  1. Don't know about being a Greyhound dry food but there was, and still is, Vet's All Natural, which had to be soaked and added to meat. I am currently using Phud's which is similar but no need to soak all day. My dog's love it.
  2. In the video I saw it had a lot of difficulty walking. Op was over Easter so only a few weeks.
  3. It's no different to a kelpie turning on sheep. Dogs are dogs and we don't always know what they are thinking. Or how well they have been trained. Or if the owner rushed to conclusions.
  4. Most vets I have known over the past 40 years have been reluctant to straight out say " put to sleep". They can get sued for that, by owners who decide after the event that they were talked into it etc. Vets can't win. Opal is possibly having expensive surgery in the nearish future. I have a figure in mind that is my limit. I also know how hard it is to say stop after you start down that path.
  5. Thanks Powerlegs, will be sure to update when I have one. We have started Gapapentin a couple of months ago. Opal is also on Meloxicam and has been on that full time for the past 12 months. She is only 5 1/2 years old which is why I would like to find a better long term solution for her.
  6. I haven't read the article yet but American Greyhounds are notorious for hook worm resistance in Greyhound circles.
  7. have yet to see the vet who would end up doing whatever is decided on. I am just trying to educate myself before seeing him.
  8. What it will do to her long term.
  9. Reality is the retired racing greyhounds are becoming thin on the ground in America. Many states have banned gambling on Greyhound races so they don't have them. Less races means less dogs available for adoption. People wanting a greyhound are learning what it's like to get most purebred dogs. Go on a waiting list. Not sure if price has gone up. There are a couple of places breeding race bred greys for pets, don't know what they charge though.
  10. There is an Aussie rescue sending Greyhounds across to America currently for adoption purposes. The most recent dogs were in the last couple of weeks.
  11. I sold two greyhound pups to Hawaii years ago as they didn't have rabies and we don't have rabies. It was very hard for them to import from mainland America.
  12. Opal had xrays today and she has severe arthritis in her bad hip that she dislocated 5 years ago. She has 5 -6 years of life left one would think. I am not keen on just giving her more and more pain medication. My vet is leaning to FHO and has sent off a report to another vet who would be the one doing any actual surgery. Hip Denervation was also mentioned which I haven't heard of before. A quick google has shown me this could be quite good for Opal. Much less invasive but would need to be repeated at maybe 2 year intervals. Anyone have any experience with this? Something has to be done soon for my poor girl.
  13. watched it yesterday. In a specialist vets over Easter with spinal surgery. What did they expect?
  14. I'd be finding a vet that can get her in quicker. I wouldn't be self treating an eye.
  15. No reason the pup can't spend time outside. I would guess the owner has got older and it's more work then she remembers. So time outside, some crate training, a puppy training class.
  16. I was surprised with the first muster dogs that kelpies were being used on cattle in the outback and the one used on sheep failed. I was expecting cattledogs on cattle. My only experience with kelpies ( 2nd hand ) was them being used on sheep.
  17. Cragieburn _ Micheal Bell has an excellent reputation. Monash Vets and (Sandown Vets ( have 2 sides to their business ) Greyhounds and Others.) I've used Monash and Sandown in the past.
  18. After only a month, as a breeder, I would have refunded the money, less costs of transport, on the return of all signed papers.
  19. You can help by wiping the pup after each wee you see. I think Labs usually come into season for the first time around 8 months of age. You are half way there. You could see how she goes without the antibiotics and try the Cranberry and ACV. Put the ACV in her drinking water. Ask your vet about using a powder to help keep her dry. I use Medipulv powder on lots of things but I'd check with the vet before putting it on the vulva.
  20. could you please clarify the age of the dog? You said puppy, which to me is quite young, then 10 months old.
  21. NSW is a different kettle of fish to the other states
  22. I had one with this. He took about 3 weeks to fully recover and no never had it again.
