  1. Pepi I lost a 6 year old at the vets after a car accident, I was with him but he was so spaced out from shock and pain he didn't even realise. All it did was traumatise me. I am sure that the vet and vet nurses would have been comforting Pepi.I am so sorry for your loss.
  2. Over the easer weekend my 86 year old nonno is staying with us. He has a pacemaker and is the only person that my dogs go so mental over! Even if he leaves the room for a minute and go back they will go mad barking at him when he walks in. We have heard that pacemakers have a high frequency noise that can set dogs off, is this true? Also because the dogs are going mad at him he likes to yell and lunge at them, needless to say that probably doesn't help, Toby once expressed his anal glands when my nonno yelled at him!
  3. Be careful that these don't become habits. Better to train your dog the correct way from the start than to allow them to develop bad habits which you will have great difficulty getting rid of. Both my breeder and a professional Chesapeake handler in the USA told me to just teach him stand (like obidience) and wait till he is a bit older to teach him a stack because Chessies can be so hard headed about being lured into anything, they have to work it out for themselves or they will rebel. I have started the basics of hand stacking at home where it dosen't matter if he moved his feet back or sits, I just won't reward that behaviour. Also congratulation on Minor in Show!!!!
  4. Ok thats good to know. Will you be demonstarting any of the advanced or exellent exercises?
  5. Sounds good. I think I will bring Lincoln because he is more focused and easier to manage in big crowds. But because (if I read right) the level up from novice has jumps I will take things nice and slowly with Lincoln.
  6. I wouldnt do it before 24 months with such a big dog but thats just my opinion The norm for Chessies is 2 and a half, especially for agility.
  7. The other dog was an American Cocker. I will be surprised to pick up any classes in group under local judges with Lincoln because he is a 'pioneer'.
  8. Well I had Lincoln at the Open Show and there was only two baby puppies and he didn't get Babay in Group. Wish I had gone to agility instead, a NQ is way more satisfying.
  9. This morning I was at an Open Show and judging of gundogs took less then an hour. There were only two baby puppies but Lincoln lost out to an American Cocker that has also picked up a much bigger baby in group. I have not trained a stack yet but I have been saying from the start that when he reaches 5 months I will start "proper" training, so thats two weeks. In the meantime I feel like kind of an idiot free stacking messiliy but if I try move his feet in the ring he just sits down and it becomes a far less pleasant expirence.
  10. When I get my iPhone on Wednesday I am downloading the Rally-O App so I can practice before the seminar! I am having second thoghts about which dog to bring and might be bringing Lincoln.
  11. Thanks Ptolomy! I will definately consider getting it done by OFA now. I think the 'done thing' in my breed is prelims ad 12 months and full scores at 2 years.
  12. Yes i sent Lexi's there. I had hers scored by the AVA and then I sent them to Dr Wyburn in WA and then to the OFA. Interesting that the AVA scored the hips the highest - Dr Wyburn and the OFA were comparable. If you aren't comfortable talking about it publicly can you PM me but was sending them to OFA really expensive/slow? I like the idea of OFA being a central record where puppy buyers and people researching pedigrees can look up my dogs if they wanted to and find all thier health tests/hip scores in one place publicly available. It was really good for me because Lincoln's from US imports so I was able to verify the health results in his pedigree going back several generations.
  13. Has anyone ever sent films to OFA? (I know its in the USA).
  14. Will any club be running ongoing Rally classes? Also when is Rally being officiated here?
  15. I can't wait but I never realised we were being marked!
  16. I will be going with Toby who knows the obidience you need for agility but nt much else.

  18. Suzanne Clothier and Susan Salo would both definitely say yes. There's also a book called something like Jumping from A to Z by Chris Zink (a sports vet) and Julie Daniels (agility competitor) which goes into jumping style in some detail - and which emphasizes the importance of the dog learning to jump correctly. Clean Run link to the book Sigh I wish I would win lotto so I can buy my Clean Run wishlist!
  19. Do you think it would help prevent injuries?
  20. I had Jack in agility and a horse but since the horses are gone I need two dogs to train (Toby and Lincoln)
  21. No hormones in chicken. Illegal for about 20 years. And inspectors used to check it, but they are not used now. Are u 100% sure? If they dont use hormones why are the chicken breasts you see in store so huge compared to what they used to be?? and Why are the organic ones more of a regular size? Selective breeding.
  22. No I think he was raised very poorly! Toby was an impulse after losing my boy Jack in a car accident. I saw a flyer for BCxLab puppies and I went 'just to have a look' needless to say he is not a BCxLab BUT no way was I leaving that sickly looking pup there.
  23. We got Toby at (supposedly) 8 weeks but he is absolutely terrified of bikes and fly swats. He was underweight and crawling with fleas and in a dirty basket. Makes me think maybe he wasn't brought up in a good enviroment either.
  24. For anyone who is interested here is Toby and Lincoln with the red iSqueak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS2f5AofYU0 and Toby being totally cute and doing the agility equipment while fetching (yes my tyre is sad looking) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdr8oUchE78
  25. Lincoln will sit at the bottom of the stairs and whine too especially since Toby is allowed up. However we have no neighbours and he whines quietly so I have just been ignoring him. :D For anyone who is interested here is Toby and Lincoln with the red iSqueak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS2f5AofYU0 and Toby being totally cute and doing the agility equipment while fetching (yes my tyre is sad looking) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdr8oUchE78
