his bowl. He is odd, My Missy dog was a fussy eater but Treble just takes it to the next extreme. The vets want to put him on A/D tinned food because he ate it while he was there but I have tried to explain to them just because he ate it twice doesn't mean that he will always eat it. I've started a food diary to show them just how much of a pain in the butt he is being. As they don't believe me (or at least it feels that way) they have scolded me for giving in to him and giving him yummy treat things like raw chicken and bones instead of hard lining and putting down dry food for 10 mins then throwing it away. The thing is I have done that too and it just doesn't make any difference to him eating. Sorry this post kinda turned into a rant.. I am keen to learn about the elimination diet though, can't be any worse then what is happening now  --Lhok
  11. Treb and I are still at loggerheads about his food. Seems like he can only really stomach bland foods such as cooked chicken and rice at the moment. He still likes his fruit though weird dog that he is. I went with Treb's breeder because I had heard good things about her and the one dog show I went to that actually had akitas there I met Treb's dad when he was a puppy (well around 6months old at the time) and he licked my face and tried to sit in my lap knocking me over in the process, I was smitten from that day on  Nova is looking amazing. Lisa you must be so proud. Hankodie: Hank's sire looks so cuddly, no wonder you wanted a pup from him. --Lhok
  12. Had a look at his wound site, it's looking pretty red and angry. I have a vet appointment for him tomorrow so I will be talking to them about it. Good news though is he was super excited by dinner tonight and ate it all in one sitting. --Lhok
  13. He has been pooping, he has been weeing a little more then usual. I was thinking that maybe the antibiotics or the pain meds could have been reducing his appetite but I wasn't sure if they could do that. --Lhok
  14. Cynical of what? I know his refusing food is not normal. Hence why I have rang an after hours vet, I got pain meds the day after his op since it was obvious that he was in pain, I took him into the vet and hospitalised him and they monitored him and then released him. I have tried all his favourite foods and some warm roast chicken which he ate last night but refused it this morning. I don't know what else to do and I am extremely worried I could call the after hours vet again but because he is drinking and his behaviour hasn't changed I would be told the same thing. He is drinking water and his general behaviour hasn't changed he is actually quite bouncy even though I have been keeping him as quiet as I can so his wound can heal. I just don't know what else to try so I thought I would try here. --Lhok
  15. He is drinking and his behaviour is normal just this not eating business has got me stumped. He just noses his bowl under his bed and leaves it there. The Vet I rang basically said if he is drinking and appears happy within himself then the whole not eating could just be because he is a bit sore and the stitches might be pulling a little on the inside. He is on pain meds already though. --Lhok
  16. Treb ate some of his dinner last night which is an improvement but this morning he hasn't eaten anything. I even gave him Sardines which he loves. I'm worried about him. --Lhok
  17. I don't know what I would do. Even though the previous owner had the dog for 7 years, they didn't feel is necessary to chip the dog in all that time. On the other side you have a family who have gone to the RSPCA and adopted a dog and who would love the dog now. They paid the RSPCA and would be out money and not to mention heartbreak of giving up the dog. It could have all been avoided if the first owner had done the right thing and just chipped the dog. --Lhok
  18. Ok so I went out and I got some yummy dinner stuff for treb, Hopefully some of it will entice him to eat. I did buy two roast chooks (one for me and one for Treb) so I will see how that goes first. Thanks all :) --Lhok
  19. The vets tried that for 3 days while he was in there and he barely ate anything I know dogs won't starve themselves but since he has the infection the vets want him to eat as he can't have his anti biotics without food. Before the op he was a food hound, he ate anything that was in his bowl which was mostly dry food. --Lhok
  20. Lovely photos Cassie :D MR SMOOSHYFACE! Gus is looking awesome Steph M Sorry I haven't been keeping up to date with the thread as much I've been a little bit busy. --Lhok
  21. Recently Treble has had a hernia op and while the road to recovery has been a little slow I have noticed over the week he hasn't been eating his dry food if I mix it up with tinned stuff he will attempt to pick off all the dry food and just eat the tinned stuff. He was on Black hawk puppy but he just flat out refuses to eat it even if it is mixed with tinned food or fish. We were giving some sensitive tummy fishy dry food made by proplan and for 2 days he was happy to eat that but now he appears to be disinterested in that a bit too. He will still eat it if it is mixed with tinned stuff though. I have had him back to the vets who are at a loss as to why he is refusing the dry food but wanting the tinned. He is also on anti biotics for a suspected localised infection in the inside layer of sutures where the hernia repair was done. He is also still on pain relief as the wound site is rather large and when he sits and lays down it pulls a little. Not sure what to do about him eating as he has some weight since he hasn't been eating much. --Lhok
  22. I did the same thing when I snapped the handle off my cheapie brush while brushing Treb as his coat is blowing. My package arrived and it was just like Christmas.. a very expensive christmas but the brushes I bought are divine! --Lhok
  23. Yup more then likely it would be the Catalburun. --Lhok
  24. This video popped up in my Facebook newsfeed and I thought some people here might want to have a look at it too. http://www.cinemateca.pt/Cinemateca-Digital/Ficha.aspx?obraid=2548&type=Video --Lhok
