I'm looking at getting a harness, I got him fitted for a halti but his head is too fat for the largest they had  The people at the store showed me a bunch of harnesses but they didn't have anything I liked as they all seemed to roll Treble's fur which annoyed him.I was thinking of a martingale collar but I'm not really sure it would work on him as he has quite a thick coat. So that's where we are at the moment. --Lhok -
Hypothetical: Baby With Temperament Fault
Lhok replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
The bit in the bolded is what my Lab x Kelpie Mischief was like, it was very hard on us all. No amount of training or socilisation brought her around so we use to have to pick our times for walking on the beach and make sure no one else was at the Vet clinic in case something happened. I also forked out a lot of money in repairs to the things she damaged and also in vet bills. We bought her from a shelter where she was most likely put there due to the things she did. Miss despite all this was still an awesome dog and I loved her very much but if she hadn't of come to our place she would have ended up PTS at a young age and although she taught me a lot and I don't really ever want to go through all the heartache (of coming home and she had broken through the fence and ran off, and myself not knowing where she was and hoping like hell I can find her before she gets killed) and most importantly is the toll it takes on the dog and having to sit there and know that there is nothing you can do for them. PTS is an option I would do at a young age if they looked to have a temperament that would cause problems and I was unable to look after them myself. --Lhok -

Ok I seem to have done something right in the sense that Treb will sit for me everytime I ask him at home yet when he is out he closes his ears. I actually saw him fold his ears shut when I asked him to sit. He also chokes himself on the slip lead I have, I have tried a metal check chain and nup he still pulls unless he is tired then he walks happily beside me. While he is tired and walks beside me I praise him for doing it (in vain hope he gets the idea) but I am a little unsure if I am suppose to do that. --Lhok -

:cheer: We have sitting on command! Without doing the Spitz thing and telling me to bugger off. Treb is even getting closer to have a recall :D :cheer: Although now I have said something I bet he reverts  --Lhok -
Just wondering about this, Yesterday I was walking with my daughter and husband to her preschool when a older lady and her elderly chi were walking. The chi was on a lead but he started barking and lunging at my daughter when we walked past even going so far to double back round to have a nip at us. The lady wasn't too phased she laughed and told us that "This is the hairy beast you hear barking through the fence behind the pre school" and continued on. I am concerned about the dog being close to the school although the teachers at the preschool have said that they have never seen the dog try to escape the yard as of yet. Would that be considered menacing? --Lhok

Funny you should mention Kyra, That's who I have contacted to see Treb next. I hope she has a slot available :) if she can't help I'll get in touch with K9 pro, because going to Sydney is a bit of a stretch for me at the moment. --Lhok -

Huski I guess you could say that my requirements for Treb are basic, from where I am standing though it looks like the walls of Troy especially since him bombing out under one trainer. He just doesn't listen to anyone.. much my husband can get him to sit sometimes and he for the most part does things for me but when the trainer got on the end of the leash or if anyone else tries he either tries to mouth them or goes "stuff you mate, I'm just going to stand here and do nothing" I'm not upset with him at all I just don't know where I am going wrong. Lollipup cute horse and Envy is like Barney from how I met your mother, she never looks bad in photos :) . Also sorry for monopolising the thread guys. --Lhok -

My assistance dog needs to be big enough to handle my weight on him sometimes (I can pass out) pull in a harness as sometimes I need help walking. Be obedient enough to pass a public access test which is quite strict and doesn't drool and to be honest I kinda don't like labs, Goldies or poodles (they are lovely dogs just not for me) --Lhok I was going to suggest a Newfie until the no drool point. From the traits you've listed I would say a German Shepherd :) You could also consider a Leonberger, very loving and biddable, BIG and strong, and no drool :) German Sheps and Leos are at the top of the list, I'm still going to have a long chat to the new trainer and see if I can't get Treb to work out though. Another thing is that the dog will have to be happy with walks every other day. As some days I just can't do it --Lhok -
Oh how cute, Dallies are awesome dogs. Welcome to the puppy thread. --Lhok

Well another rung on the I think Treble is broken ladder. He still won't eat bones as he thinks they are to play with, I left him with a lamb shank and I watched him through the window thinking he wasn't eating them before because I was there as he won't eat with an audience  but he picked it up and walked over to his shady spot and started to lick it, he then got frustrated with it as he started to nose it then got up and promptly started to chew on a rock. I then went back outside and started to try and tear the meat off the bone I didn't do a good job of it because one I have fingers instead of pointy teeth and two it was slimy due to dog slobber. He seemed to get more interested in it and had a couple of chews of it but then went back to chewing rocks I have also been told that he isn't suitable for assistance dog material as he is either too headstrong or stupid or both for the role if that is the case though (we are going to try another trainer) then I will have to look for another dog (any suggestions?) I'll be keeping Treble though too many people have told me that if he isn't going to be an assistance dog to send him back to the breeder but I love him too much plus he makes me laugh :D --Lhok -

Well it turns out it isn't worms which is good, it was anal glands.. which I expressed for him much to my horror of getting it all over my pants I have had a shower and I still don't feel clean  and if the washing machine can't get it out of my pants I'll just have to burn them :p --Lhok -

He is given Advantix every 2 weeks so the flea treatment won't be a problem, The other problem is that I feed him some rice at dinner time so I won't be able to tell if they are worms or not. I guess he will just have to miss out on his rice tonight poor Treble  --Lhok -

Question time! I have never had a dog that has had worms before, I have given Treble some Milbemax due to him being pretty interested in his butt and he sort of sits right back on his rump and sort of rocks a little. Now what I want to know is how long does the wormer take to have an effect? as I have checked his poop since giving him his wormer and I couldn't see any (awesome owner award: Because I went out in a raincoat in the middle of a shower of rain to check poop) --Lhok -

Well it was interesting walking Treble this afternoon. While I was preoccupied picking up his poop, a little boy ran up to him and grabbed him around his face and was laughing. I almost died. I yelled at him to leave Treble alone to which the mother who was about 10metres away on her phone ran over and asked if Treble was dangerous in any way. I said he could have been for all you know and she said that she though he was friendly and it was ok for her son to go up to him because Treble was out in public without a muzzle on.. Once I had calmed down I gave her and her son a bit of a talking to I only hope it sinks in. I also was asked if Treble was one of those Japanese fighting dogs and how much did I want to sell him for to which I said he is a malamute (I'm terrible for lying and said he isn't for sale) On the upside though on the way back home a lady and her son stopped me and asked if they could pat Treble but he wasn't happy so I told them he was in training which they said that is ok and I thanked them for asking :) --Lhok -
From googling it appears they are East German lines. --Lhok

Treble and I finally managed a game of tug today :D --Lhok -
Akitas :D Although I would like one with a little less bounce as my one headbutted me in the face today and it isn't the first time it has happened either. Oh and one that isn't broken too as he has also run into the garden shed head first, walked into a pole and landed in a mud puddle, Got his head stuck in the empty water bucket, likes to play fetch for ages and one that actually likes to eat meat off the bone and not think that a turkey leg is something to play bow to and poke with your paw to get it to play with you. I loves him though --Lhok

Hmm, I am wondering if I am annoying Treble's breeder or not. I have been giving her updates about what has been going on with him, when we got him home he had stitches in from when he was desexed and some on his tummy from where he had a hernia repaired and the stitches got a bit infected (all is good now) and then he had an ear infection ( which is all good now) which I have let her know how everything has gone on, however I am now concerned I am becoming that person people shy away from at parties.. You know the one who has all the pictures of their kids in their wallet and their whole life story to tell you  She has been good though, just wondering if I am being full on. gah I have that I am a anxious type.. --Lhok -

Yay Congrats to Tyrion! I am so proud of Treble he has over come his fear exiting the car. Mind you he can pretty much step out of the back of the car but you should see him prepare to hop out, his butt goes up in the air and he wiggles his back feet towards the edge, looks over the edge and then back at me all the while tip toeing closer then he just steps out I must admit it is hilarious to watch and if I laugh he gets all grumbly and gruffs at me while walking slowly behind me. Also while we were travelling (treble does like the car moving very much) he gruffs and grumbles in the back. However today there was a car behind us that got a little too close for his comfort so he let out some "Back Off" wuffs (note not actual barking just some Wuff sound) at the car then when the car backed off a little he made some other grumble sound then laid down in the back without another noise. Since getting him I pretty much haven't stopped laughing at his antics  --Lhok
