  1. Just out of curiousity -and not wanting to inflame - if a dog is NOT registered or microchipped then how can it be signed over to a new owner ?
  2. I was going to bring drinks and nibbles that don't melt - is anyone allergic to nuts ?
  3. Keely's response when I told her off for eating all the cat food.
  4. I have a couple more of Jaana thanks to Jeff of Shuyak and one of mine
  5. Being a reindeer herder ( Finnish Lapphund) doesn't help and being a cat is just as bad ................
  6. The logic or rather lack of it in this thread is I have a well bred pedigree fine example of her breed Finnish Lapphund and yet not one person has ever said to me "thats an obviously well bred purebred dog" . When I walk her together with my shock horror mixed breed dog I get compliments on both of them. Only someone well acquainted with ALL dog breeds could possibly identify every purebred dog. Oh and I haven't read anything in the forum rules that relates to spelling and grammar......................
  7. Don't forget that this forum has a M & M - Mutts and Mongrels of undetermined heritage - thread. Also I haven't found any other forums in Australia that are as active as this one or hves as many knowledgeable members so once again surely the way to go is positive education not elitism and snobbishness.
  8. Why don't you take a good look at the title of this thread and then what this forum is all about - PUREBRED DOGS - also read the forum rules as well here Forum Rules. You may then understand why this forum will ALWAYS promote PUREBREEDS as recognised by the ANKC. Many dolers have crossbreeds which are well loved and cared for with many being terrific dogs, and they are allowed to join this forum and participate in the discussions, but the fact remains this is a PUREBREED forum for promotion of PUREBREEDS with rules governing what is allowed to be promoted and discussed, pure and simple. Wow Labsrule - I feel you are being a little full on with this reply. I don't see that she /he is promoting anything other than purebeerd dogs.I agree with both kyliestar's posts. The elitist attitude of some breeders can put a pet buyer off, wouldn't positive education be a better option? Surely the attitude of pedigree breeders effects the general person who just wants to have a pet dog.
  9. Beautiful looking dog Miss Squish - fingers crossed for you
  10. I only got a couple of photos but I'm getting a disc with 700 !!! that Jeff took So many beautiful Lappies all together
  11. Crap, the vast majority of our puppy buyers have found us via the Dogz site. Find your breed and away you go. The search function is basic and narrows down the states for you, if you'd like. There is some basic breed information on there relating to temperament, grooming and health. I disagree ReadySetGo as someone else pointed out the front page of DOL is all about show results and perfect dogs in show stacks. There aren't any happy silly photos of dogs just being dogs with their families. It almost put me off when I started looking for a pedigree dog -I was almost scared to contact breeders for "just a pet" - luckily the first breeder I contacted was lovely -didn't mention shows at all and was really helpful so I of course I got my pedigree pet dog from her. But there is a vocal minority of breeders that do push the "show" part of pedigree dogs and it is very off putting to the "pet" buyer.
  12. that is terrible - I really don't understand some people
  13. great photos - especially the first one
  14. Keely with a baby Jaana Keely sprung stealing cat toys Jaana after some light gardening
  15. A couple of Jaana thanks to DOLer Tokkie
  16. Well said Corvus - totally agree - I'm know I say silly things at other peoples dogs and cats -especially at shows. Comments about my dogs never worry me, I just smile. No-one has ever heard of a Lappie - most people take a guess at Border Collie X and I'd never heard of Lappies until I found the breed on the DOL list.
  17. Great photos everyone and thanks for a lovely afternoon. Jaana slept for about an hour when we got home but then felt the need to "talk" about her exciting day.
  18. No I didn't mean to imply that just dog breeders be treated differently And I wasn't aware that the RSPCA had an agenda to stop dog breeders. Is there evidence of this or is it just an urban myth ? - not having a go at you just asking...................
  19. Surely that alone rings alarm bells....and rather smacks of a puppy mill? Sure, puppy mills are legal, but it certainly doesn't hurt for the RSPCA to be aware of their existence and to keep periodic checks on the welfare of the animals kept there. Without marching into the premises, Heavy Paws, or anyone who cares about the welfare of dogs and cats, would have no idea if animals are sufferering there or not, particularly if the premises looks a bit 'feral'...so getting the RSPCA to check is a very sensible option. If the owner has nothing to hide and the animals are kept in good conditions, have adequate food, water, shelter, vet care and exercise...then exactly what harm is done by them being checked out? Honestly....I wonder if some of you are just posting to start yet another argument? Keeping periodic checks on them because they breed dogs conducted by a group who is against breeding and who is a quasi police force with no accountability - no way am I giving a tick to that especially as there is no definition which differentiates between them and any other person who breeds a litter of puppies. If they are a boarding kennel and obviously they are they have much harder regs and more frequent checks anyway. If they are boarding animals with out the required permits they would have been shut down long ago and they wouldnt be advertising it either. So are you saying that just because someone breeds dogs they should be immune to any checks at all ? Puppy buyers have to meet a criteria set by the breeder but the breeder doesn't have to comply with Animal Cruelty Acts or whatever they are called ? Even on this forum I have read awful stories from people who have bought a puppy in good faith from a registered breeder only to then have problems. Sure there are problems with the RSPCA but also there must be some form of independent body that has the power to oversee animal breeding and welfare.
