  1. So they shot the dog because he knocked over some bins? Forget who owned him, his crimes according to councils statements was that he was at large and knocked over bins how fricking backward can they be........... heathens Yes dogs should be contained on their properties but punish the owners not the dogs And to shoot it? How terrified must that dog have been. Asshats
  2. Try this program, it is very very good and Sas has given you some great advice
  3. That is disgusting. I would be going to the local paper I am so very sorry for your loss
  4. None of the horses seem to be in any need of the RSPCA's assistance
  5. Yes we did try with Henry but with very limited success. Sticking to the vets treatment and a great diet combined with the pyohex washing seemed to have the most benefit
  6. If he is chipped as a certain breed then why are you trying to identify him as another breed?
  7. Have you got something up on FB that we can share? 15 and a mum? That's just cruel :( :( Poor old girl should be enjoying retirement
  8. She's home!!!! Can;t wait to hear how this panned out
  9. In this article his mum reports she doesn't care if dogs go to pound http://www.news.com.au/national/lost-boy-riley-martin-4-found-with-beloved-dogs/story-fndo4bst-1226487740113 Stuff that, I would give them a home. They probably kept him alive. Did anyone actually see that coverage on Ten?
  10. Sounds about what we paid to have Henry done recently, and also Pepe last year. Both of them had about 3 snaps each and bills were around $600 ++
  11. Can anyone tell me where the best spot to grab the breakaway collars is? Is Two Small Puppies still around? Also I will need some tags for the collars and want something that won't scratch easily and will last. Any ideas? I've never worried about collars before as dogs were behind 6.5" colorbond fences with locked gates But now we are moving to acres I figure I better get something for them
  12. Esky I am so sorry I didn;t see this, but even if I had I wouldn't have had the answers for you. I would have spent every second looking for you though Your little girl will go to heaven knowing that she had the kindest mum and dad she could have ever have been lucky enough to have had. There would never have been a moment in her little life that she would have wanted for anything whether that be emotional, or physical. Those animals are so lucky when they get your attention. Even the ones who don't end up living with you. Look at our little Pepe. You made so many pleas for the little dog in Hawkesbury Pound who loved his squeaky hamburger. He was the complete opposite of anything we ever wanted and five years later he is still here and spoilt rotten. He got me through a rotten xmas and a prett crappy illness at the time. You're one of the quiet(est) achievers of rescue and I for one am so grateful for what you brought into my life. I cannot even imagine how much the dogs in your care feel that same love and gratitude for you
  13. I'm so sorry to hear this Esky and I'm sending positive thoughts for your little one xoxo
  14. Jo I will ask Elwyn if his brother is taking on any charity work at the moment and let you know :)
  15. One of the wire places has just sent us some more info and pics of their products installed. One of the pics showed exactly what I was hoping to achieve. Hopefully it will attach OK so you can tell me what you think
  16. Thanks Ari and Jules. Whilst I am here, can I ask about using sump oil to paint fences? The previous owner is going to leave us heaps of it to paint the fences but I've got noooooo idea what to do with it.
  17. Here's some piccies that i've made public, as too hard to upload them all here :) https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151126725366457.493853.721411456&type=1 Hopefully you can see them? I won;t leave them public forever though :)
  18. They do nice fencing!! Are you using those guys Nic? I love those gates also! I'll try pull down some pics of the new place. The fencing is very ummm rustic? It will look good when we tidy it up and repaint etc. I'd link you to the for sale thingo but it has the address all over it ....
  19. We paid about 15K 3 years ago for a bit over 330m of 6 foot cyclone fencing fully installed with 3 gates (two double). It was properly installed too, with the posts in concrete and strainers etc plus standoffs around the outside to keep livestock off it. It was expensive, and we've only just finished paying the personal loan off we took out to fund it, but the peace of mind has been worth its weight in gold. We've never had a dog get out and it's still in really good condition. Agree with Sir WJ re doing it thoroughly the first time. Wow that's exspensive So that would roughly be about $45.50 per m..looks like we will be saving for a bit more time then, as we really wan't it for our house yard & we love it in black. We don't need 330m so it will be a little cheaper, so hopefully it hasn't gone up in price too much in 3 years. We currently just have farm fencing with chicken wire half way up. I just recieved the quote for our front fence and it is a tad under $14,000! though I feel better now reading your post. Its timber post and rail fence, also dog proof. What are you using for your mesh? I am estimating our house yard will be around $3k by the time I buy mesh, gates, posts and rails. We're hoping to do a large portion ourselves though
  20. That's a great fence Espinay. I think when you start researching fencing, building them and the associated costs, you really start to appreciate the humble fence  Yours is very similar to what we are thinking Espinay so I think we might be on a winner. We're going to initially do the house yard with the steel pickets but once we are absolutely sure of where we want fencing we will probably gets post and rail put in and then the board across the bottom sounds like a good idea also. The mesh we are using doesn't need the straining wire across the middle, but I might try work out cost of the stock fence vs chicken mesh
  21. Thanks Mixedpupp. That sounds kind of similar to what we are thinking. Jules I like that set up and it is what I eventually want. Post and a top rail. How high is yours and does it keep your dogs in? Newsfie - we have thought about electric at the top and possibly one at the bottom as we will taking on a mini pony who will sometimes use the yard also. I just keep thinking that the rspca here will have a go at you? Does anyone know if they are still going people for having electric fencing in house yards? Perrin I love love love your fence, but because we only have 5 acres, it would take away our view if we did something like that. I want to gaze at Bundy all day  If my house was raised like yours it would be a perfect idea I think the cyclone fencing is really exxy? The black one looks really nice though doesn't it. Bigbear and stansmum - we're staying on the Coast. Actually only moving about 5 minutes from where we are now The steel fencing we are leaning to is the Stocksafe from Waratah. I just need to try and get a price on it to compare it to Stiff Stay.... The local CRT tried to sell me rolls of hinge joint as it is apparentlt cheaper but I have been told this is a big no no around horses? The property has all internal paddock fencing but I will probably want to use some of the laneways between the paddocks and boundaries during summer so what ever I use does need to be horse safe Thanks everyone on the congrats. We're ecstatic but I am of course worrying about the dogs and cats The property has a huge shed which has a living area built into the back of it where the owners lived whilst they built the main house. I am thinking of converting that somewhere that the dogs can be when we are out, and also a home office as I work from home. They're used to being inside when we are not home so it should work. For the cats, the house has a wrap around balcony and I am going to enclose one section with cat mesh so that they can also get outside. The house is a lot lot smaller than the one we are in now so giving them some extra space outside is a bit of a priority. The catnets site seems to have good instructions on cat mesh....
  22. We've just bought 5 acres, yay! It has fantastic fencing for the horses but unfortunately no house yard around the house and I'm trying to work out the best way to go. Just wondering if anyone could share pics of their house yards. I'm finding it hard to visualize all the different options and weigh them up against the costs. I'd like to do the entire property in something like Stiff Stay or Stocksafe T . Short term we are thinking of doing the house yard in the Stocksafe with steel posts until we settle in and work out where we really want to put the fencing. The dogs would only be out there whilst we are at home and when we go out they can go into the office which is a big area inside the shed. We could also possibly build dog runs, but my guys are so used to being indoors they would be horrified at being in a run  Also what height do you have on your house yard? I want to keep the dogs contained, but I don't want it to feel like a gaol!
