  1. How will they do this homework if they can't ask?? There aren't published lists etc out there for dogs, they're not like cars. Can't contacting and asking breeders be a part of the research?
  2. That may be very appropriate as a group name when they are up and about!! Awesome names everyone. It will be great to be able to give them a list to choose from as the pups get bigger. I think they will be running short on sleep and rest over the next few weeks so creativity might be a struggle! :D
  3. Great one!! I like the China one too - 'specially for a white girl. And we will probably have a Royal Opera as the three sisters in dam's litter were all named for operas - Trittico, Turandot and Traviata. Playing names is such fun!
  4. Sounds like the Chi has an elongated soft palate problem, and the Whippy needs a proper balanced diet.
  5. Oh you guys are awesome!!! I forgot it is the Jubilee year!! That makes it even more appropriate. And I just love Scandal. What an awesome girl's name. :D Pub names could be so much fun J!! edit to add - Royal Pain may be appropriate when all 13 are up and running about getting into mischief!!
  6. Sounds like your sister is wasting her money on food as it's going straight through Misty. Money better spent at the vets.
  7. A fun thread. :) Friends of mine have just had their first Borzoi litter. 13 pups... They bred OES for years and years (and years!) but have been struggling with ideas for Borzoi names as they wanted something a bit more regal that the types of names the OES used to have. So we have decided on a "Royal" theme. Sire comes from a "Regal" litter so this fits well. All pups are white or white and cream. So I have a few names listed, but am after extra ideas. Prefix contains 12 characters so we can have up to 18 characters in a name (including spaces). A couple already: Male: Royal Guard Royal Parade Royal Crown Female Royal Jewel Royal Doulton (call name China??) Royal Opera Royal Ballet I have a few more, but any extra suggestions would be much appreciated!! There are five boys and eight girls.
  8. Buyers need to also remember that dog breeding is a hobby, and people may be busy with other things etc. I sometimes forget to check emails for a week or more, and travel away for work most weeks, have a busy family etc. So while it may seem disappointing to not get an instant response, persistence or patience may need to be involved too. Like Showdog said, I too know that many folks are in Europe, and in my breed,in the US - for big shows. So those at home are extra busy, and little things like email and massages can easily be put to one side.
  9. Do you know the ovulation date?
  10. WooHoo!! Congrats Shantiah!! :champagne: :champagne:
  11. HW would you like a lend of my portable brick wall? It comes in very handy for banging one's head against.
  12. Go the Grey!! Congrats to all the winners!
  13. Don't forget the roaming random salukis. Where's the rolleyes man when you need it?
  14. They wouldn't be accidents. So I've found after some reading. Very interesting.
  15. It's not a registered veterinary product in Australia and cannot be imported lawfully unless you apply for a special permit.
  16. I have to add here, that few (if any) sighthounds in my experience would get more than a few minutes or less enjoyment from a flirt pole. They may have high prey drive, but up close chasing and pouncing about like this is not their natural behaviour at all. It's a behaviour I would personally expect from high drive working or terrier breeds. German and Belgian sheps spring to mind. These threads are banned are they? What's the rationale there?
  17. They have Coprice Working. They have had Bonnie as well which suits them, and we use Bonnie for pups up to six months old. Yes they have raw with their kibble, lamb when available or chicken. The only other time I had a rash on one of them was when I couldn't get Coprice and they had Pedigree working for a few days. So if they had the recommended amount they were losing weight, yet increasing intake is going to cause problems, seems a bit of an impass. The bitch with the exceptional reaction had that while eating the recommended amount, before they started dropping weight and had amounts increased. They did a two week changeover period and she broke out after the frst week of being fully on BH. Being sighthounds, they aren't overly active. They get a half hour stroll every day, and a free gallop a couple of times a week. Otherwise they pretty much sleep. They might run about and play for a little bit morning and night, but next to nothing compered to active working breeds. Thanks for the feedback. :)
  18. WooooHooooo!! What a lovely result for such a young and dedicated girl, and the gorgeous Pudsey. :D
  19. Yep. Sorry, should have clarified. Yes it put weight on them, but at more than double the recommended feeding rate. Which was a little surprising. Mine aren't too active. The benefit being that they liked the taste so much they would eat more of it, so I could increase their weight. Whereas normally they will eat until they feel a little full and stop, with BH they would eat as much as they were given. Not that economics are a primary consideration when feeding, but when you have multiple large dogs it is still something to consider. And we needed lots... I don't know about only hearing the negatives, as I'd never eard anything but good about BH. Surely people don't report the smaller negatives you would never know? I was reluctant to even ask about skin and dental issues as I think it's such a great initiative and Australian product. Yes mine are all the same breed - Borzoi. They do habitually do better on slightly different feeds to many breeds, in my experience they don't tolerate high quality protien and low fat such as roo meat, doing better on lamb or similar. They carry low body fat but enjoy cold weather which burns fat, so a higher intake suits them. I feed mine working formulas in other brands of dry.
  20. Thanks for the replies guys. I was really disappointed, as they just loved it and it put weight on them which I'm often trying to do with some of mine. But the skin was bad, one bitch who has never had so much as a spot in her life lost the coat along her whole topline, in a sticky, itchy mess. It came out in scary handfuls and she was bald from neck to tail. It cleared up and settled with topical treatment, Malaseb baths. But my unrelated male had the same thing on a smaller scale, the whole time he was on it. Whenever one area was cleared up it would break out in another. Sigh... Back to trying to get weight on the youngsters by other means...
  21. My four Borzoi entered today and I didn't make it. Thanks (not!) to the careless motorist who ran into the back of me last week and damaged my towbar. No dog trailer towing for me until I get a new one. Was really looking forward to the day, especially the mothers day classes at lunchtime. Any hound results would be appreciated. :)
  22. She seems to have a Gsd ish look to her topline from loin to tail. Agouti colouring can come from Gsd too I think. But pointer could account for a similar topline too. Do some sled race folks use pointers as well as huskies? Probably not normally interbred but accidents can always happen when dogs are kennelled together... Just playing on Google, seems in some parts of the world a Gsp x husky type is a popular sledding dog. They are nicknamed Eurohounds. Some of them have quite a similar look to your girl.

  24. Sorry, I can't add pics from the ipad but can do links. Side on husky pup: http://www.warrenphotographic.co.uk/19087-husky-pup-lying Pointer pup: http://dailyoxford.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/dsc_1470.jpg She has semi erect ears too which may point to husky. And challenging behaviours can be husky too. Re-reading above, dobe could be a very real possibility oo.
  25. Prominent occiput can come out in many breeds. Her skull really doesn't have any saluki characteristics. It has a weight and substance very different, the depth is far greater, flowing into a substantial neck and shoulder, even at a young age. The front and shoulder assembly is more reminscent of a Gsd than a sighthound. She appears to have rounder style of bone in the legs, unlike a bladed sighthound type. She has a deepish chest yes, but a short loin rather than a sighthound longer and flexible one. The muzzle is heavier and shorter, with much more stop. For this and the occiputal prominence I would be more inclined to look at breeds like the pointer, Gsp or weim. This could also account for the shoulder style, deep chest, fine coat and round bone. Still thinking husky, or even husky x Gsd has gone into the mix. But to account for the additional apsects maybe the gundog potential could be looked at?
