  1. Prestige Pets will not sell to internet only businesses ..... These look great - I'd like a couple as well. Are the bodies tough? Pepe loves his toys and throwing them around - this one looks perfect for him
  2. And it won't be through me I can guarantee you that! You give up on dogs too quickly and have rose coloured glasses when it comes to ownership. There is no way I would rehome to someone who rehomes dogs within 2 weeks at the first sign of an issue. Congrats on finding a perfect puppy - let's hope your Sammy never develops any issues or we know what the outcome will be
  3. Excuse me? there is not one ounce of respect in that statement at all and you need to get your fact straight!!!!! The fact i am asking for advice SHOWS i have the interest of all involved.... especially pups.... "Going through dogs at a great rate"??? may i ask what you base this on?? A rescue that DID not work out how i and my family hoped, and i did try all i could and looks like made the wrong decision by turning to DOL for help. Rusky is/was the first dog i have rescued, he had the issue's NOT me and at his age were well and truly ingrained.... as it was him who didnt want to be with our dog. I sat on the phone for 2 days solid, talking with 3 different samoyed breeder's including the president and then secretary of the samoyed club in vic, consulted 3 dog behavourist's and then as much as it broke my heart made the decison he wasnt suited to us. He is now still in my family but in a more appropriate house and it worked out BETTER than well. He lives with a small JRT and is happy as.. not one ounce of agression and that JRT is a male! THAT IS THE FIRST AND ONLY DOG I HAVE HAD TO RE-HOME AND IT BROKE MY HEART. how dare you try and paint me in a different light???? seriously!!!! I have done my homework, and in the process of doing my home work i came across this site and joined up thinking it would be great for people like us who are learning..... I was not to know she did this, and i am not saying she is a bad dog, i still adore her to bits... me saying she may be suited to a older household is me exploring ALL options in my head...thinking of all involved.... I have been reading since i first posted to see what i can read and how i can correct. Geeze, i really made a HUGE mis-judgmen thinking to post here as well to get some first hand re-life advice!!!!! You know what.... stuff this.. I posted here looking for advice... I needed to know that this is normal for a puppy and can be corrected... from experinced people not just books. And you bounce me????? I for sure DONT need this.... im looking for a positive community to be apart of! With all respect winterpaws, try getting ALL your facts straight before typing a post to someone who is a genuine dog/animal lover, who may need to learn alot about traiing dogs BUT does and did not need you to jump them. How long did you have the samoyed before you flicked it? This pup is in your house less than 24 hours and you are already talking about takign it back - yep that smacks to me of a family wanting to make a commitment - but then again maybe I have hear it all before....... You do need to look at your leadership whether you like what I say or not or you will keep finding you have issues with any dogs you "rescue"
  4. She's a puppy - it's what they do. You train them out of it with a firm gentle manner. Do you have any books on puppy care there? Have you got a local library close With the greatest respect - you seem to be going through dogs at a great rate of knots. Rather than dumping everything that doesn't fit some percieved ideal of the perfect puppy you might get out there and do some homework before leaping into adding another dog. Maybe the dog was good in the other home and the probem is your leadership... not the poor pup
  5. Ness I am glad you said that as I cannot find the photos anywhere on the hard drive........... I guess I am going to need to back them all up to the external hard drive as a priority?
  6. This is probably a dumb question but me and the Mac are still getting to know each other a bit I want to play with some photos in Photoshop but how do I get the photos there? Do i have to go to Iphoto and export them to the desktop and then open them from there? I'm still not quite getting my head around Iphoto works and the difference between Mac and Windows
  7. My lord that is horrific!!! I'm glad he is doing OK for you and is on the mend
  8. I'll say what everyone has said and definetely try other options. I'll also eccomend the Natural Vet practive in Russell Lea One of my old clients had a retriever that was car sick a lot and they now use te travelcalm ginger tablets and they work a treat for him. Hopefully that will help your girl as well Hoopefully someone will know of a hydrotherapy place in Sydney for you - it would probably be a huge help Hang in there, I am sure there is hope!
  9. Thanks Flave - I will have to check because I am sure he is on it for a weight issue. He was very obese and was originally on the Hills Fat Ass Dog Formula but it didn;t work for some reason and they mentioned he is now on ZD - he has lost loads of weight and is looking much better. Mel it's a bugger it costs so much! Is there any difference between the vet supplied formulas and what you can buy in the supermarket? I've tried to convince them to go raw but they prefer the ease of kibble and I completely understand that
  10. It's hard to say aithout knowing what the problem is. Charlie did that and when we parted his hair (he has a really thick coat) I found a really big pustule which I squeezed all the gunk out of and he stopped. There are so many reasons why they lick - could it be a hot spot?
  11. I was chatting to an old client of mine this morning and she asked me if it was possible to buy Hills ZD online cheaper. Does anyone know the cheapest place to purchase this? They are payng a bomb at their vet for it Also she had a clipper blade sharpened and it is still blunt - there is a guy here on DOL but my searches lead me nowhere - can anyone help?
  12. Shell - the patttern companies do have them. If you have trouble finding a pattern just drop me a PM and I will find the pattern number for you
  13. Hmmmmm the Canon 50D is coming out??? I still haven;t gotten around to swapping back to Canon from Nikon - and I never use my Nikon because I find it to clunky and heavy. Horses for courses I supose. I'll be interested the review of the 50D although I think i might be better just going a lower model and getting some good quality lenses Goose! You get more money for having them!!!
  14. Henry had the rinse as well initially - gosh it smells vile though!!! We used both the injection and the skin wash on Henry initially Peibes. I wish his thread was still available because it outlined everything as we did it. The good thing about pups is they pick up quickly. Jet recvered within weeks (like 4) and was rehomed looking perfect. His new mum reports he is still going really well and did have one mild recurrence but was easily treated. I think that is where the Advocate would probably come in handy - use it as a preventative of sorts after recovery
  15. They last a long time Peibes - i think we got 3 months worth out of each..? I''ll try find out the name of that new treatment
  16. Henry had those treatments when he first came out of the pound and I have no doubt that they helped his situation along as he was knocking on death's door at the time. From memory we used Colloidal Silver Maritime Bark Blood Cleansing tonic and there was a food supplement as well. We spoke with Kate who works for McDowell quite often and she was wondeful and always happy to give us advice and ideas on how to treat his mange. I am not sure how bad your girl is Peibes but you remember how horrific poor H was. A couple of other things that helped were a good diet and we used Eaglepack and Nutrience at the time. A bit further along when he had a relapse a breeder suggested we use Transfer Factor as her vet had used it wuth sucess on one of her dogs. That worked really well - it was around $80 I think and we ordered it from her vet in Qld. The other thing I notice with Henry is that if we go back to kibble his skin flares up again - not mangey these days but more like a fungal infection. We're doing really well feeding the Myella raw chicken with garlic and veges mix and we just add some rice and an egg to that. He also eats chicken wings and the occasional larger bones. I would not hesitate to use the herbals again and we were supposed to have another DDB foster who was in the same condition as H but sadly he passed away within minutes of us getting him to the vet from the pound. Had he been a foster we would have used herbals on him as well I don;t advocate herbals as the only solution but I do think they help a lot and especially with these guys who have the shoddiest immune systems Has the vet offered other treatments other than Ivermectin? Henry actually had injections ad I would have to look up the name. My girlfriend also had a mangey DDB and she was using a new treatment which from memory was topical - I'll ask her the name of it
  17. If you do not know that for a fact then just keep your misinformed advice to yourself. Blitzing around the forum posting in every thread with zero knowledge on anything and leaving chaos in your wake  Alan - follow your vets advice and keep an eye on your pooch for things like increased salivation, restlessness, fatigue etc. Dr Bruce Fogel has a good book for home vet care which covers basic emergency procedures and Merck has also just produced a book. Both good but never a substitute for qualified advice If in doubt always always listen to your vet and not someone on the forum who is trying to rack up a record number of posts in a short amount of time
  18. Pepe used to wake us early in the morning but know he has realised that if wakes us then he gets put outside in the freezing cold yard to go to the toilet. He prefers to sleep in now and you would be hard pressed to get him out from under his blanket before 11
  19. K9 Force is fantastic - www.k9force.net I'm sure I won't be the only person to reccomend him to you!
  20. Oh Peresphone I am so sorry to hear this :D Sally was such a special girl and I know how much she meant to you Huge hugs from us to you ;) ;) ;) ;) If there is anything at all we can do let us know
  21. Our guys who have destroyed all their outside mats have still not managed to do any damage to the D1000' - it's been two months and I am seriously impresssed!!!! eta - if you are after a raised bed can I reccomend the BFB from Greats Rugs. I first saw them at our local pound and they are so tough - 3 years on and they are still intact and looking good. You can get them here www.greatrugs.com.au and they are undewr heavy duty beds (
  22. For what it is worth we used to give Henry all of his McDowell herbals in his food. I am pretty sure that Kate said this was OK
  23. I really want one of these but saving my $$$$ at the moment I never look at those gold box deals - I might have to start :D
