  1. Rose, I have no intentions of removing anything from my post. Please feel most welcome to write your own post If you did not want attention drawn to this post, you should not have bumped it, it had already died a natural death.
  2. Awesome, well done Roova. I hope it all pans out. Unfortunately I won't be able to go to NZ. Would be wonderful if Jane and crew could come to Aus also to conduct a seminar here.
  3. Hi all, a puppy person of ours may need to board their boy (who will be 2 years old by the time) for a couple of weeks in April 2018. As I offer to board dogs we have bred they asked me first, however I will a bitch in season, pregnant or baby puppies at the time, so will likely not be possible or at least sensible. I'm after up to date recommendations/comments for boarding kennels preferably northern/western side of Melbourne although I'm sure they will be happy to travel. They live in Bacchus Marsh area. We definitely DO NOT want group exercise or kennelling type of arrangement and wish to feel confident that our request will be followed. Honest, transparent, reliable, trustworthy, large breed savvy staff is a must. Really appreciate any suggestions and thanks Please feel most welcome to PM me if you feel more comfortable doing so
  4. You are so right grumpette. When Jag was diagnosed we were sitting quietly travelling in the car. Lost in our own thoughts, trying to come to terms with it all. Then I said to Mark, I know this might not seem like an appropriate thing to bring up right now, but are you thinking what I am thinking? He said Legend can stay now right? I gave him that knowing agreeing look and we went back to silence.
  5. Try now perse, I thought I had posted it public, apparently not LOL
  6. We were so lucky Perse. Did you see the video I posted? Just wondering if I should post it in a new post so everyone can see it?
  7. Thanks PK. So with the dolphins, I was at the beach with the girls, they were doing what we always do, swim out to the toy I threw, fetching and bringing it back to me, rinse and repeat. both girls were getting over injuries, so t was only meant to be a short swim. I spotted the dolphins out further as they were going out to get the toy. so did Seven. They started swimming in towards her and she decided to go and check them out. they swam adjacent to the shore for a fair way... Seven ignoring my calls of course. The dolphins were having such a great time diving and jumping. Eventually Seven got tired and came out of the water and wandered back over to me as she had swum a fair way along from us. I figured the dolphins were gone by then, but as I popped the girls back on lead and entered the water for them to stand for a while, the dolphins came back again, right in close to us this time. A lady videod for me. And the young boy and his mother I do not know were in the water also. The dolphins wanted my dogs to go and play with them again. I wish I could have let them off again but I didn't want them to aggravate their injuries. It was such a special moment for us. Shame the first section of the video is missing where Seven was swimming with the dolphins for about 5 minutes, but the lady videoing had to split it cause it was too big.

  9. I have tried to attach a video I have of Seven, Dance and I at the beach a couple of weeks ago. Seven went for a huge swim with 3 dolphins and then 2 of the dolphins came right in to spend time with us in the shallows. It was the most mind blowing experience. The video is too big to attach here. I wonder if I can post a link? gorgeous Pers, thanks for sharing. Yes, Legend is still with us and given we sadly lost Jag 2 weeks ago, Mark insists Legend is staying. We both adore Legend and he is doing incredibly well herding. He is such a brilliant dog, I don't think either of us could bear to part with him now A couple more beach pics of the second time at the beach with Bonn and Legend.
  10. Thanks guys. DDD, noooo, not reserved at all. Bonn is a big cuddle bunny and has no problems at all with cuddles from strangers. Very sociable We took Legend and Bonn to the beach yesterday morning. They had a ball
  11. Been a while, so thought I'd pop in a couple of updated pics of the puppies, now 11 months old. Bonn is currently visiting for 10 days while her owner is away.
  12. Yes, well it is an unusual way to do it. Usually if the pup is going to a show home, it is sold as a "show potential" "breeding potential". Everything depends upon your sales agreement with the breeder. When you first contacted them did you explain that you intended to be showing and breeding your puppy? Everything should be discussed well and truly before you get the puppy. If the breeder decides your puppy is not show worthy or has a DQ fault, then you have a lovely pet on Limited Register, unless you ensured something to the contrary was written into the contract.
  13. That is all excellent news Well done on your research. The upgrade fee the breeder is advising is not relative to the cost of the registration upgrade itself but rather how your breeder feels about you owning, showing and potentially breeding with one of their puppies and how they value this puppy's potential. It is not uncommon for show/breeding prospects to attract a higher purchase price. There is more pressure, expectation and responsibility placed on the breeder. Wishing you and your family all the very best in your new venture
  14. I would be a little concerned here. Sounds a bit sus to me. It is highly unusual in our breed for an ethical, reputable breeder to sell a puppy on Main Register (or offer an upgrade) to a person who has never owned a pure bred dog before, let alone an unproven show home or not a registered breeder with excellent track record. My guess is this is NOT an NRCA breeder? If you want to PM the prefix I should be able to shed some light for you As Allerzeit said, ensure you have seen document official Lab proof that both sire and dam are not JLPP Carriers.
  15. You and your son are very welcome. We are trying to get this information out as best as we can. I hope it does all go very well with this breeder. If not, I won't be having a litter for another 12 months, but I can certainly direct him towards some reputable breeders
  16. That is so sad Mjosa. I'm so sorry to hear that your son lost his two Rotties within such a short time frame Thank you so much for passing on this information to him. There are a lot of good breeders here in Victoria. There are also just as many less than scrupulous ones. If your son wants any advice, please ask him to contact me I wish him all the very best with his new puppy.
  17. So sorry you lost Piper. Such a lovely long life, but it doesn't make it any easier. By all means when the time is right, adopt another Rotti rescue, but ensure it is closer to 9 months old, moves soundly, has normal sized eyes and breathes clearly and I should not expect you will have a JLPP affected dog. it is rare to not see some symptoms by 3-4 months of age and deteriorating quite fast.
  18. All the best with Nova and Luna's results Allerzeit. My samples have just hit the US, so hoping for results within the next 2 weeks or so. Totally agree with everything in your post
  19. Placed in General because of the importance, urgency and required exposure of this topic. Within the last couple of years, overseas labs have identified the genetic markers in the Rottweiler for the disease Juvenile Laryngeal Paralysis and Polyneuropathy (JLPP). Most of those of us whom are heavily involved in the Pedigreed Rottweiler community will already know about JLPP. However it would be likely that the majority of pet Rottweiler owners and those researching to find their new puppy still do not know about it. There are also still some breeders who are not aware of this disease because much of this information now available has only recently come to light. Breeders must test all of their own breeding dogs and bitches and also require to view the JLPP test results from any outside stud dogs before using them. Only Clear to Clear, Carrier to Clear or Clear to Carrier should be bred. My concerns are that more than ever it is crucial that persons looking to purchase a Rottweiler ensure that their breeder is doing genetic testing for JLPP and they are not breeding carrier to carrier. JLPP is not symptomatic in affected/at risk puppies until around 10-12 weeks of age, so issues rarely surface until puppies have already been placed in their forever homes. JLPP's mode of inheritance is simple autosomal recessive and if we are testing, arming ourselves with knowledge and breeding sensibly with a plan for a wonderful healthy future for the Rottweiler, we will be able to prevent further spread of this devastating disease and hopefully in time eradicate it all together. Clear and Carrier puppies are healthy and will never exhibit any symptoms of JLPP. It is ONLY when Carrier is bred to Carrier that JLPP becomes apparent phenotypically. Such breedings will produce approx. 25% affected puppies. Unfortunately many ANKC registered breeders of Rottweilers are not breeding in accordance with the National Breed Council of Australia NRC(a). Prior to compulsory testing being implemented many of us breeders are already being proactive and getting this done. We are requesting test kits from OFA (US) and/or Laboklin (Europe), conducting the swab or blood collections here and sending the samples back to the labs. We are being told that DNA testing for JLPP will be available here in Australia sometime this year, but we are not waiting. BYBs and ANKC registered breeders NOT testing for JLPP, now more than ever must be steered clear of as they have the real potential of breeding affected puppies. This is an incredibly shocking disease to see developing in a young puppy. No breeder or puppy owner ever wants to go through this. Most puppies die by 5-7 months of age from this insidious disease. **Rottweiler breeders who tell you that JLPP is not in Australia are sadly very mistaken. **Rottweiler breeders who tell you that JLPP is not in their lines must be able to back up this statement with "VERIFIED" and documented test results. Insist on seeing the results and ensure they are verified results, not from swabs they collected themselves. If anyone would like to find out more information on JLPP, please feel welcome to join the JLPP Australia fb group https://www.facebook.com/groups/JLPPinRottweilers/?__mref=message_bubble Please click on the link below to view a short, educational video made here in Australia by an ethical ANKC, NRC(a) breeder who sadly experienced this disease a couple of years ago through no fault of her own and has been working tirelessly with colleagues to find answers and educate others. Please note, have your tissues handy. JLPP in Rottweilers 23 Jan 2017 Australia
  20. The triennial vac is the same as the annual, only listed and priced differently. It is the same vaccination. You are paying extra for the extra 2 years on your certificate that you do not have to return. A lot of vets will say it is different cause they feel uncomfortable charging so much extra for the same vaccine.
  21. Thanks Simply Grand, I'll have a speak to my vet about triennial. Possibly get them both done today then wait 3 years for next ones... With C5, wouldn't that need to be annual though to cover KC? No, only if you have the nasal spray done for the KC component. Finally the vets and reps are agreeing that the nasal spray is causing KC in too many dogs for it not to be a coincidence and are moving back to C5 all in one injection. They still do a C5 triennial vacc injection. I'd never do the nasal spray again and have spoken at length to a wonderful vet about this.

  23. It's an old one DDD, but yes, I used a coffee bean grinder for grinding dry food for weaning my puppies. Think it is a B&D I also use it to grind dried liver
  24. I too am not one to let animals go on in pain or with obvious lack of quality of life. I would never keep them here for myself. It's not something I struggle with. However, I don't see those that do as being broken as such. Over the years I have seen this in a lot of people and my experience tells me that these people are one or more of the following things... young, have not had to deal with much or any death, scared of how they will cope after "killing" their pet, scared of how they will cope missing their pet, not comfortable with being present in death but feel guilty not being present, struggle to deal with such a big decision, don't understand how animals live in the present. Having euthed many dogs, cats, horses and smallies over the years, sadly it does seem to get a bit easier. Not in the sense that I don't feel the pain and loss, but in that I know I have coped before and therefore I will cope again. I do think experience and age has a lot to do with it.
