  1. Yeah its a bit of a pain. But its good we got it so early. We have made an appointment next week with SASH, so we will see what they have to say.
  2. Well our luck is still crap. Zeus lump was a Grade 1(lowest grade) Mast Cell tumour. So off to SASH for him.... GGRRRRR
  3. Sorry it is a dog act and a weak act at that. Go and knock on the door or leave a nice note stating that there is a issue as the owner more than likely didn't even know. The 2 people that complained have commented to me that they are know quiet and they were told by me what I thought of them and all they had to do was come and see me and I would of rectified the issue which I did. But know there is angst with neighbours when there didn't need to be.
  4. Its easy to know if its a toughened glass door or laminated glass which you can get cut. Toughened has the etching in the glass about half way up or older doors have the sticker. Laminated has nothing it will be clear and usually the toughened will have a little plaque so to speak in one of the corners saying its toughened.
  5. Jazz had her check up today and all is good. Out to 6 week checks know. Spoke to her about Zeus and she said that it is a good thing if it is cancer that I found it at that size. But as she said she will keep her fingers crossed that it isn't.
  6. Well Jazz is doing great but I found a lump on our 7yr old Ridgebacks left eye on Saturday. It was removed today and was half the size of a pea, don't know how I felt it but I did. Vets not sure what it is so its off to be tested. We are praying that its something benign as 2 dogs with cancer in 6 months in just not fair.Atleast we have a good oncologist. Jazz is in for a check up tomorrow so I will quiz Veronika about Zeus.
  7. Go see them, or leave a note just don't go straight to the council its a dog act. Had it happen to me my GSD barked when we weren't home from 8am till 930am every weekday morning as we live next to a laneway and the kids going to school bash on the fence. Council rock up with threats of fines and the like and I have to just suck it up cause 2 people said its a issue but 3 other neighbours had no issues, would of been nice if those 2 had the ticker to come and see me we would of sorted it without getting council involved.
  8. Do your homework on their temperament. RRs are hounds. They aren't the kinds of dogs who will turn themselves inside out for you unless there's something in it for them. That doesn't mean they are untrainable (far from it) but they simply don't live to hang off your every wish. I imagine that for people used to working dogs like a GSD, that could become quite frustrating. I have both and actually they compliment each others personalities. I find the RR an absolute pleasure to own and will always have one, he is easy to train, yes he is very independent and can be a bit aloof with strangers but never aggressive just cant be bothered. Our boy is very loving and is always up for a pat or play with my wife and myself. If I was going to become a 1 dog family I would choose the RR.
  9. I have a GSD and she sheds a lot not as much know that she has only 3 legs but still a lot, and I feel GSD's require a lot of attention they need to be part of the family to stay happy. Get a Rhodesian Ridgeback, they don't shed and are extremely clean and are fine on there own can be a bit aloof actually, our male RR was fine on his own till 2 years but he was inside whenever we were home, and wasn't to happy about his little GSD sister turning up but know he is besotted with her. Also they are supreme athletes but can be couch potatoes as well just have to adjust there food with there exercise regime as they can get fat very quickly, great with kids, good watch dog and very healthy, our boy is 7 know and has been very healthy.
  10. I know how you feel. I live next to a lane way and we used to get everything thrown over. Packets of chewing gum, rubbish. Kids walk in the alley way and bash on the fence causing me dogs to bark a GSD and a Ridgeback. Got complaints from council about excessive barking between 8 and 9am in the morning. This is when kids go to school, asked council to police this as it is there laneway and was told nothing they can do and we have to stop it or e will be fined. So know they live inside in the mornings and my wife comes home (works for the council)and lets them out after lunch and im home by 3pm. The investigating officer commented that she peered through a gap in the side gate and the dogs barked at her aggressively. Duuurrr what are they meant to do. I said if they policed the laneway I wouldn't need 2 large dogs to protect my property as before we got the dogs I caught 2 people in our back yard. But they wont close it as the kids will have to walk a extra 20metres to go around.
  11. Yes she will be, but that chemo is the most effective for the cancer she had. Its the first time that a dog she has used it on has had this side effect usually happens to humans on this chemo, but she had none of the usual side effects like nausea, diahorrea, not eating. Her whiskers fell out around the 4th season but that's it and the nails. Our vet even researched it and there was no literature on that chemo causing nail loss on dogs.
  12. Update, Went to SASH yesterday for a check up and to start the tablet chemo. All good no signs or recurrence of cancer. All her nails have now fallen out and she is a different dog cannot get her to sit down/rest is constantly on the move. She has the tablet chemo with a diuretic every other day and Meloxicam the other day. And a antibiotic everyday which works with the other two to help ward off this awful cancer.
  13. Sorry to hear about this. My 5 yr old GSD was diagnosed with haemangio Sarcoma and it was a lump on her left rear leg. Thankfully after a full body CT scan there was nothing anywhere else but the leg had to come off to get clear margins. She is know 5 months post surgery and still in remission(scans 3 weeks ago confirmed) has just finished her round of injectable chemo and next week starts a tablet chemo which she will stay on indefinitely. Hope your boy makes a full recovery
  14. My wife had a incident like this but it was a leashed area and our GSD and Ridgeback were on leads and a large dog off lead ran up aggressively and my wife tried to stand between our 2 and the other dog and got tangled in the leads as the Ridgeback was trying to protect my wife and she tore knee ligaments and the women quickly grabbed her dog and said nothing didn't help and took off into the night. We went there for weeks at the same time and different times to see if she was there but she never turned up again, probably cause she knew my wife had really hurt herself and it was her fault. Told her next time let our 2 go they can take care of themselves and she said she didn't want the other dog to get hurt!!!
  15. Don't worry about going off like that years ago I had my GSD x outside a vet and she had gashed open her leg and I was waiting to be seen when a guy came around the corner with a maltese x off leash that attacked her she was already in shock with a massive cut from the collision with a colourbond fence while playing with her brother, he thought it was funny but he soon stopped laughing, or couldn't laugh I should say. I avoid off leash parks and dog parks totally as they are a recipe for disaster. Ive had numerous incidents with people walking there dogs off leash in my area Penrith LGA and spoke to council and have been told there is nothing they can do. My Ridgeback was attacked by a staffy at 12 weeks old thankfully I was able to pick him up before to much damage but ever since becoming a adult he has a hatred for staffys soon as he sees one he goes berserk all other breeds he is fine.
  16. My first dog was a Doberman cross something large and he picked me. The mother was wondering around this culdesac with all pups in toe I was working in when I was kneeling down cutting a piece of timber with a drop saw a chocolate brown puppy appeared beside me.I began to pat him when I heard a growl behind me and it was mum a very large female dob. He ran back but he had a distinctive white patch on his chest. The next day same thing he appeared mum got him so I decided to see if I could get him spoke to the owner he had just turned 8 weeks he was free so took him and me and Milo were inseparable for 11 yrs till cancer took him 9yrs ago. He was a big boy 60 kilos but gentle gentle boy. Still makes me tear up talking about him.
  17. We regularly (weekly)take our GSD and Ridgeback to Lewers café in Leonay, and Coffee Club in Penrith by the river.
  18. Don't worry about council rangers they are useless. Report this straight to the police. Saw something the same a few months ago. Buying a drink and a young guy walking his pitbull on lead but not holding him close went past a old guy with a old GSD and the pitbull lunged and took off one of the GSDs ears. He took off, A mate stayed with the old guy and called the police and I followed him to his house and the police arrived and he was charged, and RSPCA/council was involved as well as the dog was highly aggressive.
  19. She is doing well on 3 legs, better if her nails weren't falling out. She isn't as mobile as she should be but that's due to her nails. She know has to wear booties on all 3 legs to preserve the nails. She has had all her belly shaved and will have to every 3 months for a while but she is great within herself, happy girl as always. We just have to keep everything crossed that she stays in remission. Every 3 months will be a bit stressful with the scans but the longer we go the less likely it is it will come back. There were tears of joy today...
  20. Last injectable chemo today and a full check up xrays ultrasounds and she is in Remission ( love that word ) She had a different chemo as the other is causing all her nails to fall out, its not documented in dogs but humans loose nails on this chemo. 1 months time she goes on a maintenance dose of chemo in tablet form. and 3 monthly checks. for another 6 months then if no signs out to 6 monthly checks.
  21. Spoke to the vet last nite, another nail on the other foot seems a bit loose. Nothing she can find about chemo causing issues with the nails in dogs humans yes, checked for anything fungal, which came up negative. Will speak to Veronika on Tuesday and the chemo slows down the immune system hence it takes a bit longer for her to get over the lost nail. She shows no sign of normal chemo side effects but maybe this is her side effect? Will know more Tuesday.
  22. Im asking my local vet today but will definitely speak to Veronika on Tuesday and if so see what I can give her to help.
  23. The rear one is fine but she lost another one yesterday at sash front this time. Didn't happen in the car or once home as she went straight to her bed, then when I was typing my reply last night my wife called me over and a nail on the front paw was missing. She was licking the paw in the car on the drive home from SASH. So back to the vets tonight to get it looked at and some more antibiotics. Will check with SASH if the chemo is weakening her nails as she has never lost one before and know 2 in 2 weeks.
  24. Update, Well its been an eventful few weeks, that damaged nail came out which meant another trip to the vet and a bandage. She didn't move for 3 days with the bandage so I took it off and she was moving round like normal until she put to much wait on that nail and you could see her sort of jump! Chemo No4 today and all went well Veronika is very happy 3 weeks No 5 and a chest x-ray and abdominal ultrasound. The nail is still a bit tender and will be for a while yet but all's good.
