  1. Yes to registration with the council and DogsQld which is a part of the ANKC. Not all breeders have contracts, it's not a strike against them but ask now so there are no surprises at pick up time. Microchip papers may not be back by pickup but they should be signed and sent on asap. ETA, breeder registers with DogsQld. Again papers may not be back at pickup. There should be copies of DNA tests available for you to have a copy of. Ask for a feeding guide as to what puppy has been fed. Congratulations and welcome to the dog world
  2. you wouldn't get any papers with them. If the bitch is too small for the standard then they really shouldn't breed her. But yes, I would consider the pups pure bred poodles. I don't think it's ethical. I think it's a money spinner. Please make sure the parents are fully health tested and you see the original results and get a copy to keep if you go ahead with this.
  3. I saw the picture. The tail was carried high, gay tail, and the kink was towards the tip of the tail. I had worse on a greyhound pup I bred. And I've seen much worse. Kink would have been there from birth.
  4. Having had several intact females I've never had one be incontinent during a season. I have to wonder, if due to her very poor start in life, if their is some anatomical issues going on now that she is in season. I think this is a good time for another vet exam. Thankyou for helping this poor little girl.
  5. Can see the kink, very common thing in all dogs. And yes doesn't carry the tail correctly for the breed, which also happens a lot. Back in the day it was called gay tail but I don't think you can say that anymore.
  6. Kinked/curly tails can pop up at any time.
  7. Anything is possible in any living thing. How old is she and what age was she desexed? I don't know what a pig jaw is but it sounds like she's on limited for a reason. Everything you have said can occur in any dog and any breed. It comes under the sh!t happens catergory. I've owned a couple. I don't see why you should get any sort of refund, depending on what was discussed between you and the breeder and what was in the contract. Costs the same to rear a limited pup as main registered pup. It is entirely possible to get throwbacks. You could get a DNA test done through Orivet, this would at least settle your mind as to her purity.
  8. @Pinkett86you can certainly give him a raw egg 3 or 4 times a week. I've never given eggs daily but I don't see why you can't.
  9. Personally I have never believed you must pay over $100 for a small bag of food. Nothing wrong with supermarket dry food like Supercoat. Add in some raw chicken necks, eggs, sardines, safe table scraps etc and you can feed your dog like a king for half the price.
  10. Pretty sure most ethical breeders are keeping a close on that disease. I believe an MRI can help pick it up. Ask them about any health tests they have done, howlong their dogs lived to and what they died from. Hip and elbow dysplasia and Addisons fall under the sh!t happens umbrella. Dogs for generations can have clear hips and elbows and boom, a bad one pops up. I don't know if the eye problem could have been picked up with genetic testing. I've had a couple of real lemons in my life. I'm still in dogs.
  11. when a vaccine was found for it. It is almost unknown thanks to the vaccine. I've been in dogs for over 40 years and have never even heard of a dog getting distemper. There will always be unvaccinated dogs and plenty of them but it's parvo more likely to get them then distemper.
  12. Ask your breeder about vets. They can ask other breeders if they are not close to you. House training, hmm never had a pup in an apartment but make sure you have decided how you want to do this. Do you want to use a pet loo for the life of the dog or train it to hang on until you get home from work for example.
  13. I google their home address so I can see the fences etc. Ask for photo ID before handing puppy over. And otherwise what you have done. There are no guarantee's. Some people are very very good at telling others what they want to hear. Just have to trust your gut.
  14. Good luck @Yummyit's not easy to find something that works. My girl gets antibiotics when she has a bad flare up due to secondary bacterial infection. I know what you mean like the areas look so sore.
  15. Has the dog seen a vet? I've got an itchy dog and I use several strategies to manage her, including meds from the vet.
  16. I'd be getting a vet check first. Then, is it a full blown phantom where the bitch goes around collecting toys, or just the bitch coming into milk? Most breeders just carry life on as normal. Some cut back food and up exercise to decrease milk.
  17. From what I have read about Stumpy Tail Cattle Dogs and Manx cats, yes they can have problems ranging from no tail stub at all, incomplete spine, to not having an anus. My reading of the STCD is more about their early development and it's possible those problems have been ironed out. I know Manx cats have a different gait to tailed cats but next doors seems to have no problems.
  18. I asked some people that do have "skin in the game". Yes there is a NBT gene and they have to submit DNA for purity at time of registration.
  19. My attack???? My claim it's wrong??? I've read plenty about the NBT in Rotties over the years. Never seen a word about Dobes
  20. Bit rude don't you think? I said as far as I know. Please post a link to a verified source to back up your information.
  21. As far as I know Dobes don't have the natural bobtail gene so if the tail is shortened then docking is the obvious reason.
  22. Breeders can and do make money on a litter depending on the breed of course. I had 4 litters and made $3000 on one litter. Of course that came no where near covering the loss on the other 3 and I suppose you could say that $3000 was my wages for all 4 litters. Not much per hour that's for sure. I was speaking to someone the other day, bought a purebred lab for $600, from good lines?, bred her to the neighbours purebred lab, from good lines?, and in her own words sold the pups for $3000 each (microchipped and vaccinated) and made $24,000. Next litter she plans to sell the pups for $3,500. Oh and they know the Mum has "the no overeating gene" because she doesn't. Just ask for the records of the parents etc so you know actual testing has been done.
