  1. Mums jack russel had paralysis and hey eyes were acting abnormal.. but any changes in my two girls and we would be straight to the vets. Any nerological signs, seizing, wobbliness... Anything strange.
  2. Love this photo... Iphone one too! And love my rabbits
  3. Here's an update, Jess is home, with an elizabethian collar on or what ever it is called to stop her itching her eyes- good chance left eye will be removed due to ?ulceration near the cornea, but the right one should still be ok. Saw her over webcam today, poor thing looks like she's aged about 5 years- she's almost eight years and is doing pretty well. Being very sooky and mum is giving her lots of TLC Mum is missing Smegel, she spends a lot of time at home alone but thankfully Jess is pulling through strongly. Thanks for all your support and thoughts guys!!!
  4. On the other side as well, even if you are lucky enough to never see this guy again, what if some other person encounters the same situation... you want to protect yourselves and other people. Can't believe people act in this manner. Poor role model to his child
  5. Thanks for all your thoughts guys Jess is home with mum now, being very spoilt, needs lots of TLC. Fingers crossed she doesn't need to have any of her eyes removed, mum is bringing her down to SA for Christmas, can't wait. I loved Smegel, he was so friendly and slept with me every night I'd stay there in QLD on holiday. Very vocal cat too, huge cat but very very sweet. Will keep you updated
  6. Hey guys, Jess had her eyelids stitched to prevent any damage, and is standing and eating which is fantastic because shes a very finicky eater- Mum will be able to pick her up when she gets home Friday, which will be great. Fingers crossed she recovers well! Unfortunately our cat up there must have found the snake because they had to put him down... RIP Smegel, he was a gorgeous friendly cat, mum got him not long after they moved up there.
  7. She's taken a couple of steps this morning, just waiting for the vet to call and give us an update- she is a little battler, even though she's scared of thunderstorms fingers crossed, thank you for your kind words!!
  8. Just had our Jack Russel bitten in central QLD. on a drip with paralysis and eyes not working properly. keep an eye out guys
  9. Hello, Our family dog, who is about eight years old Jack Russel Terrier, unfortunately sustained a snake bite -unknown time and unsure of what snake- she lives in Queensland with my parents, and they are visiting at the moment. Recieved a call today saying that Jess (the JRT) is on a drip, is paralyzed, and eyes are not normal. Poor guy who is taking care of Jess is devastated. The vet thinks its been over 24 hrs since the bite and anti venom won't help. Just wondering if anyone had some words of advice, or their own stories about snake bites. Anyone have any idea of recovery time if there a chance? I would appreciate any words of wisdom, even if the outcome has been the worst. Thanks Leithy
  10. The bond people have with their pets is amazing. We had a little fox terrier pts, and my mother took her on her own when I told her I wanted to go. We were both devastated. I've worked in a vet clinic for work experience and found the experience horrible, but I think it would be much worse if you knew the animal or the person, especially ones you've been treating for a chronic illness. I shudder to think of the day I'd have to have my girls pass on. Kudos to vet nurses and vets, you guys are amazing.
  11. @Mim- Elle is soooooooooooo beautiful!!!!!!! People at the vet always ask what is Gypsy, not many have seen silver dapple in my country town. Theres a few sausage dogs around but none like her! My other half, my brother and his' friends always call her ugly dog...... Or fail, or old looking.... Look at this face!!
  12. gypsy, first decent photo no red eyes.... meggie in the grass!! cuddles!
  13. She is much better today back to her normal self back to happy and confident and running around in the rain Yeh these ferals have been found in our HOUSE. Didn't take anything but freaked my mother out. I think they are moving away soon so that will help... Grass seeds are nasty things, I'm glad I got to the vet before it got infected. I have to take my cat now because her ear has folded back at the tip and it's red sooooo back we go next week. Lukcily its not bothering her too much. I've missed the vet this morning so it will have to be Monday. Thanks guys
  14. Just got back from the vets- slightly raised temp and a nasty little grass seed in her ear the poor thing. She is going to have it removed under sedation this morning and I'll have her back before lunch. Relieved it was nothing major. I had her desexed at nine months of age, she had no pain in her belly this morning but didnt drink anything so i'm assuming its because her ear made her feel rotton. I hate going to the vets here tho... everytime I do, someone puts down their beautiful fur kid and it breaks my heart Poor man put down his elderly chi companion and he was devastated. Loves my fur kids.
  15. Neighbours are not much help unfortunately but I know the family accross the road are absolutely feral and have been found in our house before. I had a look over here last nite, no ticks, no sores or anything. I'm going to the vet this morning. I let her out this morning and she went and just laid down in the grass, first thing she does is go out for a drink. Thanks for the help guys. Appreciate it.
  16. I've come home to my 23 month old dachshund going from a happy, confident dog to a timid, tail between her legs, face and fur all ruffled up and not interested in anything, which is weird because shes normally at me for cuddles after work, bouncing around, tail in the air. My biggest fear is that someone has come in our yard, but id like to know if any other reasons for such drastic behaviour changes? She was fine when I put her out prior to work. Thanks guys, I'm really worried. If she's no better by Saturday morning it's off to the vet.

  23. I got my seven month old dachshund who lived with her six brothers for all her life, came home with me and started socialising her and she's been really good withe every dog we've met, she is very well behaved and trained to. Gypsy i got her at nine weeks and she is well socialised as well. Both aren't bothered by dogs when walking which is great, they both loved my BF's old shephard until she passed, they have a new dog now which is dog aggressive and we are working on that. I loooove kelpiesm they have so much energy! Cupcake could be their middle name :D
