  1. Archie certainly needs to learn alone time as there is no guarantee he will have Ray forever. I'd have Archie inside more at the moment. An outside pen is a good idea but he also needs to learn toilet training and that's a bit hard to teach if he is outside all day. Good advice above Though I do have to say I always have more then one dog and while they all enjoy being with each other, all very much enjoy alone time with me or even just hanging on their own. i.e 2 dogs inside, one out and visa versa.
  2. I've lost count of how many I have, so many uses around the house and garden. Would easily have 20 or 30 of them
  3. I wouldn't have a problem complying with any biosecurity requirements either.
  4. Little update on Opal. All cortisone has been ceased from 10 days ago, she is back to her normal weight and is totally enjoying her runs at the local slipping track. I am cautiously optimistic that Opal is fully recovered.
  5. The only thing I use regularly is heartworm preventative and even then I only dose every 6 weeks. And not with an all in one that does several different things. Straight heartworm preventative only. Had a heartworm positive dog next door to us years ago so it's in town.
  6. Poor bugger and from the look of his arm he is in for months and months of treatment.
  7. No I could never agree to leads off for Greyhounds in an open area.
  8. Only Greyhounds have routinely been required to wear a muzzle. Australia is just about the last country that has this law. Lots of people have worked very hard for many years to bring this about.
  9. a fleece coat will do and they dry out quick. I doubt you will be taking the dogs out in a downpour.
  10. At 3 months I think some white will always be there What did you call her?
  11. Any GSD can have a touch of white on it so I wouldn't be worried but really if the pup didn't come with pedigree papers from the ANKC then there is no proof that your pup is 100% pure. How old is she?
  12. ok so he would be getting some calcium from the milk. When you mix the eggs into the puree chuck the shells in as well. Skin scraping is good, seems as the vet says allergy then the scraping is clear of mites etc. it is sounding like a contact allergy. If the dog, and your, lives are being made a misery by this then I would be back to the vet asking about cortisone. ETA after reading @sheena's pumpkin idea it wouldn't hurt to try that. Either at the same time as the cortisone or on it's own. Only you ( and maybe your vet ) can decide that. I'm going to give it a go with my itchy dog who reacts to the grass and yes sometimes has cortisone for bad flare ups.
  13. Where's the calcium in the diet? meat and veg is not a balanced diet. It is possible he is allergic to something in his diet or environment. Has the vet done a skin scraping? A course of antibiotics? Is it the actual skin or just the fur? I wouldn't be rubbing coconut oil on his feet, that would just encourage him to lick the area, at least it would my dogs. Ever tried tinea powder? I would be going back to the vet, asking for cortisone to nip the itching in the bud and some antibiotics for any secondary infection and keeping the feet as dry as possible.
  14. Yes, no need to get up hourly overnight. But I would take her out at least twice at such a young age. If need be set an alarm so you get her out there before she stirs and pee's. But usually it doesn't take long to be only once a night then sleeping the night through. Pups are much easier then children! As Tassie says above make sure pup is wormed, vaccinated and microchipped. And we like to see photo's
  15. I have a large breed so might be different but if both testicles aren't down by 12 weeks then that's it as far as I'm concerned. Do you know how to check for yourself? Sometimes they go up and down, stress can make them go up.
  16. Remove colour from the equation. Does the breeder health test, are the pups raised well, do the adults all have great temperaments? Have you seen the health test results? If so and you are happy then go ahead. You are aware there is potential to have a problem which is more then most puppy buyers are. But you could get a problem with any breed, any dog, any colour. Living creatures do tend to throw curve balls at us humans time and time again. Nothing is perfect.
  17. I wonder if she has some spay incontinence. Did the vet mention that possibility? Also sometimes accidents do happen and she is only young. you could try tightening up things and go back to basics with the house training. Has the weather changed? My girls are bad in cold/rainy weather and I have to be a bit more vigilant in getting them to pee outside. My boys are fine.
  18. can't help with info but sending best wishes for a full recovery
  19. go with what the vet suggested to start with, keep doing your research and when you have a better idea of things you will be able to make changes if you wish. I'm insulin dependant and would struggle if one of my dogs became diabetic.
