Okay so perhaps LM may have gone overboard with her statements but I can honestly understand why, considering she mentioned she lost a family member because a dog was loose in the back of the car. My cousin died because a speeding drunk driver wiped her off the road. Am I paranoid about drink driving and speeding? Absolutely! I lose my nut at people who speed etc; most of them think I'm loony unfortunately.

I will be there watching at both. I'll also have my SLR with me so if anyone in particular wants photos of their dogs, let me know, happy to do it for free.

Whats The Best Gossip You Heard About Yourself Or Your Dogs?
mr.mister replied to MonElite's topic in General Dog Discussion
Apparently in highschool, I was a lesbian. Every second kid used to come up and ask me. wth!?? Even if it had been true, I don't understand why it was such a huge deal. This was only about six or so years ago too. -
Our second dog, I didn't bond with. We tried for a few months to see if it could be rectified but nope, and it was creating a lot of tension in the household. We rehomed him and he just 'clicked' with his new owner. He hangs off her every word and action and it is lovely to see.

I agree I absolutely love it when I come across an obviously well bred purebred dog, as I'm finding it rarer and rarer to do so these days. If they're in talking distance I always go up and ask if I can pat them, and they're normally quite surprised to find I know what breed it is. Nothing more stunning than a well bred purebred, in all its glory. ETA: What surprises me most Raz is that this thread, albeit about purebreds, is all about making our breeds more accessible to the public and encouraging them to be interested. Is that not the opposite of being 'elitist'?

Hi! Here's a link to the show schedule from the CCCQ, Dogs Queensland. Click on conformation show dates. http://www.cccq.org.au/Show/Trial-Dates.aspx I think there are a decent amount of shows that go on at Durack but don't know that area super well so will leave other DOLers to fill you in further. I guess for some tips, probably don't go up to an exhibitor and start chatting just as they are about to go in the ring, as they will be quite busy. Wait until they've come out of the ring and ask if they'd have some time for a chat. Go, have a look, have fun, and see what appeals. People love talking about their breed so I am sure you will learn many new things.

Sending Your Bitch To A Stud Equals Prostitution!
mr.mister replied to Paptacular!'s topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree. I think its very difficult for people who aren't dog - or animal savvy, for that matter, to not inject human emotions and conditions into the way they look at animals. You need to be able to think like a dog. -
When a trainer minded our old BC for two weeks, when we came to pick him up, he'd heard and recognised the sound of our car engine and was attempting to force the garage door open. But really, if you consider the difference in timespan for dogs and humans, 3 months is a hell of a long time for a dog. I would say it was just readjusting to its surroundings.

How Do You Get A Prefix In Nsw
mr.mister replied to redblazebordeaux's topic in General Dog Discussion
http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showforum=7 It's on the main DOL forum webpage if you look hard enough.. -
Ignore those who have nothing useful to say.. there are plenty of others here with lots of knowledge, willing to share it. The idea others suggested of waiting to get a dog until you settle in NZ is a good one, but of course you can still research! As for what breed, I am not entirely sure. Another option could be a well-matched dog from a rescue?

 That is one story!! I sure don't envy you! Funnily enough, I've got a similar disgusting story involving my childhood pet poodle - maybe it's a poodle thing, giving us a false sense of security with their fluffy cuteness? I was about eight. My mum was taking myself and the poodle to a friend's place for dinner, and she had, rather unwisely, fed the poodle a bunch of raw chicken bits only perhaps twenty minutes before getting in the car. Poodle was still a pup, and not fully accustomed to the car, and for some odd reason mum liked to keep the pup in her handbag on the passenger side floor. Anyway, pup suddenly got very fidgety as we were driving and crawled up onto my lap. I though, aw, how cute, and cooed and fussed over her as she crawled all over me. Next minute, she stuck her head down the back of my shirt and vomited all the contents of her stomach (about three semi-digested, raw chicken pieces) all down my back. I remember pandemonium as I started screaming and flailing and mum had to pull over and rescue me.

Anyone know how long it will be going for? Due to some issues earlier on today I wasn't able to go this morning but can now.. it's about an hour's train ride from here. What do you think- worth it or will I miss out on most?

I think I have something in my eye. That was so sweet, particularly at the end.

If it was just a text message conversation how would they know MonElite was female?

What's the big deal about being prepared just in case? I see no harm in being more energy efficient and using the clothes line instead of the dryer, and walking to work instead of driving. :D I'm not sure what to believe anymore these days, but better safe than sorry as far as I'm concerned.

There Is A Frenchie On Armageddon!
mr.mister replied to Bullbreedlover's topic in General Dog Discussion
That was I Am Legend, where the world had been infected by a rabies-like virus. Will Smith and his dog (named Sam short for Samantha) had been attacked be zombies and although Will was immune to the disease Sam was not, despite giving her a vaccine, so as she became rabid he had no choice but to suffocate her. Brilliant movie actually, one of my faves, a remake of 'The Last Man on Earth' which was a movie based on the novel 'I Am Legend: The Last Man on Earth.' Sorry, thread hijack over. -
A bit of a leap here but... Mountain Cur?

As far as I am aware Basenji's aren't for the faint hearted. I think they're pretty full on to train. The one I met was rescued by a middle aged couple as the original owners didn't know jack about Basenjis and let the dog roam and kill all the native wildlife. Anyway, they've worked very hard on him and after years of work he has become a decent family member, but can never be let off leash because first thing he sees, he will chase and kill. He also doesn't get along with other dogs and still only obeys commands when he's in the mood to. He is however the only Basenji I have ever met so I have no idea if he is different from the norm or what. From my knowledge don't longer coated dogs only have a couple of significant coat drops a year and are otherwise good, whereas short coated breeds tend to just shed 24/7? If the family doesn't mind shedding though as opposed to brushing then perhaps that would be okay?

Oh no Fingers crossed that your babies pull through, from other's experiences it sounds hopeful. Sending you lots of miracle vibes.

where was the dog rescued from? I would be calling them and asking why it was provided still entire. As for the dog being mentally slow, seems like the family are before the dog. Legally, unless the dog is being denied medical attention, shelter, food or water they are doing nothing wrong. Morally ... well ... dont ever let me be on the phone with them they'll be deaf. Perhaps they got the dog from a pound as opposed to a rescue? I knew some people once who always desexed their pets and rescued, until one day they bought a male border entire from the town pound. They didn't bother desexing him because he 'caused no trouble' and then their neighbour asked them if they were interested in studding him.... ;) don't know if they ever did but I sure hope not. whatever the case, its absolutely disgusting. poor poor dog.
