  1. Hehe, thanks Doggeek - very tech geeky savvy of you. Yeah I know the breed profile, wanted to see pics of her two if they are indeed King Charles Spaniels. ;)
  2. I've never seen a King Charles Spaniel in real life, not many around. Do you have any pics??
  3. bahaha!!! Love these stories, so funny and cute!!
  4. Both of mine sleep on the bed. Arnie likes being near my head, while Lola goes in the covers and snuggles next to me. I have two cats that I lock in the laundry because at night they just want to get up to mischief and they keep us awake. Unhygenic? Pfft I dont think so at all. The most unhygenic place is actually the office keyboard and work desk. More germs than a toilet seat.
  5. They are just amazing and so is the walking spot, lucky Newfies!
  6. So so sorry to hear this. RIP Brock.
  7. I didn't! I was sick and still home sick from work today, so I have postponed it. I was at the Doctors instead of Lola. While I wait for her appointment I am also going to start an elimination diet. I am just reading up about it, I am going to give her kangaroo and boiled sweet potato/pumpkin. Can the kangaroo be raw, it doesn't have to be cooked or anything? Stupid question but just to make sure.
  8. Have you looked at her vulva? Lola does this when she gets yeasty around there and scoots to relieve the itchiness. If its yeast, there will be dark brown around it, I just wipe it with a medicated cloth.
  9. Haven't experienced this but just wanted to send my wishes to your little darling and hope it all goes ok.
  10. It wasn't diagnosed with a rupture I don't think, as the ear canal was too narrow to see down. There was some concern if they didn't get the gunk out that it may rupture. That's how I read it anyway. Yes thats correct Sir WJ. frufru - To be honest, Im thinking she thought the MRI was necessary for a big money grab.
  11. Thanks for the helpful replies guys. I have booked her in for a second opinion tomorrow at Werribee University, which was recommended by another lovely Doler. Lovemymutts- - The thing is she is only 13 months old, her ears have been fine for a month now, no scratching and I have been cleaning them a few times a week. I am happy to do this for the rest of her life if need be. She has never had pus or blood so I think its drastic action on account of reading other peoples stories about their dogs having chronic ear infections for years and years! Glad to hear your dogs surgery went well though, its a scary thing! I really want to get down to the issue of the yeast/allergies, which is why I went to a Derm in the first place. No point in flushing her ears if they are going to get gunky again in a few weeks! That was my thoughts anyway. I feel confident that I cancelled the appointment and am getting a second opinion. I am seeing a recommended Vet and if needs be, they have their own Dermatologist. And if it turns out she does need the ear flush, Werribee will not cost me a fortune, they are reasonably priced. Once again, thanks to everyone, I love DOL!
  12. Just booked in with Dr Rachael Saunders at Werribee for tomorrow. I will keep you updated.
  13. How are people so bloody cruel? Dumping the beautiful mother, I feel really sad.
  14. I agree with the second opinion. I think sometimes we can rush into things when it may not always be the best way to go. My dogs have continual inflamed ear issues due to a grass allergy. So far we can only manage it and keep them from getting too bad. Good luck with your dog's. CAn I ask do they have narrow canals from it and if so do you just manage it by cleaning regularly? Have you had the ear flush?
  15. Hey guys, I have decided to cancel the appointment first thing in the morning, I am just not comfortable with it. I will be making an appointment at Weribee Uni Vet for a second opinion, they have their own Derm there. I did bring up the question of diet but she seemed adament that we could discuss all this once the ears had been flushed, so I didn't really get an answer.
  16. Thanks I will look into this one. Let you know how it goes tomorrow. Baileys Mum- Which vet would you recommend? Did you actually deal with Dr Burton?
  17. Baileys Mum - Thank you soooo much!! I think that has made my mind up to get a second opinion at Weribee, also saw that the Derm is Dr Greg Burton, heard alot of good things mentioned about him on here and other forums. Its also interesting to hear that your boy had problems on and off for 5 years and you just had the ear flush now - Lola has only had this problem for about 7 months!!! hmmm I think this is too drastic, I am going to call them in the morning and cancel, then ring my standard Vet and advise what I have done, then ring Weribee for an appointment. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
  18. Thats the thing, hers have cleared up with regular cleaning and drops, she has stopped scratching for weeks - but because her canals are still narrow (which could be natural) she wants to do the flush. I'm just not sure. She hasn't talked about underlying issues at all to prevent the yeast build up such as diet.
  19. Thank you Perianath, I think just the fact that I am on here questioning this shows that I am uncomfortable with this, not just the money issue - I would pay anything for my dogs health, but for something is potentially excessive to put her through and it is not going to stop the issue of her getting yeasty gunk down there, so will she be recommending this all the time??!
  20. She already told me she wants to do the MRI. Would I be able to have an ear flush done at a standard Vet Clinic without these excessive costs?
  21. Thanks so much for your advice. I feed her on Barf, took away all wheat,I originally took her to the Derm because I wanted her to help me with elimination diet and if that didn't help then desenzitisation for environmental allergies. I have seen her twice and its always just about her ears. I clean her ears with the brand Paws Natural cleaner and that was helping, she had stopped scratching her ears for weeks. I am looking into getting her some Thornit powder or Epi Otic. The Derm has not recommended anything at this stage though I am sure she would after the ear flush. Lola is only 15 months. I noticed it started during summer, in the warm months and then also when we has been to the beach, obviously she got water down her ears and I didn't even think of drying them out. I haven't talked to her breeder, maybe I should do that and also talk to my Vet who referred me to the Derm. Maybe I should call in the morning and say I have been vomiting all night and can't make it?!!
  22. Yes she has done Cytology and it comes back as yeast. Today it came back as no abnormal findings. But she was so adamant that if I didn't go ahead with this that her ear drum was going to be ruptured because her canals are narrowed. Would I have been better to just continue with the regular ear cleansing?? Oh god, I am booked in for tomorrow morning. This is at the Melb Vet Specialist Centre and the Derm is supposed to be one of the best specialiasts. But then I have been reading on forums about dogs that have pus and blood coming out of their ears and they haven't had this done! And you are right, I try to discuss the issue of the rest of her body, her feet especially and she just says once we have diagonosed the ears we can deal with that issue. So confused. I wish I didn't book it in straight away, I honestly felt pressured.
