  1. I know Koolie rescue has some cute little young dogs that have potential......I have a young bitch here that is so full of energy
  2. Well I thought I might add Tazzie and Curly in for everyone to see, I have had them for three weeks now.........they have just been desexed and are healing well. Very playful and Curly is such a sweet little pup. LOL Tazzie is a live-wire, but very clever little dog, anyone want an agility dog???? Curly has the curly ears :) They were very food aggressive toward one another but are now fine. But they just love people....Thye have an awesome re-call and do love their little crate to cuddle up in
  3. Having been the person that took on the "she will be PTS, if you do not take her" with a massive dog aggressive and some human fear aggressive dog six years ago, I can now look back....... I thought at the time that i knew enough about dog training and dog behaviour. How wrong I was. But I did go in eyes open or so I thought, and have learned so much since. And I am still learning and I will keep learning. At the first she seemed quiet and it was not until week three that she tried to kill our other bitch. Was it not for our dog training back ground ( not behavioural) and quick management, we were able to pull them apart and save our other dog. And that took quite an effort. Afterwards we found it difficult to get help with people who give one to one training for aggression........Six years ago and where we lived there was not much help. I travelled with this dog from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and many Seminars and workshops anywhere. LOL, I still do to this day, learning and learning It was really all these one to ones and three times per week sessions one to tone with one trainer and three times daily training in Obedience ourselves with both dogs (the other bitch) side by side that got her there She is now a totally managed dog....She is easy to have out and about socially with me and is very good in our household with all our dogs. I can now trust her with all friendly dogs, but NEVER with a dog that will show aggression or unacceptable behaviour. She does cope with dogs misbehaving around her as long as I am there in control of her or my husband At our Kennel Club she is very social and happy to meet and greet, but always under control............NEVER would I let her go to an off lead park A dog like this ties you down for as long as you have her. I cannot send her to a Kennel and go on trips. I have no idea what she would do if she was stressed or accidentally put out with the wrong dog or even handled by the wrong person. She is excellent with people who are good with dogs and especially people she knows. But I would never leave her for a week/ fortnight with anyone I do not know. This means that as long as we have her the only long holidays are with dogs. Which isn't really so bad. I also am always aware of my environment when I have her along.....She is well trained and to some it might appear a bit managed. But that is how she is happy..........She has her playtime and silly games at home with our dogs, who are social and very friendly and most of all reliable. But after having her, I would now never put anyone else into the situation we were/are now in.....there are limits as to what we can do with some dogs. And unless someone knows how involved this will be for the life of the dog, it is almost unfair....... I can compare, because when I have my other three dogs with me, I hardly have to keep an eye on them as they are so friendly and will work with anyone. Some social behaviours can be fixed or lived with easily, aggression I would put in a separate box........... I also find it scary that some people believe they can cure these dogs forever......I think there is always the "it could happen again" with my dog (or any dog with that sort of history). I think it is safer to accept that and not ignore...... I will have this dog forever and I do love her and because I have a great interest in training, she has taught me lots and I have now learned lots about behaviour training too, because of her. She is probably the most expensive dog I will ever own, if I take all the one to one training and workshops/seminars/courses that I did LOL.......And now I try to help others, but most people just want to have a dog to love......
  4. Posted my cheque today and my sister and 3 or 4 friends are also doing so. Looking forward to it. Thanks for posting it on here Julie. see you there..........
  5. Two of my newfies are totally tolerant of kids, even screaming, pulling , grabbing kids..Especially my Katy, she loves it. It is a very tolerant breed. But my Rescue newfie Annabelle is only good with polite and well behaved kids, especially girls. Supervise, supervise........it is really the only way. And as soon as stress signs are seen , remove the dog. Annabelle is very obvious with her calming signs, so I just move her away..... It depends on how they were raised and what the kids are like. My BC cross Golden is good with kids, but I am not sude how she would be with rough kids, she just leaves. I think in general, newfies are good with kids.......
  6. That is right, they can bloat......but they are less likely to get the ishaemia due to the torsion. We have the kit, becuase we live quite a distance from the nearest vet.....naso gastric tubing placement can save your dog in an emergency, but it is not a treatment so you still have to get to a vet. I am just glad i knew waht to do at Easter or my sweet Katy-Bear might have gone into torsion. I also use rescue remedy and Accupressure points if I think we are heading the bloat way. Ofcourse you will never know if it is what stopped it or if it was never going to happen I do not feed my dogs high and I feed my dog RAW........I do choose small dry food like Blackhawk if I do feed dry food when I am travelling. I agree tha it tends to be in Families, but also stress and anxiety can bring it on in dogs where it has no previous familial context. I have had newfies since the 80's and I find it the most worrysome problem of all........
  7. I am so sorry for your loss...I know how easy it is for a dog to bloat If anyone is inetereested in more inof on bloat and some first aid whilst on the way to the vet pm me.I have some chart. I have tried to attach here, no-go. Would have to e-mail them I also know some accupressure points that I have used in both my horses (colic) and one of my gorls who ? bloated over Easter, she is fine now and has had a gastropexy....... I have also been taught how to pass a naso gastric tube, much safer than a puncture for bloat and quite easy to learn. I practised on Calves :)
  8. Benadryl is also a good one, I use it on my multi allergy newfie when she has accidentally had wheat.......
  9. We have this...ignore the dogs, but best close-up of our fence. You can also get higher mesh, which i call rabbit fencing It has kept in all our dogs, BC cross, newfies and Kelpeis...Also friends escaping labradors. because the top wire is electric. And some dogs have tried it....yelped and not tried it again. Our garden is 2 acres within our property. And we also have horses. We used to have mares and breed quarter horses, we found this fencing was very safe for foals....Horses can get their legs/feet caught up in ringlock and such. The fact that we have used the electric fencing means our horses also do not lean on it and the dogs respect all fences now, even non-electric at friends places
  10. :D :D :D :D It had all the emotions..........I have two dogs that failed temp testing here at home and they are now both loving kind dogs
  11. We do not add calcium to our dogs diets as puppies and do not feed puppy food...And our dogs do get lots of large bones, we feed mainly RAW, except when traveling we feed Blackhawk. I am not to keen on chicken in general as chickens get fed too much crap where they are raised, unless they are organic free range. I think that is why my dog is allergic to chicken, it is not the actual chicken at all, but the feed
  12. There is a rough Belgian shepherd and a dutch shepherd....... shepherd dog=herdedeshond
  13. My dogs are inside at night and inside/outside if we are home during the day and free roam of the house and enormous screened verandahs when we are at work....They would hate to be left out at night, but love outside time during the day when we are home. I love dog doors for that reason. I have lived in the USA and Europe and I find the most dogs are inside and are allowed to go everywhere with the people....When we lived in the uSA we were allowed to take our dogs into certain Hotels and into a lot of Public places...the same in Europe. Als Public Transport and so forth. I do not like the crating for long periods, especially in giant breeds...i am on a forum (since 2003) and it seems the norm for some to crate their dogs for long periods. I like my dogs with me......My dogs like to be with me. But we have a huge garden where they also like to be and spend time sunning, chasing lizards and just looking out. I do feel sad for dogs that are left out with no time withthe owners. But I also know some people who have outside dogs that do give them plenty of time. In my world they are inside though
  14. friend passed this on to me, because it shows some newfies at about 6 minutes plus.....Amazing how some dogs changed and some hardly. Had to guess some of the breeds though http://www.filminnederland.nl/film/hondententoonstelling
  15. Just noticed the little red dog has only 3 legs ....I find this so very sad
  16. O dear how sad are those pictures :( I hope you can get some legal support........
  17. I have pm'd you.....We have a really good Yard and kennel run.....might be able to help with puppies/young dogs. I do have four of my own, but they are very social with young dogs
  18. I am with Medibank Private for pets..not sure what you mean by promo code. I have four dogs insured with them $104/month ( for four dogs) for the one (silverpaw) with $450 excess per dog per year.....they have paid out nearly $6000.00 for me this year on one of my dogs and they have accepted her agin and her monthly fee went up the same amount as the others. So I think the money I pay monthly for 3 newfies and one Border x Golden is cheap. I do get a discount for us being members. We pay nearly $300/month for the people part..........getting older and all that havint to go the whole hog :)
  19. I have a newfie that looks like totally different dogs with her different expressions and some people say you cannot read a black dog....Annabelle
  20. Good to hear she is home......Get well soon :)
  21. We have just gone the TPLO way with my Katy-bear.......She went in lame and limping and came out the next day (stayed overnight) walking really well....We were diligent with all the restrictions and we followed a rigid exercise regime. Kay was crated for the first week.......Only walked on lead for 8 weeks and even then was kept quiet and not allowed to play with the other dogs.....We are now about week 14 and she is back at Obedience training, free with her friends and playing and running free. Chris Preston did Katy and we have just had a dream run. I am so glad we got it done. Cost a fortune, but Medibank paid for all of it bar my excess. I wish Rommi well and hope it goes as well as Katy-bear's......I was terrifie before the surgery too, stayed at a place just near the Emergency Vets in Melbourne and visited her there a couple of times. I cannot believe how well it all went, good luck :)
  22. Wagga is close to me too..Would be interested to see what this training Event is....... I have been at a few and can only highly recommend them. Would love to attend an aggression work-shop....... to add just finally was able to open the flyer :)
  23. Bonnie was lucky to have found someone who cared...Thank you for caring and I am so sorry for your loss....RIP Bonnie, run free at Rainbow Bridge with all our other Angels........
