  1. I wont be impressed if the no check chain collars go through. I bought an expensive shiny one for the girls to wear in the ring so that they can have some bling on. Dont use it as a check chain it is really just a pretty silver necklace for them, After all I wear jewellery so why cant they?
  2. Robert Humphreys from Jimboomba way. Used by a lot of the agility people and has been around for well over 20 years. Cant find his contact number just at the moment sorry.
  3. Judge says next exercise is CoP. Then asks you to stand your dog between markers. Asks are you ready. Leave your dog. The judging starts at the Leave your dog bit. It is usually between the figure 8 markers so they have a guide to see how much forward movement the dog makes.
  4. We are aiming to be there. Look for the nervous lady with the crazy GSP in Open.
  5. Dont worry Jess, we have all forgotten which is left and which is right even in run outs from nerves. I actually had an old time senior judge tell me that same little tip in the ring when I first started trialling. And it works.
  6. Depends on where you live Beth86. I train at Pine Rivers but dont actually use the classes for my trial dogs. Their early classes - Beginners and Class 1 especially are very good, with current training methods in use.
  7. My girls get a break over Xmas as way too hot for us tender souls here. Besides one should be in a whelping box mid January and at times she suffers what a friend of mine calls placenta brain. First trial back for the other should be mid Feb at Nanango.
  8. Worked this time thanks. Love your training shoes by the way. You must get them from the same place as I do.
  9. Not taking me to a clip just a home page though I could be doing it wrong with my not so talented computer skills...
  10. How times have changed, I remember many moons ago (showing my age here) a judge once told me when I first started him in Novice that I over praised my male dobe between exercises and that to have a really good working dog I should not even pat him but ignore him to keep him focussed. I have always used trigger words when working the dogs. One to switch them on, one to reward and one to switch them off. The effect of the words was built up over their whole training life. They can just about do back flips over a "good dog" With the young girl I work now you need the on/off switch as she used to have the concentration span of a gnat (still does sometimes) so a 2 minute heeling pattern was all I could get before she had to be released even if only for a couple of minutes before turning back on. When she is on though it is like chaos on a string if you know what I mean - such a wonderful feeling.
  11. Have only taught one dog this exercise and she is a retrieve mad fool so the snatch and grab was always a possibility. Started with the scout method and at the first sign of snatching I put in a cushion and hid the article under the cushion. (This is cause all my exercises are taught inside where possible then moved out to the yard and a cushion was handy. ) I dropped back to only one article and put it under the edge of the cushion. After a couple of goes like this I gradually introduced more articles. It appeared to have switched on her nose and she never looked back. Hope this helps.
  12. At our club we have a pretty dedicated core group, though there is always room for more. Each month the head instructor asks everyone which weeks they can do and fills out the roster. Allows those of us with other commitments to leave out those weeks where we will be unavailable. Most months I will do 3 out of 4 weeks I guess. Some do every week some do less. Depends on life.
  13. LP I think Kinta is gorgeous..Nice work
  14. Thanks dogdude. Didnt realize that was what it was called until I started looking in here. We just did what seemed to work. Has been much more effective with this girl, she is always willing to work regardless. She will reward off anything now and she has such a joy for life.
  15. Havent done very many, these are just some of our recent training sessions. I am not very experienced with youtube so hope this works. http://www.youtube.com/user/kqabovo
  16. Jackpot is said as the work collar comes off and we race to the bag. Never give the jackpot with the collar on. Had Coco try to leave the ring once after a particularly energetic praise session after a good retrieve over obstacle looking for the bag so now it is as much the removal of the collar as the word I guess that indicates the jackpot is on.. Can replace the collar to pick work session back up if I want to conitinue training though I am a big believer in quit while I am ahead. Edit cause I cant spell.
  17. Never put it out there before about my goals for the girls in a year. Take a big breath and commit to "paper" Pip - Stop being the slack trainer and get her last leg in AD (two years in the making - dont ask) CDX cause I know she can. Coco - Get her UD and maybe a leg towards her OC. (Crossing all fingers and toes and loking towards the trialling gods up there ). Dabble with tracking training..
  18. All of the above just so they don't always expect a reward to come from the same place. Me too. Reward can come from any part of my person depending on what I am wearing or decide to reward with. Though jackpot marking end of work session always comes from the training bag away from work area. Jackpot for one is anything I pull out of bag and for the other food...
  19. Our sweepstakes are run for a couple of reasons. The first is so that the trainee judges gain experience and yes they are watched and advised at each trial by a senior judge. This is across all levels right through UD. CCD are always for real however not just a sweepstakes/practice run out. The other reason is a Novice level dog must score 150 in a sweepstakes before they are allowed to enter a full trial. People in the higher levels do use them as I guess what you guys call a mock trial. Personally I will enter a dog to see what I still have to polish further under the pressure of a trial situation before I enter a trial a couple of months further down the track. Unfortunately it is trial conditions so no rewarding other than verbal or physical praise - which thankfully works for my lot anyway.
  20. Thanks for that. Up here we just make do with sweepstakes.
  21. Can someone tell me what on earth is Foo???????
  22. LP congrats on your first UD trial. Was it scary? And how did youknow when it was time to bite the bullet and go for it? Seita this is becoming a habit with you. Congratulations..
  23. Try the car park at the local Bunnings on a Saturday morning. Lots of distraction but great for breed promotion. I often get "what breed are they?" and poor old Pip gets "is she a cross cause she has white on her?". They are GSPs. I figure if Coco will do scent work on bitumen not far from the sausage sizzle she'll do it anywhere.
