  1. I'd use the coat king as a las resort - we only used it because Charlie has not blown his coat and summer was getting quite uncomfortable for him. His coat has come back but whereas before it felt quite soft, it feels a little coarser now?
  2. I have to say that I ordered a mars coat king for the cheeky boy and didnt really like what it did to his coat - yes it did remove some of the undercoat but it also seemed to cut a lot of the top coat. But that could have been the way I was using it  Picture od cheeky charlie and his coat
  3. If you don't have any fancy grooming products I use the human stuff in desperate times and find it just as good. So la detangling lotion or those smoothing serums in the spray packs work a treat
  4. That's really interesting Lola - I know that when Alecia was taken to the vet he took one look at her and knew straight away what was going on. It was sad that they were unable to save her, she was truly a gorgeous malamute I'm glad to hear that your boy is recovering It's quite a scary thing
  5. I saw a special bowl once that had things sticking up in it to slow them down when eating - I'll try find it again, pretty sure it was a US thing but looked really good eta - found it quicker than I thought!! http://www.brake-fast.net/
  6. Thanks peresphone - yes a front leg and I may have found the cause We did another run over his leg and just below the area that he has soaked through with licking there was a bump about pimple size which had a pussy head on it. A gentle squeeze (accidentally) and a heap of stuff has come pouring out of it. Like a pimple sort of I suppose but a lot more stuff and at the end there was a black spot that come out. I've washed the area and put a wet cold face washer on it and a small amount of betadine. He seems a little restless but not as bad as before If he does not settle we might have a vet trip on our hands. Ill move his mat next to my bed tonight and keep an eye on him Still not sure if that was the cause because he started licking at the top where the shoulder meets the leg and has licked right down to the knee. The lump was on the interior of the leg just below the knee
  7. This afternoon when we got home Charlie's leg was wet - initially I thought he has been in the water bowl again - he has that habit But now I have realised that he is licking this one spot at the top of his leg. When I put my hand on it the areas feels quite hot to touch. I've shone a torch on the area but can't see any bite or puncture wounds. He keeps licking at it though when ever we stop distracting him from it I'm completely stumped - licking constantly is not in his personality traits Gums are fine - pink with normal cap refill time, though they may be a bit warmer than normal He doesn't appear in pain Ate well Went for a walk this arvo with normal gusto We've got loads of spiders like redbacks and stuff here - could he have been bitten? I cannot think of what he could have done but for him to get his coat wet is a pretty big effort as it is really really thick
  8. We bought a Mars and it is good but it seems to have cut the coat a bit - it won;t get used very often here I don't think Have you seen this link http://www.plushpuppy.com.au/gasibesmalamutes2.html
  9. Oh no...... I am so sorry
  10. I remember reading in a book by Dr Martin Goldstein (who is a vet who specialises in holistic animal health) about some vegans bringing him their dog who was ill - he said it needed meat but they refused to feed meat as it was against their beliefs - from memory their dog died I'd suggest kibble at the minimum
  11. Stormie I don't have access to any of the vet journals (unfortunately) The Spotted Devil might though ??? I'm working from home tomorrow so I will pull a heap of my books of the shelf and see if I can find any references for you
  12. Stormie I have a book on over vacinnating which may be of interest - you can borrow it if you want to - if you don;t give it back I can have MCM's Angus It would probably have a lot of references at the back but I admit I have not had a chance to read it yet What about the Jean Dodds seminar coming up? Maybe you could speak with her and pick her brain?
  13. Gillbear and I stayed at the place in Kurrajong which had the old trains our the front. They had cabins or trains you could rent It was very nice and the folks there were wonderful - highly reccomend them and they are only about 5 minutes from K9 Force's property
  14. Go team SAR - I am beyond excited that your amazing handlers and dogs were able to get out there and assist with the search. I can almost guarantee that once the authorities see how professional an operation you have that they will be calling all the time!!!!
  15. I have some more info - it's not the same lady who ripped of myself and quite a few other people Have a name of someone involved but would rather not publish it on the net .... PM please if you want to know - will investigate more
  16. The only info I could find out is that the registered business address is in Quakers Hill - not details of who they are, their experience - zip, nada Reminds me of a very dodgey person who ripped me off thousands when I studied Natural Animal Care......
  17. Has anyone heard of this crowd? www.cabi.com.au Ta muchly
  18. Got my first order from Cliff about 2 weeks ago and couldn't be happier. Good quality, good prices and Cliff turned up when he said he would The dogs absolutely love the mince garlic and veges through it. Now to get the cats to eat fresh meat and I will be happy
  19. Henry gets that sort of vomit and he also gets the shakes which I attribute to the lack of oxygen when he is gagging (eeewwwww gross description). Normally he is completely fine 5 minutes or so later Could be the heat if it is a really hot day?
  20. I am so sorry - you have probably got my message through someone else ((hugs)) Take care of you and let us know if there is anything at all we can do to help
  21. I'd come along AO - as long as I have the funds of course
  22. I remember when I used to insure ostriches they were touted as one of the leanest meats you could get - the boom in ostrich farming has long gone but may be worth looking into for soemthing different We had ostrich at an ostrich convention at Jupiters - HUGE piece of meat!
  23. Wylie I sent both my mobile and my work land line number - nothing as yet but I can appreciate that they are busy
  24. She is on a BARF diet at the moment and they sleep indoors on thick x large sized dogs beds. I could probably restuff it with some new foam as it has compressed a little but they do keep her off the tiles. One of the things that was worrying me was that sometimes when she stands on the tiles now her legs look like they are collapsing from behind her. It was quite bad the other week but better again now. It's so hard not knowing whether she is in pain or not? Even if she is lying on her bed and moves position she groans - I even wondered whether it was a persoanlity thing until vet gave me the injections to give her Needless to say another vet trip but I am not sure if the vet can help?
