  1. From my perspective as a purchaser/Shower when I buy a dog it is my dog no one elses, and I do not treat my animals as chattels they are also part of my family. I also would never go into partnership with anyone nor would I take a puppy on for free to show and be in joint or another persons name. Too many people are taken advantage of and their beloved show dog/pet is taken from them. I also feel that it is my choice when I desex my dogs not someone telling me I have too. It is my choice when showing to either continue or not, as I have the dog and would determine weather it is show quality as an adult. I would never buy a dog on a limited register, they only stop people from showing, it does not stop them from breeding as all breeders are quite aware. But in saying that when I do purchase a dog and pay top price and the breeder knows that I have every intention in showing that dog I expect a top quality dog not just a that'll do dog. I do not expect to recieve a dog with mental issues nor one with deformities I expect a well adjusted puppy that has that quality to make it in the ring. When I stop showing then I will consider a dog that is considered as a pet only. I also have a long list of DO NOT RECOMMEND breeders due to their greed and bad practices. I really think a lot of it is you need to be able to decipher between the good and bad and go from there. And just on the end of Steves comment, The general public and media have percieved dog shows as beauty contests way before now and many of us have thrown it in and if PDE didnt state that perception loudly enough - not sure what will The general public also believe that when the beauty contest is over the dog is then discarded, and more bred in the way to find that winning specimen. It is funny what people actually think about the world of pure bred dogs. Edit to add, Thanyou to the topic poster for placing this here where it can be answered instead of in the breeders threads where puppy buyers can not comment. And just so you all dont think I am one eyed on this subject I had a prefix, once.and I know it costs the same to breed a show dog or a pet so for me price is not the object.

  9. Hello, I have my old girl on previcox and it is working well,Metcam now comes in tablet form and doesnt seem to have as many side effects as the other. I now have to give Oliver one of them so am wondering which is the preferred drug for osteo animals, Kim also has mammary tumors that have been removed but are back. so anybody think that one is better than the other.
  10. Hello Ex boxer owner and fan here who actually used to trial a boxer whose name was BRANDWAG ZINGALONG , purchased in the 80's. His call name was Nelson and he was a very easy dog to train. He never got his CD because he was always minused points because of barking. He never barked he just continually whined MUMMMMMM MUMMMMMMM. I wrote letters to the CCC of QLD as well to no avail because he was making a noise it was classed as barking. He was fabulous in obedience and agility and he passed away after a lot of treatment for cancer at the age of 8 years. The Tassans who are judges had two well trained boxers at that time as well. They are very smart and regardless of what people with no experience of Boxers say they are not dumb or hard to train. Always remember they were also used as police dogs in England. SO good luck and I would love to hear how you go,.
  11. I would rather any dog got a good lifelong home and I hate pet shops but I still could not believe that, How are people ever supposed to think that animals are not disposable and they are a chatel/item when the rspca even do discounts. It is like oh hello we are a bit over supplied so have a discount. has to be a better way
  12. what a clever old soul I sure hope he got his toast and butter.
  13. Hello my GSD Kim is like that,it was thought a brain tumor then a spinal tumor and after fluid being taken from her brain and thousands of dollars we are none the wiser, she also takes fit like things and drags her toes on various occasions on different feet and you can always tell because of the different lengths of nail on each foot. She is on medication for pain, So if your friend finds out please let me know. I looked into a MRI but because I live in outback QLD it was going to cost a fortune to get there and I think I had to fly to Melbourne (this was a couple of years ago) and we decided that because of her age we would not put her through it and go day by day she is now heading to her 10th birthday and still here doing the same thing but on heavier drugs. I sometimes wonder if it is an afflication that has built up from over the years when she was toad poisoned numerous times in her younger day. But there is no test for that so here we are still going day by day.
  14. A paper I was reading today had wait for it 50% off all dogs and cats at the local RSPCA and then when reading the classifieds 50% off all puppies in one of their petshops. still shaking my head
  15. Do you ever sit here at the computer screen reading either a thread on here, or on lots of different places why people get animals then return overseas without them. I always wonder to myself why dont they take them, I realise a lot do but there is the other percentage that dont. Is it that they come here for whatever reason then get an animal for company then need to find somewhere for them when returning home. I suppose I will still be sitting here years from now wondering the exact same thing.
  16. Hey Sunny Instead of poking the pills down give them in a bit of mince.
  17. When you are really close to your animal you will know when the time is right to send him on his way, treasure the moments you have had with him and when the time comes just remember what you have done to keep him, you will have done your best. softly do they slip away whilst in loving arms they lay drifting off to sleep with barely a peep at the bridge he will lay and then in a dream on a special day appearing like a special guest you will know that day, you did what was best hugs to you
