It is the back molars that have the tarter Erny, I will try to do it with the mouth closed, that'll fix the tongue problem...doh, didn't think of that  it just seemed to be easier to lift the lips back if their mouths are open. May not work very well on Daisy as she is missing those three teeth behind the canines and her tongue can pop out in the toothless gap (her previous owner said that she had only ever gone to the vet for shots hummmm) Thanks for posting the YouTube video, it is really informative. What a polite and calm Schnauzer Greta-Marie is.

okey dokey, I'll try the pick-and-flick method again...I wish they would stop suddenly flicking their tongues up and licking their teeth when I'm doing it...Their little tongues Are In Danger!

Hi Sway, I have bought one of those from you but don't use it very often as my hands shake and I am concerned that I'll spike their gums. Do you have any of the chisel-ended ones like this one http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=dental+scraper&hl=en&client=ubuntu&hs=80d&channel=fs&prmd=imvns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1024&bih=582&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=12548968809648658882&sa=X&ei=HSFyT_WnMKXEmQXetaXHDw&ved=0CJgBEPMCMAk and a little OT but 'Hello' Erny you said for me to say hello...I was that woman who poked you with the table-decoration-orchids at the evenings end. Ernie = Calendula, Boronia = Herb Robert :)

This makes me cross, I have lived in rural/remote towns and delivery costs are a little higher but rents/rates are MUCH more reasonable along with incentives for water tanks and solar power, the comment (my bold and pretty colour) is a joke. I think they may be having a lend of you and your Rescue.

well it is obvious from the photo in this link that Bosun's clip is not quite perfection  He still looks lovely with short hair though http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/gold-coasts-canine-cop-worth-10-men-snapping-at-heels-of-crime/story-e6freoof-1226310789012

Oh Yuck.....don't You Just Love Terriers!

Yuck! Yuck! OT: I really love your siggie Boronia. :) Thank you Baileys mum -
I've seen it and done it myself! You don't need to be a hard ass to train dogs, but if the instructor was any good they would show the owner how to get the best out of her dog which in my experience goes a long way to helping the owner feel more confident. I find more people struggle in my classes to reward their dogs than correct them, it's always fun making the big tough guys 'have a party' with their dog  A little OT but in what suburb do you have your obedience classes?

my scanner doesn't work so I photo'd instead. This is from Juliet de Bairacli Levy's book 'The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat' she notes that if gentian is not available get St John's wart as a tea, fortified with peppermint page 249 page 250

The heads are nice and crunchy and have soft centres  -
Yes, the scammers NEVER get back to you when they find out that you have a friend who will go round to see the dogs/pups. Most of them want the pup flown to you through the dodgy Cameroon pet-transport. If you are really interested in the dog you can test them out, using a yahoo/Hotmail/GMail account, by saying you are in another state that is the furtherest form you. If they are legit you can always email them from your normal email address.

I bought some from allcreaturesvets2010 on Ebay on the 13th and it arrived today. They had written 'Plaque remover for dogs' on the customs slip. The total costs in getting it here were $49.16. 9 days to get here is pretty good!

I can imagine that would be the case Lindsay! I was watching your posts on the Breeders forum and was so sorry all the other little ones had not made it I love the looks of Ruby and it must have been heartbreaking for you not to have a heap of tiny Ruby's. The little one is going great-guns though and will be your ❤ pup.

Craniomandibular Osteopathy In Westies
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The one I heard about is a 6 year old Westie and also, recently, a litter of pups. I would have thought that the breeder of the pups would have been more careful choosing the parents. -
what about some non-slip shoes? I Googled 'non-slip shoes for dogs' and this is one of the many shown http://www.waggle.com.au/dog-apparel-m8/dog-boots-c11?gclid=COb3mrH7864CFYokpAodXmWZHg They have Soxy Paws Non-Slip Dog Socks and Power Paws Non-Slip Dog Socks. Socks sound like an excellent idea!

I thought I'd ask the DOL Brain Trust who is the force behind Animals Australia? I can vaguely remember signing a petition to stop the cruelty in Indonesian abattoirs on their site and clicking the 'receive our newsletter' button. The newsletter talks about their Campaign Director, Lyn White, giving talks about Australians uniting against animal cruelty. My question is: does PETA have anything to do with Animals Australia?...if so I may consign the newsletter to the 'junk' bin

I have had an email from a friend who is concerned about Craniomandibular Osteopathy aka CMO or Lion Jaw in Westies. I had not heard of this disease before now. My friend had mentioned that there have been some cases it showing up Westie pups in Victoria. It is hereditary it seems. Here is a link that you can download the PDF which explains it. http://www.westiefoundation.org/pages/health/diseases/cmo.html Has anyone else come across this? and if anyone were to buy a Westie pup how do they know that the parents are clear?...I mean...they are not going to know so they are not going to ask are they!

That is one very pretty (and smart) Corgi!

To be fair they say there was a lot of "gift giving" and exchange of dogs amongst the Nobility of the day. The Temple Priests swapped Lhaso Apso and Shi Tzu puppies, which were interbred. And I would not be at all surprised if Japanese Chin were interbred with some lines of the Peke. The colouring and lack of coat being a clue to this possibility. Here is a portrait of Looty, one of the first Pekingese in Europe and owned by Queen Victoria. She was stolen from the Chinese Empress's summer palace during the Opium Wars. Japanese Chin were the descendants of Chinese Pekingese imported (or given as gifts) into Japan centuries ago. The clue is in the name "Chin" for China. It's likely that Tibetan Spaniels are similarly descended from Chinese Pekingese mixed with some local Tibetan dogs. All these dogs are sacred in lamaistic Buddhism and were exchanged from monastery to monastery. By the way here is a photograph of Looty for those not sure about paintings. Sorry this is OT, but Looty looks upset that she has been left behind when the others have all gone out for a fun time in the palace coach.

I always seem to have poo bags stuffed in the pockets of my jacket/shorts or shoulder bag. I had to go to jury duty in Brisbane and they search your bag...the nice gentleman asked what dog I had

http://qpsmedia.govspace.gov.au/2012/03/14/police-dog-bosun-clips-for-a-cure/ Police Dog Bosun clips for a cure March 14, 2012, 2:02 pm The Gold Coast’s favourite canine will tomorrow give it up for the Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave. PD Bosun, a six-year-old general duties and detector dog will be clipped to perfection during the annual fundraiser which raises vital funds for Leukaemia research. The clip comes just two weeks after Bosun’s part in an arrest saw him bitten on the front left leg by another dog, causing muscle trauma. The bite has forced Bosun to take rest for several weeks before he returns to operational duties so for now he is dedicating his time to charity work. PD Bosun will be accompanied by his handler Senior Constable Wayne Algie who is also participating in the World’s Greatest Shave.
