Hard to convey your tone but what do you mean EVEN pound animals? I was responding to post 22 where it was said it didn't really matter how a dog from the pound grew as most of them were mutt's and no one would know if they grew differently from early desexing. so I mean exactly what I said.

I can see their point very clearly. The vast majority of dogs sold are not, or should not be bred from. Most of them going through shelters and pounds are mutts, and an incorrect growth rate on them won't matter much (it's not like you know what they'll grow up to look like), and is in fact much less of a worry than the very high chance of them having a litter of more mutts. And any breeds in danger of ending up as breeding fodder in puppy farms.......poodles, maltese, pugs, shih-tzu, bichons etc, are probably best desexed before being sold unless the breeder is 110% certain of the puppies future. I can completely understand early desexing in these cases and it's a matter of weighing up the chances of the dog being bred from in the future (high), vs the chances of the dog having some spey-related growth or health issues later in life (low). I worked in a RSPCA shelter for 10 years and it was only in the last year or so that I worked there that early desexing came in. Before that they were given a voucher, for dogs (and cats) over 6 months the dog had to be desexed within one month, for pups ( and kittens) the voucher had 6 months on it. Compliance was at nearly 100%, there was the very odd one that went over the time but they were rare and there was maybe one or two that didn't in the ten years I worked there. And when I say didn't at all, I mean the voucher was not presented. Even pound animals deserve a chance to grow correctly.

proof please and to the original poster no your bitch does not need a litter to settle her down

the OP was given that particular breeders critera with an invite to call the breeder. Instead they came here ranting about how bad the breeder was which turned into a general free for all bash the breeder thread - again! All breeders will have different critera, there is no one size fits all. Some will sell to homes that others wouldn't touch with a barge pole. No good coming on here moaning and groaning that a breeder didn't reply to me sob sob. Move on to the next one. Just because they are on DOL does not mean they are the best or the most ethical. Plenty of breeders don't advertise on here. Look for breed clubs. Ring your state canine body. Keep asking and yes be prepared to sell your self.

I've always sold myself to breeders, going back over 30 years now. Always done my best to show them that I was worthy of one of their pups. Told them my plans, my aims, my dreams. I don't see why it should be different today.

one very determined dog!

Not my intention to do myself any favours. My intention to get some breeders to understand where the majority of buyers are coming from, but it seems that just wont happen. Once again, I will not be calling this breeder, because I do not wish to give away a non-refundable deposit on a pup I have not seen, and has not even been born, so can people stop telling me to call them. and it's been pointed out that that might be a way to weed out the undesirables but you will never know what might have actually happened if you had actually spoken to them. Some breeders, who are ethical, do ask for deposit's on unborn litters. It's not uncommon.

your email was replied to with an invite to ring. You chose not to ring. You do yourself no favours with this rant

My FB is mainly used for greyhound people to keep in touch. I love seeing all the oversea's pups growing up and what dog did well at what show. Greyt way to keep up with the breed.

I don't think she did all the right things, I think she dumped the puppy back onto the breeder without much thought, then when she found out it wasn't the pup making her sick she wanted it back. Or she decided she missed it after all and the Dr story was just that - a story. I would be thinking, as a breeder, that she was just looking for an excuse to return it, then changed her mind. I wouldn't give the pup back to her either, would be too worried it would happen again. And I very much doubt it would have taken her months to react to the pup health wise if she was going to react.

Three Years Ago Now Kuga, A Very Special Old Man
Rebanne replied to hortfurball's topic in Rainbow Bridge
so sorry to hear of Kuga's passing -
1. I think all showing should be fun but the dog should be a good speciman of the breed, that, if it wasn't neutered, could be shown entire. 2. Dog should be in peak condition. 3. In my breed that is pretty rare anyway but no it wouldn't bother me. It happens if you are showing an entire dog why should it be different for a neuter? I think neuter classes are great as long as the dog is up to show standard. Not everyone wants to deal with an entire dog so it's a way people can get involved, as long as the dog is suitable.
