  1. Alkhe gets it. Otherwise known as "Hortaya Borzaya" or "Chortaj". eta - snap Rozzie!! :D Interesting history on these guys for any google nerds.
  2. Sheesh. Talk about starting on a hard one! Xigou?
  3. The important thing to remember is, that if one person is happy with a risk taking bhaviour, then fine. But recommending it as ok for others is a different thing. And the DPI prosecute off label use regularly.
  4. Why are people keen to reference websites that advise splitting, when it has already been pointed out that splitting may be an offence? Splitting vials is "off label use" which certainly is an offence unless under prescription or permit.
  5. We do get the message sheena, that you are happy to continue splitting doses and will defend it in the face of legislation and veterinary advice on here, despite the fact that you weren't the one to question it in the first place. You can try and interpret the directions anyway you like, it does clearly state weight ranges and number of tubes per dog as dosage rates. Not number of dogs per tube. You can do what you like with your dogs, it has been adequately explained why it is not recommended nor even perhaps lawful.
  6. Fantastic photos!! I love seeing these guys doing their jobs.
  7. Using a chemical product in a manner contrary to the label directions may be illegal. For a whole range of reasons. The Advantix label for dogs over 25kg can be read here: http://www.infopest.com.au/extra/asp/infopest/nra/labels.asp?prodcode=58262 Please note that it also says this (for good reason): Failure to use this product strictly as directed may be illegal, prove dangerous or render the product ineffective. In NSW off label use and offences are enforced by the DPI: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/livestock/residues/stock-medicine If your vet is advising you to split doses, it may be important that you (and your vet) cover your backsides and do so under prescription.
  8. Was the prosecution successful? Yes it was. Mr Mister is right, a dally. It was either NZ or the UK. Will try to find a link. Found it already!! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1229188/Dog-owner-banned-keeping-animals-pet-dalmatian-balloons-11-stone-crisps-chocolate.html
  9. Gross overfeeding and obesity in pets has been prosecuted as cruelty before. 14kg for a pug is simply obscene.
  10. Lovely to hear he was with you at the end. Sending thoughts and hugs.
  11. I can imagine that paid advertising would be a no no for the majority of breed clubs, who are all not for profit and scrape by financially anyway. Pet shops being on side and offering info and referral to breed clubs or State bodies would be a big help. But they are businesses, and in reality there would want to be something in it for them. Some better run and marketed ones would no doubt see the potential for forming loyal customer bases for all the goods that accompany a dog purchase. But others would really only look at the here and now - giving out staff time for nothing.
  12. Oh hell yes. But that goes for quite a few breeds. Not just dingos at all. Breeding and keeping dingos is one sure way to prevent them from disappearing as a pure breed. Which would be sad. In the wild there are few purebred populations left.
  13. Some have been selectively bred to retain their primitive types of temperaments and behaviours, because those suit some people's needs and wants. Not all folks want or need biddable, trainable dogs.
  14. And quite a few Sighthound breeds! And many people think they're pretty wonderful to live with. And not the opposite of what people want, they have been selectively bred to be that way.
  15.  I'm so sorry... But just hilarious!! Poor little guy was just soooo ready...
  16. Fantastic!!! A huge ell done to Kyall and his Pharaoh, and to the whole family for supporting him. Awesome to see kids enjoying showing their dogs. :D
  17. I'm going to risk some wrath here and say this is not unexpected behaviour from this sort of dog. I know about how responsible pig dog breeders acre about temps, and only want dogs to be tenacious and hold, not to attack etc etc. But how many of the pig dog types dumped in pounds as youngsters are from responsible hunting dog breeders? Ignorant wanna-be piggers are involved in lots of breeding, and I've met plenty of "bull arab" and other pigging types I wouldn't trust as far as I could spit a rat. They are often bred from aggressive stock by misguided fools. eta - donning flame suit!!
  18. That is so strange. I was just looking at that site, not five minutes ago I randomly found it through Google for the first time. And then I came on dol and found this thread....
  19. Honestly, some of the "genetic condition" labels vets quickly slap on things are a bit scary. I know of a vet who repeat-vaccinated a young pup against advice and manufacturer specifications, it suffered major complications and had to be pts. Said vet conducted PM on pup and was scathing of the breeder as being at fault as the pup was skeletally dysplastic. Which is a medical term for dwarfish. I would hope so, it was a Basset Hound. Sheer ignorance.
