  1. Thank you guys. I will do an invoice up for her now and take it over to her! Unfortunately my friend doesn't have the money and suffers from quite bad depression and this dog really helps her so I will do anything to ensure the dog doesn't go. I do like this suggestion and I will follow ensure she follows it through tonight as I will be there to be a witness for anything that may happen. Aside from my friends heart being broken if the dog went, Meso would be destined either for death or a horrible life!
  2. I need urgent advice regarding a persons possible legal right to a dog! A lady asked a friend to mind her 10 week old Chi X pup last September whilst she went interstate for her wedding, upon returning she collected the dog only to return it 2 days later as the pup was too hard and peeing everywhere and this little dog has lived with my friend ever since. The dog in question is very much loved by my friend and her children and lives a wonderful life sleeping in their beds, never left alone during the day and has a property to run around on! There has now been a falling out over other matters and out of spit the lady who dumped the dog is planning on coming over tonight to take the dog back despite not wanting her in the first place and hasn't paid a red cent towards the dogs care over the last 12 months. The issue we have is the dog is still in the old owners name only the microchip as the dog isn't registered with the council. Does my friend have an legal right to this dog or to have the microchip changed into her name to prevent her from taking the dog back? This little dog suffers from fits on occasions and my friend manages very well to ensure they don't happen, however if she does happen to suffer from a fit whilst in the old owners care she will put her to sleep! If she takes her she is destined to a life of being locked outside with 2 very large dogs and very little human interaction. The dog is only about 2kgs and is not an outside dog! If there is nothing that can be done I will have to let her know but if there is please point me in the right direction so I can have it sorted before tonight. Thank you.
  3. OSS I also have a horse and our dog isn't C7 vac and growing up we had cows & horses and our dogs also never picked this up. I only 'learnt' of this possible contraction from horse manure when searching for our pup and a breeder passed this information on as they only C7 vac for this reason! However I had never heard of it and growing up all our dogs ate horse poop. The kelpie is 16 now and still eating it and only ever been C3 vac.
  4. They can also contract it from eating horse manure too right? I could be wrong but I heard of this not long ago.
  5. I'm not in QLD however we had our Cavalier desexed in January at 10kgs and it was only around $190. I actually thought that wasn't a too bad price!
  6. Or, before he gets too big, introduce him to littlies who will teach him that they are not puppy play toys and need to be respected! My friend's RR pup was over the other night and spied an elderly poodle that looked like fun. After being fixed with a steely glare by said poodle, she decided that the Whippet was a better bet. This is the plan PF but I will still always be cautious as I would hate to think our dog is responsible at a dog park for scary a little dog for life! Thankfully where I keep my horse they have a little Chi x & another fluffy so he will lots of play time with them and hopefully with the help of us he can learn respect! My sister also has a Pom so I might make a point of taking him to hers also. I bet your whippet gave it a little run for it's money!
  7. Admittedly when I used to walk Oscar and a larger dog was around I used to put him back on the lead for this very reason. Only because he had been knocked over by bigger dogs in the past and because he was off lead and they run away to protect themselves I found it hard to help him or pull the bigger dog off even if they were just playing! I find this fair and understandable because it only takes one knock over from a bigger dog to destroy a little dog and it's nature towards the biggies! Now being the owner of a big goofy Ridgie puppy I will always keep Duke on the lead when around littlies. He doesn't realise the force behind his paws with the play slaps but I do and it's my duty of care to ensure he doesn't scare the little guys. I do hope he is like Holly though with being so gentle but if seeing how he and the cat play are anything to go by I highly doubt it .
  8. It is part of the warning on the packet/leaflet contained within the packet.. The product is deadly to cats. Well there you go! Georgie didn't apply it to her cat but it did come into contact. Silly move on her part if it is a warning on the packet!
  9. Be careful using 'Advantix' on your dog if you have cats. My friend put this on her little Maltese about 2 weeks ago and her cat came into contact with it and it poisoned her and she went into a coma. She spent a few days at the vets and they almost lost her but is fine now. I have never heard of this happening before other than this but will be cautious with what we use on our dog.
  10. I am just as curious as BB a Toy Dog.. I personally put a dog to sleep from this horrid disease ONLY 22 days ago and the neurologist we did all our dealings, medications, diagnosis with was with the very well known Georgina Child from SASH who is probably one of the only educated people in Australia who is offering her time FREE of charge to reduce the costs of MRI's to help find the gene for this disease. She is the one who told me that it isn't as common in Australia as it is in the UK but the more we import UK dogs that aren't MRI'd the more this disease will grow in our Australian dogs. Shortstep - if you are so hell bent on educating the DOL public about Syringomyelia then WHY don't you advertise that this disease is ALSO in the Toy Poodles, Yorkies, Poms and a couple of other toy breeds?
  11. Jules, I am so so sorry this has happened to you tonight! How traumatic. Have a cup of tea and try and collect your thoughts. I cannot imagine something like this happening and I wish I could give you a hug. I lived on my own for nearly 8 years and the hardest times are harder because you're alone! I'm thinking of you and your beautiful dogs. RIP Brock. Xx
  12. That's gorgeous..... "Ahhhh just workin with me Pops"!!
  13. I'd be interested in knowing this too. My pop always gave his dogs Natural Yoghurt but for the life of me cannot remember what one it was.
  14. Seems like a normal puppy to me! She is 10 weeks old, taken away from her home, her litter mates, mum and family! Let her settle in! It's only been 5 days and she is a baby. You cannot expect this little pup to just bounce around coming when called, knowing what praise is and all the rest. She needs to get used to you and you need to treat her like a baby. Try teaching her one command at a time and only do it for 3 minutes at a time because her attention span for now won't handle anymore. We have just welcomed a new pup into our home after losing our Cavalier. Duke is 15 weeks old we've only had him for 10 days and whilst he is learning fast, he is a little bit older. We cater to him as a baby and understand that chances are he won't come when called and when he does we give him a treat, we only say his name for praise so he doesn't associate it with something bad. Mainly, give the pup time. It will sleep for the majority of the day and has no idea what you are asking or saying. It's nervous as it will likely still be fretting. Enjoy it and don't stress. The pup will be due for it's second Vac in a week or two, have a chat with your vet and they will confirm it all face to face.
  15. So sorry to hear Cordy!! Absolutely beautifully written. RIP sweet sweet girl.
  16. BIG Congrats Rebanne!! Big kisses and cuddles for Fern though.. Poor Princess looks a little sore.
  17. As BB has already stated - You can have two MRI cleared parents only to have them produce a pup with the disease! There are no guarantee's unfortunately in this disease and from an owner of a Cavalier that I put to rest ONLY 2 weeks ago from this disease that was just shy of his third birthday I will not be writing this breed off my list of dogs I will own again in the future. My wording from my earlier post is words spoken by Georgina Child & my vet whom relayed her words as we were all working together to treat my boy. Georgina is the one who does the discounted MRI's for the NSW Cavalier Club. In comparison to the UK this disease is no where near as common in Australia! I have the presentation that Georgina put together for the NSW Cavalier Club. She sent it to me not that long ago so it is all up to date! Is it really Syringomyelia that is haunting the bull breeds as well? To my understanding and how it has been described by Georgina is that the main cause of the disease is that the size of the Cavaliers brain is that of a Golden Retriever yet their skull size is that of a toy breed. One of the medications my boy was put on to try and treat this was a diuretic to draw the fluid off the brain.
  18. Seeing the words "Cavalier + Syringomyelia" in the same sentence makes the blood rush out of my face!! I appreciate studies need to be done and answers need to be found however as Georgina Child told us and our vet - "Being unlucky enough to get a dog with this disease in Australia is like being struck by lightening". Thankfully this disease is not very common in Australia so I think a lot of this just alarms people more than it needs to. The reality is 95% of Cavaliers in Australia won't get this disease! Cavaliers aren't the only breed that can get this disease either, I believe also the Toy Poodle and the Yorkshire are just as susceptible.
  19. Beautiful photos Kirislin!! Feather looks to be thoroughly enjoying herself!! Saluki's are stunning creatures!
  20. I used to do clicker training on the horses and it work very well, I can only imagine it works exactly the same with dogs. The click is used instead of voice which is probably better in my opinion as the clicker will always have the same tone! When they do something correct, click then reward! not sure where you can buy clickers from but I would be interested to know to!
  21. RIP Baz... Run free beautiful little boy.. So sorry for your lose BBB!
  22. Dad and house mate comparison is very different! You shouldn't have to beg a housemate to get a dog. If it's not wanted it's not wanted and I wouldn't put my dog anywhere near someone that clearly did not want the dog! If you can afford to move out and get your own place otherwise accept that right now all the dots aren't in a row and it's not the right time.
  23. Thank you MB. That is very nice of you. I do feel we made the best decision for him and it was thanks to the help of everyone on here that made me feel this way. xx Thank you Ruftybear and BIG for you too.. RIP to your beautiful little dog. I do believe I will see him again and I'm not going to let go of my little monster when that time comes! I have two very special dogs waiting for me up there now. Oscar & Macy!
  24. He still hasn't finished his puppy vac so yes DEFINITELY get it done. I lost a rescue dog to Parvo last year and she contracted it likely outside of the pound and she was 1 - 2 years. If you aren't wanting to Vac every year you need to get either the specific 3 year vac or do titre testing! I wanted to play this game you are question with my Cavalier however after losing the rescue I had his booster done straight away and will always vac and titre test from now on. It's not worth the risk!
