I'd support her rehoming the dogs as well .... You coud try pieces of vet bedding over the top. If you need some give me a shout because I have heaps and heaps from when my ridgy broke her leg and could not walk I could send you some if you like I often wonder whether that drug contributed to Tina having brittle bones. I thought I had read somewhere that it *might* cause calcium issues. It would certainly explain how both back legs shattered like they did :cry:

One of my dogs has a weird issue in spring / summer where he gets really upset about being placed outside. We;re not sure what started it as it only started last year when he was about 7 years of age. It is definetely seasonal though and related to warmer weather. After trying lots of behavioural and medical stuff we ended up putting him on clomicalm last summer as we were quite fearful that he would end up hurting (or killing) himself due to his behaviour when outside. He was weaned off the clomicalm in autumn when the weather changed and all winter we have had no issues with him. A few weeks back we noticed that he was starting to show signs of stress on the few hot days we had so we have got him back on meds. The vet has recommended Reconcile this time as the long terms affects are apparently not as bad as clomicalm. We did notice some changes in his behaviour. He was shaking a lot and had lost his appetite. He also started to show a real interest in our cats for the first time in his life! On the vets advice we are now treating him with a tablet every other day and the side effects seem to have disappeared. I have to say that so far neither the clomicalm or reconcile have completely stopped the behaviour - they have just lessened the severity of his reactions. I won;t be keeping him on reconcile over winter. If the vet agrees he will come off it and then go back on if he needs it next summer. But with storm behaviour I guess you would definitely need to stay on it as it is not a defined season like with us. Have you tried a thunder shirt as well?

My guys have been off the BH for a few weeks now and the excessive water drinking has ceased. Out of 3 of my dogs - 2 had the issue, the dogue more than the northern breed. Dyzney - I am not comfortable having my dogs drinking excessive amounts of water after eating dry food. As for your suggestion that it was an inconvenience to us as owners, well that is rubbish. We have a very large bowl inside our house (where they spend most of their time), our dogue was almost emptying the bowl in one night which was extreme compared to his normal drinking habits. By removing the food we were able to test if it was the issue. In our case the food was identified as the cause as his water consumption resumed to what I consider a normal amount for the 6 years he has lived with us. The same scenario without northern breed who has lived with us for 7 years. I know my dogs and the change was not one I was prepared to live with

Wait for Target, Big W etc to have their kids sales and then grab a cot mattress and a fitted sheet to go over it. We also throw an old blanket (or sometimes Coles has really good fleecy one on sale) on top If you have a friend or family member who can sew then you can get a cover made for it. But a good thick cot mattress on sale will cost you about $50 - $60 compared to dog beds over $120+

I'm not sure why I would do that? Does it have a benefit? Personally I think it would be better to switch them to a food that doesn't cause the reaction. My dogue ended up vomiting the other night because of the amount of water he drank after his meal. I've taken them off the BH as a test and they are back to drinking normally again. Bummer though as the price point is very good and the service I had was fantastic.

I'm on my second 20kg bag but unfortunately for us it is not working out My dogs are drinking stupid amounts of water after they eat their meal and it can only be contributed to the change in diet to BH. I really wanted to love the food but for us it is not working out unfortunately

What is the point of this post exactly? To try and freak me out? Rover is going to China, I don't have a choice as he is not my dog! Saying things like hes going to die or get eaten are just horrible. They do NOT eat dogs in Shanghai, I cannot say anything for some of the rural villages, but it is not common practice to eat dogs in China. There are a lot of pet dogs in Shanghai, parents have been there about 3 months and seen many dogs. Its becoming more popular as time goes by. Mum is going to be joining a upcoming pets as therapy group that has started there. And Yes that's correct regarding the quarantine, 6 months in a approved country before then coming back here for further quarantine. But like I said, they won't be bring him back as they are not returning. I'm travelling with him. Thanks for the link! Will add it to the information I have sent across already. The police were taking dogs from people who were walking them and killing them? Or was that all a beat up?

I wonder what clinic this Michael is at. Kanwal is right near us but we didn't like the vet that used to be there. He was the emergency vet the weekend my ridgy girl broke her other back leg and he told me that I was over reacting and that even if I brought her in there was nothing he would do as he had no vet nurses working If anyone knows the clinic can they let me know. I won;t use the other vet near there either after a series of bad experiences. Which was a shame as we absolutely loved the vets that used to run it

It's not one of there's, I have one and it's not the same. I don't know his current stock but years ago he had different leads available. That looks like one Steve had years and years ago. Might be worth asking him if it was? The leather looks exactly like his leads

Thanks Dan. We are hoping that maybe he is slightly improving.... He had a really bad night on Thursday night and woke up screaming in pain. But on Friday he really settled down and actually curled himself up into a ball to sleep and he has been doing that since friday. He has yelped a few times but he seems a lot better in himself and more willing to move around and do things like curl up or sleep under a blanket. We've got him on strict crate rest (which he hates) but hopefully it is helping. We'll be back at the vet again early next week to see what they think

Thanks SoL - how did they diagnose the ligament issue? We've had xrays and can't see any fractures and they xrayed pretty much his entire body!

I'm having an issue with my little foxie x, Pepe. About a week - 10 days ago he started yelping out in pain for no reason. He could be lying asleep and then he would yelp and fly off his bed. It started to get bad and he would do it in middle of night so we got an initial vet opinion who said to just let him rest and he would be fine. It kept progressing so we decided to get a second opinion on Saturday. They gave us carprofen and said to see if that helped and if not he would need some further tests. By Monday night he was still in pain so we went back Tuesday. On Tuesday he had xrays and whilst under they pulled 3 teeth. The xrays didn't really show anything significant other than a slight narrowing in between two verterbrae in the spine. They put a morphine patch on him, plus we still had carprofen and valium was also added to the mix. He's still not right and still not settling at all. Pepe is the type of dog who absolutely loves his blankets and burrowing under them and at the moment he cannot tolerate a blanket or jacket being put on him. Normally he would bury himself in his blankies but he doesn't even seem to be able to get himself comfortable on a bed. Vet rang to check on him just before and if he is still not settled by tomorrow then back in for more tests, possibly blood tests and a change in pain meds. There is the possibility of him needing an MRI Has anyone had anything similar happen? Normally I kind of have an idea of what is going on with the dogs but this has me completely stumped. If you flex his neck or touch his spine he shows no reaction to pain at all, yet all his symptoms make you think it is spinal. He can be asleep and then will just jump up yelping??? I swear in the last 5 days he has not slept more than 30 minutes at a time, and yet he is normally my little slug who is always asleep. The only other thing we discovered was that he has a Grade 3 heart murmur and so he is on meds for that. The vet doesn't seem to think that would be contributing to this issue. At a minimum I would have expected all the drugs he is on to have settled him and allowed him to get some sleep but that's not happening at all.... Oh and where does one get an MRI and any idea on ball park cost?

Really? I thought that Council had ample notice of issues with the dogs. What a same the rangers diaries got stolen from his car........ What I found more interesting was that they did not sue the owner of the dogs. Personally I think that there will be a lot more law suits in relation to dog attacks.

My take is that they didn't plead a breach of statutory duty but rather negligence. Only half way through judgement. That poor little kid edit - I see what you are saying now. That the enclosures would not have been a requirement of the act at the time of or prior to the incident? What happened wit dangerous dog declarations prior to then?

I wouldn't mind reading that judgement.
