  1. When my friend rings his 9yo lab (purebred, main register) over he will always charge the fence and bark at the sheep/lambs. He just sees them as something fun to chase, and will only recall when the sheep are no longer running away and have lost thier fun. Goodluck! I would like to see the outcome because I will be getting a gundog in a couple of months, although on the same note I will never let him in with the sheep, only my kelpie x who has herding instincts is allowed in the paddock with them so that the sheep or my dog don't get harmed.
  2. That seems an awful lot to pay for a pet! I know the breed is a high cost breed because it needs a c-section usually and has small litters.... but I'm sure with prices like that idiots would think they can breed for profits (and they probably could).
  3. Sorry to bump this after so long but I just wanted to find out how your dog is? I have just started my boy on an elimination diet of kangaroo and sweet potatoe. He is to be on this for 8 weeks so we can see if he allergies are food related, we are only on the second day. I had to write on his collar "Please do not feed me" because sometimes when he goes to the neighbours he gets snacks. It's going to be very hard I think. I am worried about him losing weight or condition on such a simple diet.
  4. Sounds like a good way to learn more about my SLR which has been stuck in auto mode since I got it By the end of November I shall have a pic up! I might have to read a camera book first! I have a nice camera so I can take decent pictures, but it would nice to know what I'm doing! These are some pics I took at the show on the weekend for a friend: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=39104 All down to having a decent camera... not user skill!
  5. Which is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, the best dock dog of all time!
  6. Our dogs are already fed a mix of biccies and (cooked by my mum) wet food so that shouldnt be an issue! :D Would you think changing to 70% BARF is too drastic for a 13yo?
  7. Thanks for all the replies! After the disaster training session I had on Friday I don't know if Toby will ever be ready.... Ptolmy I don't go to ACWA classes... its too far away from where I am.. but I am sure my instructor will be happy to guide me. Toby has started the tyre and is ok with it.. I am sure he will be introduced to the collapsed tunnel in the next few weeks. That is awesome about NFC trials! I have re-scheduled my plan and I think April is fine to start getting serious.. Do you know if any WA clubs train over the summer break? I think I will wait to enter Jumpers until he is ready for Agility Classes also... and he is a long way off that. Thanks for your help! I am going to steward at a trial next week to find out more about them and will be sure to watch people walking the courses and thier approach to running them to learn how to walk/handle a course.
  8. I'm new to it but I don't really see where the problem would lie in giving dogs both. We have never fed just dry food and that thought makes me cringe... but a few websites have mentioned that you should feed BARF only... I was hoping on the a 70% raw, 30% biscuts ratio. I'm not that strict, so I'd say "yes". Not sure what everyone else thinks.
  9. That and just even in the same diet! For example my mum will not touch most of the BARF stuff but me and my dad are fine with it.. If both of us cannot be home at the dogs feeding time (a rare occurence) is it ok for the dogs to have for e.g just dry food and egg or yoghurt? If you mean together in the same meal, in my experience, yes.
  10. Thanks I found a really good raw outlet close to me called "The Pet Chef"! I was just wondering if it is ok to feed raw food and dry food? And also are there any good informative websites or books about BARF?
  11. Oh! Now I get it.. My pup's grandsire was called Remy and his showname has Remingtion in it... I like it and I might email his grandsire owner and find out if she would mind if I used the name... Remington or RJ (Remy Junior) How about Remington? That's about as American as you can get (the gun) and also fits very will with Shooter and Bullet. (Seita, Michael J Fox is actually a famous CANADIAN. )
  12. I like the cities idea but none of the states/cities around Chesapeake Bay have a good name! Most the names on the list are famouns people, mostly presidents and scietests. The name Lincoln is for Abe Lincoln.
  13. http://agilitynerd.com/blog This is a great site! It has lots of articles and links to other sites with great articles!
  14. I like Thor for a really small dog... or a really tough dog! Justice would have been a perfect name if I had kept studying Law... a lawyer with a dog called Justice... it could be a sit-com!
  15. Is it sad that although these names sound familiar I would not be able to identify these people from a picture... And here I am naming my dog scientist and presidents names... who says uni is good for you social life
  16. I like Rebel... but am just scared he will live up to his namesake
  17. I like Chevy.. but my dad drives one so it would be a bit confusing sometimes... And Boston is really cute but I like it for a girl with Bossy as her nickname. I have Theodore in my list already.. but no-one is voting for it and I spelt it wrong! I really like Barack and Kennedy but I am a bit tentative calling my dog a modern political name in case people want to discuss poltics with me because they think I'm a hige fan or something!
  18. Sorry I knew it was one... Nutro has the same for puppy and large dog. I am leaning towards Nutro I think because the formula is almost exactly the same as Euk puppy, only diffrence is Nutro has calc:phos right and 2% less protien. Puppy isnt even born yet so its 2 months after mid November!
  19. I like Lincoln too and Link is a cute nickname! Ricky Bobby... Maybe if it was a breed from the deep south! I have looked for Chesapeake Bay themed names but sadly Smith is the only one I have found I could stand to call my dog. Dog's dad name is Bullet and his half sister is Shooter so Hunter fits in with the theme! His mum's name is Sparkle....
  20. I can't call my dog Johnnie cause of my uncle, my cousin already has a dog called Lou another cousin's girlfriend is called Jess! (Too many cousins I think) Prince makes my dog sound a bit girly and Ali does not really sound American... Thanks for trying through! I do like surnames as first names, and quite a few of the names are from American Presidents and Scientists (Yes... I read about the scientests at uni)... Or just because I like it and it sounds really American...
  21. The Calcium:Phospohrus ratio is at the same percent for almost all adult and puppy foods that maintain a Calcium:phospohrus ratio. Calcium is at 1.8% and Phospohrus is at 0.8%! We already feed our dogs on a 60/40 biscuts and meat diet. My mum cooks the dogs "meal" every week by adding lean cuts of meat, brown pasta or rice, veges and gravy (mum was like "it has to have flavour"). So I am consdering slightly changing this recipie because I know it probably isn't that healthy.
  22. The instinct test requires you to walk up to the line of stock stay your dog, walk away and recall your dog... from what I read and what I remember... I am just starting out too! We have sheep at home but Tobyonce ran through a gate I left open and went between a ewe and her lamb.... now he is kind of nervous of being headbutted again! I think it would be so much easier to train my dog if I had trained sheep too!
  23. Ok. I am a names person, I like to have something named to make it more real and personal when discussing it. Toby was named as my next dog months before my parents said I could get a new dog... but having a name makes things more personal! My theme is American names, I don't really know much about America so my choice was pretty narrow. Feel free to suggest any more names that might suit my little brown boy! Edited to get rid of two names I just realised I would not call my dog.
  24. I think I might give my breeder a link to Eagle Pack, Nutro and maybe Eukanuba of the relavant foods and ask thier opinion. Thanks so much for all your help guys!
  25. My puppy is coming from Victoria. Can't wait!!! I was in BP & G the other day and they had quite a large range of Eagle Pack... might go tomorow after Uni and investigate... Does anyone know if I could feed a Large Breed Mixture to a medium dog? Or if that would have negative impacts?
