  1. well as see it, we only have a newspaper report as to who said/did what. I still say nurofen should not have been prescribed, no matter what sort and what dose.
  2. I'm an associate member, I can't vote for one thing. I think you will find you will need to be a full member to compete. I am a full member of the VCA.
  3. sorry I meant to say in Victoria, other states and sometimes different councils in those states, have their own requirements.
  4. it can take 2 or 3 days for the mothering instinct to kick in and that won't happen while they are seperated. Unless there is a medical reason I'd be getting them back together asap. ETA I just saw the Mumma bit one, it does happen but if you are willing to put in some hard yards it may still be turned around.
  5. It is illegal to let any greyhound off lead in a public area, including green collared ones and including off lead dog parks
  6. naw, just making sure they are the only ones you can supply such a rare colour. Wouldn't want anyone else cashing in.
  7. Jelly please don't think I am having a go at you personally, I have not followed all of this thread but do know you have put in 100% for Roo and that is amazing. You are only going on what you have been told by the rescue group and obviously that information is incorrect. Greyhounds are my passion and would love them all to find homes but the right homes, you could have been put in a very dangerous situation not to mention other animals you could encounter on your walk. I do wish you all the best. Ditto
  8. I've had some doozy's contact me because they saw the ad on DOL
  9. A greenhound dog is a grey that has been approved through a GAP assessor and is then allowed to be muzzle free in public. The test is quite involved and not all will pass. My concern here is if you are walking Mia muzzle free without her being approved you are not only breaking the law but putting yourself, Roo and Mia in a potentially dangerous position. That is why I strongly suggested you foster through a reputable group such as GAP. In Victoria the only greyhounds allowed muzzle free are those that have been through GAP, no other organisation has that ability. GAP will assess greyhounds from other places, it entails at least a week stay with GAP. So Mia came from Kay's Greys? I am not surprised as I thought it very dodgy that GAP would allow a foster dog to go off with someone else other then the official carer. If you have been told Mia is a GAP greyhound and does not need a muzzle and she has never been near GAP, then all I can say is there is a reason I only recommend two groups in Vic and Kay's Grey's is not one of them.
  10. The green GAP collar? I wouldn't use a split lead either. If you are having trouble walking them then maybe a smaller dog would be better. I would think any dog with the right temperament would be good. What is happening with them tomorrow when you go back to work?
  11. He ate pretty well, soaked dry food, chicken necks, he was good. The gums harden up.
  12. That sounds a bit odd. Can you have a look at her teeth? Right up the back? I would suspect periodontal disease myself rather then a bad tooth. Look for red lines along the gum line around the teeth. Otherwise things seem to be looking up. Ah yes you're right or as Mita suggested maybe something digestive? Her breath should not be so bad that Jelly can smell it when not even near her mouth. My first greyhound had periodontal disease, his breath stunk out the house within weeks of any dental. Our solution in the end was the removal of all teeth. Fixed that problem very well. Also had a cat that, in the end, needed all his teeth removed. Was also a big success. Thanks Rebanne that's interesting. So is there no cure for it other than to remove all the teeth? I tried many things over 4 years but the only thing that really worked was the teeth removal.

  14. Just went and checked and the same thing happened to me

  16. Joe Bloggs uses the little syringe thingy which comes with the baby nurofen ..and measures out a dose ....and yes, it is a minute dose , for a very small animal ... how many people would have baby nurofen on hand? I only have tablets which arn't scored so very hard to break accurately. No way the vet should have advised giving nurofen. Someone who has a baby? possibly, but not everyone has a baby :D
  17. Not at all, discussions were focussed around temperament and understanding Roo's issues and Mia was offerred due to temperament fit. And it's true, she is exceptionally calm. Please don't worry, I won't allow Mia to be hurt. I understand they are easily hurt. I haven't seen Nekh for ages, since before I went away, I'm still practising the things she showed me. Maybe time for another trip down the highway! yes temperament is vital rather then the sex of the other dog. Of course ideal would be laid back, calm, cruisy male dog but still no guarantee it would work
  18. Is Nek still helping you and Roo? Maybe give her a call. I would be preapred to battle on if it was only growling, I consider growling a good help, Roo is voicing her disapproval, discomfort, uneasiness in a safe manner. Growling gives you time to intervene if there is enough time between the growl and the snap. If Roo goes growl, snap straight away then you have a much bigger problem. and it is very hard for people to help via the internet. We can't see what is actually happening.
  19. depends if Roo and the goldie were brought up together or were adults etc. You can't get much more laid back then a calm greyhound though. I'd be sending Mia home if there is anymore snapping, not fair to her at all. And even the most laid back dog can respond if pushed too far.
  20. Snapping is a huge problem, please don't leave them alone together. I'm sure you won't but I feel compelled to say it anyway. You have a mature bitch who has been an only dog for sometime and are asking her to accept another mature bitch in her house. What did you do when Roo snapped? I'd have made her get off. It's my couch and no dog has the right to say who can sit on it. I wouldn't have let Mia up on it though while Roo was off it. When I decided the dogs could get back up I would have asked Mia up first, then Roo. You can make this a game, ask one up, then the other, give a treat, get them off and rinse and repeat.
  21. we don't know and neither do you, nor do we really know what dosage was really said. For all anyone knows the cat owner was told to give the cat some nurofen and the 200mg tablet is the one most people would have.

  23. if you are in your room then you won't be able to see what the older dog is doing to the younger. And it doesn't have to be outright war. Maybe try crating one or the other when you are in your room for a few hours at a time. Or take them with you or give them turns with you.
  24. you can't have someone else's foster dog for the weekend. It is not their's to hand over.
