  1. Oh that's a fantastic tip about the two tugs Lisa! Definitely would make it more exciting too! Rear end awareness stuff is so important for Del because not as much now, but in her younger days she had a tendency to just do crazy stuff and I think it really helped her not to kill herself. Also she treads on your feet less.
  2. ahh thanks for the feedback Huski! Yeah I think part of why she runs away is because to get her to tug I had to use treats in the tug and so she once she has the tug she tries to get the treat out, does that make sense? That tug I'm sure still actually has bits of treat floating around in it. So hopefully if I can keep making the game more fun, and then transition to a different tug toy (that has no association with having treats in it) so she will notice that I am actually on the end of the tug? I can really see what you mean though because when I play with her with no toy at all she is more interactive and gives me hip-buts and play bows etc. I hear you about the no commands, I was more just trying to build some anticipation for her, But I will find another way to build some anticipation :) thanks again for the tips :)
  3. hahaha! That's adorable Boronia! Is that really your chook with a superman outfit!? If so I am super impressed
  4. I agree too. I am also highly skeptical about the fads and fashions we see around feeding your dog, many of which seem to follow the 'super food' fads for humans. I am surprised feeding dogs Kale hasn't taken off actually.
  5. Wow great enthusiasm Kavik! Thanks Huski, I'll see if I can get a vid tomorrow then! :)
  6. Yeah I drag the tug along the ground away from her, Definitely no shoving it in her face. Having said that though, does team k9 pro have a handy video about getting your dog into tugging? :)
  7. Haha, so cute! Do you have a command for her to bring things to you in the house TSD (assistance dog style)? lure coursing as a suggestion........ Ahh I would love to do some lure coursing biker girl, I completely agree with you that it sounds right up her alley! But not available where I live unfortunately. Sometimes I dream about starting up my own lure coursing facility Better Late, I completely understand where you are coming from with the rabbit idea. I have thought of that myself. I have never taken a dog hunting and so I don't know whether hunting feral rabbits is really unethical, I have doubts about her ability to catch one to be honest, but I know she would enjoy the chase. As it is even though we live in regional NSW I don't know of anyone's farm I could take her to do this.
  8. I am interested to hear how people satisfy their dog's natural prey-related instincts. On a personal level, my dog Del has strong hunting instincts. I try to give them an outlet (short of actually letting here hunt obviously) through playing with tug toys, soft toys, chasing etc, and she does enjoy this but I feel like it is satisfying her desire to play rather than her strong desire to track and take down a quarry. So I would be more than happy to hear others' thoughts on this if there are any, as ell as what you do with your own dogs :)
  9. That is a really sad story. Poor velvel I felt terrible for him when she said that was the last nice thing they did for him. I have seen this before among people who get a dog as a practice baby. Get a dog because you want a dog; have a baby if you want a baby (or babysit for others until circumstances are right ofcourse.)
  10. Haha! Your napalm voice sounds awesome! I wish I had that as my super power! What is he typically doing that is naughty? You could do time-outs in the bathroom (10 seconds or so) where you with no eye contact or words just matter of fact escort him to the bathroom. For Del, if she doesn't listen, I tend to just take her by the collar (not in an angry way) and get her to do what I want. But I have also conditioned her to be happy about having her collar grabbed. have you taught him 'leave it'? That could help depending on your problem. Eta: oh I see, pillow ruining! I would use your 'uhuh' and if he ignores take him by the collar and into time-out :)
  11. maybe check with the vet, as ours will hire them out to you for just a few dollars a day (making them much cheaper than buying one and you can take the dog in to get the correct size). Poor Danny dog, I hope he feels better soon.
  12. And what a lovely gang you have Kirty!
  13. I didn't realise SM. Sorry, I know that's not why you started the thread.
  14. naw look at that face! Happy Birthday Odie!
  15. Yes are there a lot of prickles around your neighbourhood?
  16. I have the same problem FF. I'm no help to you though as I can't solve it. Like you I only created a Yahoo account to join Flickr and it got hacked. I got a call from my bank saying that it had been hacked because they had emailed them asking for money! That was a few years ago, but I think my account must still be active somehow as I still get emails to my normal account telling me when my contacts on Flickr have posted new photos. But I can't access my account at all. I'm really not sure whether I should just attempt to make a new account or not.
  17. Thanks Raineth - Yeah he seems to love it. I think sibes are very natural athletes, I know Ronin's sister and mum are water babies but I have heard of others being water-phobic :) Ahh it's a family trait then :) I have had Del for 5 years and only managed to get her actually in deep enough to float about 6 weeks ago(and only because I was armed with clicker and treats)! I will show her Ronin's photos for inspiration.
  18. Medusa is the one with patches and Pistachio is the colour of a Pistachio shell (sort of) :) They have really distinct personalities. Medusa is really outgoing and active. Every time you go near the cage she comes out to interact with you. But she is a bit of a bully to Pistachio who is more mild and enjoys being picked up for cuddles. If we don't give Medusa enough to do she picks out the fur on Pistachio's neck! Yes Medusa loves the bucket too! It does make for cute photos :D
  19. He's looking very confident in the water Do Sibes normally like the water?
  20. Ok, they are not dogs, but they are cute!
  21. That's so "tailsist". I'm not sure I would call it love, but what ever it is, it's wonderful. Nova has things he does for/with me that he doesn't do with other people. He is friendly with everyone, but if there are multiple people in the house (and he's already said his hellos and calmed down), he will place himself next to me. He doesn't really listen to other people if they give him commands, but I'm not sure if that's his affection for me or just that I'm the one who trains/feeds him. When I had housemates they informed me that when I leave the house he will every now and then look out the front door or window, will sleep next to the door. Even though he grew up with my housemate too, he never displayed any "missing" behaviours when she would go away, there has been zero behaviour differences in him since she moved out too. Tailsist  I'm not a tailsist, but dogs with little bobtails just can't express their love in bruises the same way tailed dogs can. Just sayin. I can't say I miss the bruises I do miss the thumping of a tail on the carpet though. Is that doggy love or just being a labrador? Tail starts thumping if I even glanced in his general direction Yeah! I love the thumping tail on the carpet! That is definitely love because Digby used to do it too! You just look at them and thump, thump, thump :)
