  1. The issue with the spirit and the two Rottis that died (one on the debark and the other on docking) is because the parking officials forced my friend to park on the 4th level. She tried arguing but they insisted it was fine. She'd left her dogs in her 4WD many time on this trip and knew the 5th deck was the only place the dogs should be. Their is enough dissipation for the carbon monoxide on the 5th deck, but not on the 4th. Definitely only do the night crossing if you decide to keep your dog in the ute and do not let the officials make you park anywhere but on the 5th deck. Personally, after receiving my dear friends phone call early that morning and her telling me she'd just returned to her car to find her two dogs dead, one on departure and the other on arrival and the third dog affected and her explaining it all graphically to me, I just don't think I would ever risk putting any of my dogs on the spirit. The carbon monoxide from the cars parking and then driving off is the problem. There are so many cars left running for such long periods of time. It is not uncommon for animals to die on that crossing. We rarely hear about it because of what the Spirit put owners through afterwards.
  2. As a breeder when I am screening prospective owners, I look at the whole picture and don't rule out any specific thing. For example, if one of my inquirers was your tenants, the red flags would not be the size of the yard or the lack of experience with the breed. Dogs left alone rarely self exercise. What I would be wanting to see with a dog living in that environment would be at least one of the owners at home, the side gates not able to be seen through and that the dog goes off the property every day and also spends a significant amount of time inside, especially over night. If you don't want the dog to spend time inside I would definitely be saying "no". There is no way they are going to be able to spend enough time with the dog if they both work and don't allow it to come inside at least when they are home. the dog will likely end up a nuisance. The reason someone should be at home is to ensure the dog isn't getting bored and making a nuisance of itself barking and annoying the neighbours. The most amazing owners (first timers or not) who put in loads of research and as much time as possible with their dogs could make it work. I can almost always tell from reading my questionnaire responses what kind of owner the people will make. You can "hear" their dedication If they re an average pet owner, it is unlikely they won't make it work. For me it comes down to "dog crazy person" versus "average pet owner"
  3. Histiocytomas are typically an immunology problem, either genetic and/or a youngster having a compromised immune system purely because of his age. Cockers also known to not have the best immune systems as with Rottis and some other breeds. Given all this, it is possible the reason your older pup has had a wee hiccup dissolving the stitches. Perhaps his body didn't recognise them as a foreign object and break them down. As others have said dissolving stitches can take months to break down and often end up falling out or poking through much later down the track and you just pull them out. surgical site scar tissue, scabs, proud flesh is all pretty normal. These things take a while to heal. Remember your older pup went through a lot... two surgeries at once, general anaesthetic, likely antibiotics. this is a whole to ask of a small body, let alone a young one. Hope your boy is much better now :)
  4. Very welcome Jarrad and thanks. I'll give you a call tomorrow or Friday :)
  5. G'day there, Our family is looking for a best friend for Pepper, a purebred nearly 4yr old female. Initially we were looking at pups but also young dogs would be good > then I came across this forum only today and find I am too late! waaaaaaahhhhhhh If the new home falls through or is not suitable we would love to talk to you. With 5 young boys > 1 dog is not enough! :D Hi Pepperotti, you are very welcome to make contact via our website. We are taking all inquiries and have several that we are screening at the moment. The more inquiries we get, the more chances of the best home being among them :) Thank you! I've sent an enquiry through your website! If not us then we hope you find a suitable home for such a terrific boy! If only I'd joined the forum a little earlier /sigh Thanks Pepperotti. I'll try and respond to your email today. I am pretty crook at the moment. No problem at all, no rush on response since it sounds like you already have a home for Legend so please rest up and get well! Hope your babies give you lotsa hugs ;) Cheers Jarrad (Pepperotti) Thanks Jarrad. We definitely have not found a home yet. We are talking to a few prospective homes. I won't make a decision until I have spoken with every inquiry. it is not first in, best dressed. It is most suitable in, best dressed :) Ok terrific, More than happy to answer any Qs you might have regarding our suitably and/or experience etc. BTW Have loved going through your videos! I notice you have subscribed to one of my channels (be Droned is my business Channel) perhaps if we are chosen as the lucky new owners for Legend I could bring the UAV/Drone with me if you wanted some special aerial photography of your property. ;) totally up to you of course I'm so sorry Pepperotti, I just realised that your email was filed when I was crook and I somehow missed it and didn't respond. I have just done so now. So glad you popped back in here. Isn't that a coincidence you own Be Droned... small world and nice work :) That has just given me all sorts of awesome ideas about shooting herding with a drone :) But my property is only a small house block so not worth even firing up the drone to fly over it, but thanks so much for the offer :) :)
  6. He loved hanging with you too blossom :) Thanks for minding him a few times while we were madly packing up in the crazy wind LOL. For Story fans, here are a couple of recent photos taken of her from the weekend where she took out Puppy In Specialty Show in mostly older company

  11. Thanks Taliecat and AL. We are currently speaking with a lovely guy and his family. Early days, but we'll see. He is local and is offering a pet/working home so this would be ideal.
  12. Sometimes, being a breeder really sux. We are looking to rehome our beautiful and very sweet lad, Legend. Much to our huge sadness and disappointment Legend's bite has moved and is too tight to go on with. We'd dearly love to keep him but after several weeks of serious consideration, we know it is not sensible to hoard dogs. It would mean the end of us breeding such lovely examples of the breed. So many of you terrific DOLers have followed our litter here and been so supportive, so I thought I might as well let you all know, in case somebody here knows of someone looking for an amazingly wonderful dog. We are not in hurry to move him on and will be waiting until the very best home comes along. This is a dreadfully difficult time for us, we've never rehomed a dog before and our hearts are breaking. Legend is such an easy going boy, he will adjust easily. He loves everyone. http://www.starkehrerottweilers.com/puppy-available.asp He is also listed in both older dogs and puppies for sale here on DOL Photos taken on the weekend where Legend took out Minor Puppy Dog.
  13. Yes, you are under feeding them. Let them feed until they walk away and let mum finish it. At this age do not worry about hip/elbow joints, unless of course you did not do your due diligence as a breeder and not hip/elbow xray your bitch and use only the lowest possible scores in both sire and dam. At 5 weeks of age you want to see/feel plenty of subcutaneous fat and facia tissue around the entire body. Having them too lean at this age will lead to growth issues.
  14. He is a very funny boy AL, he is a real dude. That typical male care free sort of almost holier than thou, confident sort of attitude towards life. He just wanders over to OH and puts one leg up and proceeds one leg at a time until he has crawled all the way up. Only recently he has managed to be tall enough to get the first back leg up on his own. Prior, it would be waving around, grappling for purchase on something Of course if he was naughty or difficult we wouldn't let him do it, but he is very cute about it, just likes his evening cuddle. He is such a well behaved boy, we just can't resist. Must be getting soft in our old age :D He has a very smooch face LOL Saffy Girl, they steal hearts very easily don't they?! roova, he is a bit of a spunk thanks.
  15. Nawww, thank you SaffyGirl. Here are a couple of photos I took of legend just now. Me thinks he is getting a tad too big to be a lap dog, but he crawls up until he is in OH's lap. He loves a snuggle and we don't mind :D
  16. It is frustrating AL. I guess I am just used to it, having owned entire bitches for many years. But definitely in that regarding the males are way easier.
  17. Geez AL, IKR, she's getting worse by the day. She is just resting up getting ready to puppies. I may have to scratch her if she is this bad or worse by Sat. She is looking so frumpy and she will be lazy. She is happy enough, just determined to have puppies.
  18. Glad you and gorgeous Ella like the new crate AL
  19. Yes, she is beautiful isn't she DDD. She's already done 6 specialty shows, winning 4 class in show and coming 2nd in the other two. Very proud of her.
  20. Nawww, thanks guys. :D Seven actually looked significantly better a few months ago, but is currently having a phantom and is quite the frump LOL, milk and all, boobies slapping as she trots. We have a show next weekend, her first in over a year and she is due to have her phantom puppies in a few days
  21. ...and on cattle. Seven took out 2 Started A course passes on cattle making the first Rotti in Australia to have any herding qualies on cattle. This girl just keeps showing all her heart and talent :)
  22. Oh, naughty me AL, you are right, I did forget Seven. OK, here she is herding at the RCV trial a couple of weeks ago
