My boy went backwards for a while, now at 7 mths he's pretty good. We just made sure that even though the door was open, that we took him out at regular intervals. Now we can leave the door shut and he'll tell us when he needs to go. He's had one accident but that was because I was silly and didn't take him out to toilet after dinner like I normally do, as he'd taken himself out just before. So of course there was a mess on the floor! That was 3 weeks ago and he's still fine.

Where Does Your Dog/s Ride In The Car ?
Bundyburger replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
My boy is secured on the backseat -
The lenards mince we got was awful. Much prefer the $1kg human grade stuff from Tasman but now Bundy's on BARF from Fresh4paws I don't have to make up my own mix anymore..

Ours get bathed in the bath! A shower attachment is a good idea.. I think I'll invest in one of those, then OH can wash my hair for me when I am unable to

JJ do a fenced run, will be much better for him

OMG I think I want a basset I have one who just nudges the arm.. then tries to get the head under your arm.. then if that fails "WHACK" with the paw and sit and stare till mummy will feed them dinner. The big dog taught the puppy this trick now he does it too, but follows up with a climb onto my lap

We use the wire crate with just an old sheet over the top to make it nice and dark. There's no jealousy here over who sleeps where, it's just how it is. The big dog doesn't think "Oh the puppy gets a crate and yummy stuff and I don't" and the pup doesn't think "But I should be on the bed!" They aren't human, while they get all jealous if one is getting pats and the other isn't I don't think they put that emotion into it that we can when it comes to sleeping arrangements.

I Am Eating An Ice Cream Sandwich....
Bundyburger replied to Dame Aussie's topic in General Dog Discussion
My puppy walked up as I was picking my scone off the plate last night and swiped the tongue at it. I don't know if he actually connected but I wasn't wasting a white chocolate and passionfruit scone so I ate it. I figured he's stuck his tongue in my mouth enough times(not by my choice!) that a little bit more doggy germs didn't matter. He knows better.. he promptly ran out of reach so he couldn't get in trouble. Our other dog raided the rubbish bin yesterday.. he ate something like 6 apples, 2 half packets of dead cheese, half a tub of potato salad, 6 christmas pudding chocs and the plastic they came in... and possibly the lid off the potato salad as that is currently missing. He was a very sooky dog last night. I don't willingly share meals with them though, at best they may get a crust or something when i've finished.. My auntie does the "one spoon for me, one for you" thing with her dog and I think that's awful! -
We have one who is crate trained and one who isn't. There's no problems here at all, it's been that way since day 1. Much easier being able to put pup to bed and not worry about what they could be doing in the middle of the night. I'd just be getting a crate, and crate training the puppy. My boy has his in our bedroom, and we leave the door open all day and lock him in at night. If we leave the door open, we'd probably end up with two dogs on the bed For us the crate is only for at night, or when it's too cold first thing in the morning to pen him for the 2hrs from when I go to work till OH gets home from work. He will happily snuggle down into his doona and stay there. All I have to do at bed time is call him in and point at the crate and he hops in and curls up. Doesn't take long for them to learn its a safe and comfy place to be.. I know when my boy got Kongs at bedtime recently, it really helped him LOVE going to bed as rather than being sent to just sleep he got to have a yummy treat first..

Be it pee or poo the same principle applies really! She could also perhaps smell the poo on the floor as well which is why she keeps going to the same room. I found that just saying no didn't always work, that I had to be slightly firmer and then he started to grasp the idea.

You need to either stay outside longer, or take her back inside and whilst on lead do something indoors to break the "cycle" then straight back out. I used to have to take my pup out, bring him back in and give him some pats. 5 mins later take him outside and he would pee. I soon learnt to tell if he still needed to pee or if he was totally finished. Some days I'd have to repeat it 3 times till he was "finished'. Now I can just say to him uhuh you're not finished and he'll glare at me then go again Re the paw, she probably did get bitten or stood on something. Just keep an eye on her, and if she starts not walking on it then consider the vet. Do not pander to her sitting in the corner sooking with her paw up though.

Hey, first of all, if that's Pablo in the little picture there, he is one cutie... I have a few questions though. Firstly, does your dog challenge you in any other ways or does he respect you as leader? Does he walk properly on a lead, behave around meal times, obey you etc. When you say you catch him in the act and put him straight outside, do you also tell him no and ensure he understands that you disapprove of the behaviour? Do you have him trained to go on command? And do you give the command when you take him outside? I have an entire male too and I can tell you it's possible to train them not to mark in the house, but you do need to ensure your dog knows you're the boss, with no doubt, and then also that they again have no doubt about what you do and don't want them to do. Yes that is the boy in question in my profile pic! I should firstly state I got Pablo at 5 months of age and he had NO obedience whatsoever. In the 2 months ive had him he's learnt sit and stay and will walk on a leash no problem now. My other 2 males (and one female) are all desexed so ive never had this problem and they're all what i would consider to be trained quite well and respect me as the leader. Pablo on the other hand is proving to be difficult. Ive never owned a Chi and as he's the smallest thing on the planet i find it hard to repremand him. When he marks inside i will tell him NO in a very stern voice, place him on the grass and wait til he goes but have not yet taught him a command to "go". There lies your problem.. no matter what the size, he is still a dog who needs to be reprimanded when he has done the wrong thing, or else he will keep doing it. Would suggest you possibly go back to the start with his toilet training and teach him a command to go outside.

You cut a pig in half? Lucky puppy  Bundy was eating whole pigs ears from the time he came home, but he wasn't super tiny. Only ever had them supervised.

Picking New Puppy Up From Airport - How Does It Work?
Bundyburger replied to goldee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Goldee, You won't be able to take the crate home as it'll probably be hired. Your best bet would be to buy your ow, that way when you take pup places it can be safely contained. You'll then be able to settle her into to the crate and she won't be able to get up to any trouble on the way home, she'll probably sleep it off.. our boy did. He wiggled for 15 mins then he just curled up on the floor and went to sleep! OH was driving so Bundy snoozed in the footwell at my feet (he didn't want to stay on my lap) Ahh going through all his baby photos makes me wish he was that small again! -
Shut her into the crate.. give her lots of yummy stuff and make her realise it is HER space.. cos she's shut in she then can't go to charlies and will soon learn it is HER space. You need to be firmer with her now or she'll walk all over you later. Yes it's cute now but it won't be when you are dealing with seperation anxiety or a very upset dog if Charlie's illness happens to take him early. Be tough and be consistent about where she sleeps. IMHO if you're going to crate train her, that's where she should be at nights too.. it would confuse the heck out of my pup if i made him sleep in the crate during the day but on the human bed at night!
