Ohhh and fish! That is supposed to be very good for CBR's! -
Is there any "pre pack" raw mix that you can buy and know it is safe for your dogs?

Feeding A Puppy Adult Dog Food
RallyValley replied to RallyValley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My breeder has never used dog biscuts in Australia so is tentative to recommend any brand to me. I think I will feed my puppy Nutro Large Breed Adult based on that it and Eagle Pack are the only dog food I have seen that talk about the 'calcium phosporus balance' and I cant feed eagle pack because of lamb. The percentages don't seem all that diffrent to Euk puppy which I have heard is a good food but as I don't want to piss off my breeder and I have to tell them which dry food to give the puppy before he comes home I will say Nutro Large Breed Adult. -
Golden Retriever - To Clip Or Not To Clip?
RallyValley replied to loulouB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just talked my cousin out of clipping her Samoyed this week! On the other hand I do clip my elderly overweight (I know that my fault!) dog Lilly because she HATES being brushed and likes ( ) being clipped. I am scared of the heat getting to her and at 13 I don't care that her coat is ruined. On the other hand my cousins 2yo Samoyed should get to enjoy his beatiful coat until he is an old dog. -

I was using the Eukanuba Puppy as it was a recommended example but my breeder has told me not to use a puppy food and they know more then me. I want to have a good relationship with my breeder so I think "defying" them or thinking I know better then them this early on will only cause problems. They say the dogs do better on an Adult food, so I will feed an adult food although I really don't see much difference between some varieties of adult food and puppy food, which I hoped to show with my example above. -

Ok. I can't feed Eagle Pack because the main ingredient is lamb. Stormie and Sagittarian seem to know thier stuff.. so i put this to them... both have the main ingrdient as chicken. Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy Nutrient (percent) Crude Protein not less than 26.0 % Crude Fat not less than 14.0 % Crude Fiber not more than 5.0 % Moisture not more than 10.0 % Calcium not less than 0.80 % Phosphorous not less than 0.67 % Vitamin E not less than 140 IU/kg Omega-6 Fatty Acids not less than 2.40 %* Omega-3 Fatty Acids not less than 0.30 %* Glucosamine not less than 375 ppm* Chondroiton Sulfate not less than 35 ppm* Nutro Large Breed Adult Crude Protein (Min.).........24.0% Crude Fat (Min.)................14.0% Crude Fibre (Max.).............5.0% Moisture (Max)..................10.0% Ash (Max.)............................8.0% Salt (as NaCl) (Max.)..........1.2% Linoleic Acid (Min.).............3.5% Calcium (Max.).....................1.8% Phosphorus (Max.)..............1.3% Zinc (Min.)...................430mg/kg Vitamin E (Min.)...........500IU/kg Vitamin C (Min.).........200mg/kg Nutro Large breed adult states: There is a carefully controlled level of calcium and phosphorus, which is ideal for large and giant breeds adult dogs. I am leaning toward Nutro Large Breed adult which will be fed with a raw diet as recommended by my breeder. Is there anything wrong with these levels for a puppy? Also could I feed my 20kg 1.5 yo Kelpie large breed adult food? (I know the answer is probably no) -
My class is a (very) mixed level beginners class.. so the most I have had the opportunity to sequence so far is 2 jumps and a tunnel. At home I have sequenced 3 jumps and a tunnel but i doubled up on a jump, so 4 jumps and a tunnel. I need more jumps at home I think... I am not in a huge rush to compete but I know people (and I did this with my last dog) who put off competing so much because they are scared to fail. I would rather have the fail and expect it so I can see where to improve... it's almost November so maybe in Febuary I will enter a trial and in January I will visit a couple with Toby.

Eagle pack sounds REALLY good but its main ingredient is Lamb.. which is not so good for Chessies and makes them gassy! But... if I fed a 2/3 raw 1/3 biccies diet it might be ok.... Otherwise Nutro is good because the main ingredent is chicken. -

Thanks for your advice! The breeder said that whatever I chose they would start the puppy on... when I had my last dog (a bcx) we switched him off puppy food at 6 months and the vet literally yelled at us and said that we had stunted his growth! So I am just nervous. I am kind of going between Eagle Pack and Nutro now.. anyone used the two and can recommend one over the other? Hmm seems Eagle Pack comes only with Lamb as the main ingredient in thier Large/Giant Breed packs... looks like Nutro then. -
Thankyou! I know I am a bit off... but at the moment I can run 3 or 4 jumps(I only have 3 jumps at home) with just a pat at the end (although I don't often...). I have to still introduce him to the tyre and brad jup.. OMG and the collapsed tunnel.... Hmm maybe he won't have learned this in class by mid December.. (Stupid Question!) Am I allowed to take a dog to a dog to a trial if he's not entered? I think it might be good to take him to watch, do some training at the noisy grounds ect.. I was thinking of enetring a trial for a 'practice run' in January.. I don't expect to get anything but eliminated but I want to practice filling the entry form.. prepping for a show... having Toby wait his turn and have him be in the ring in front of a judge. And take a REALLY good reward with me that day and just reward him all day (except in the ring) so he thinks that it's the funnest place on earth.

Feeding A Puppy Adult Dog Food

I am just getting more and more confused... @ Poddle wrangler- the breeder has said to me that they "don't do well" on a puppy formula I just want my dog to have a balanced diet and being able to feed dry food is really handy for when other people have to feed my dog. -
Toby's ears were semi-erect until 9 onths when they sprang right up and now he has erect ears... It could go either way I guess...

Do you have the pup on chicken and rice, large breed adult or a puppy formula? -

I wasn't given one but I haven't asked. I am told around 24% is a good guideline. -
I am the future owner of a large breed dog. My breeder has advised me to feed a low protien dry food for adults (along with a raw food diet, but I like to feed dry food too). I have no problem with this advice breeder knows ALOT more then me. I was just wondering if there is any necessary supplements or anything that the puppy will need? And also can anyone recommend adult dog premium dry food? Preferably with chicken as the number 1 ingredient (as the breed does better on poultry then red meat). I am too confused by them all. I know Eagle Pack is supposed to be good but the number 1 ingredient is a "meal" product which I have been told is not good....

I hope so... (goes off to start Christmas list.......)

The other day I was training Toby in the yard and was so busy preparing for my front cross (yes im still an agility newb!) I ran straight into the jump pole.... I heard laughing a realised my neighbour was watching! Not ready for public places yet.....
-
As of today Toby is associate registred! I know I am not ready to compete yet... but my agility club is on break from mid December till Feb and I was wondering when will I know if Toby is ready for Novice Jumpers? I will be stewarding at my first trial on November 7 to get more of an idea.. but is there like a checklist of skills? Also if I enter a trial and Toby is not quite ready will the judge go mad at me? I have never trialled before so I don't really know what to expect!

The photos look awesome! I want Dock Dogs in Perth!

This is great information, I will pass it on to my brother who wants a stafford but who does not know much about what to look for in a pure breed dog. He almost brought a "stafford" from the pet shop the other day, which was $700!

Should Small And Big Dogs Behave The Same?
RallyValley replied to grumpette's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thier used to be a SWF up the road from me who was so bad for this every time we went past it would snarl and nip at my dogs! It used to be allowed to roam freely too. One day my friends lab just picked the dog up and carried it around for few seconds... that shut it up. Of course the owner came when he heard his dog yelping and went mad... but we said to him show us where is he hurt? There was no puncture marks. Of couse the little dog learnt some respect for bigger dogs. Its not little dogs that annoy me just people who let thier dog run up to yours when you are in an on leash area saying "Don't worry he/she isn't vicious" Well my old girl is, which is why she is on a very short leash, if another dog gets to close to her and she feels threatened she may snap. The area where we used to walk was full of people with no respect for leashes or training and I was forever having to yell at people to control thier dogs! -
Hitting The Ring For The First Time
RallyValley replied to angelsophie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am going to start showing next year with my first pure breed dog so it has been great to read this thread! The most nerve wracking thing is that my gundog is 2nd in the list and apparently 1st on the list isn't shown here! So my first show I will be first in the ring! Edited for spelling -
I am very lucky to have a very handy dad! I have started agility fairly recently and my dad has made me a few jumps... Here is a picturs... Anyway he is making me some more soon and will have to order some metal in. The jump cup design is up for consideration (at the moment is a V welded on) and my dad does these any height/heights that I want. They are spiked at the bottom and just stick in the ground. I was wondering if there would be any interest in people buying these? Or any design suggestions as I am new to agility. We worked out we could sell them at about $55 to $60 a pair but the price would depend on the number of cups, if they are zinc plated/galvanized and if the person wants the bar(s) included. Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong spot!

I have started herding with my kelpie boy and luckily I have 5 sheep at home to practice with! I am thinking of doing the instinct test in April.
