Suing you for calling law enforcement about his dog? That's like burglars suing you for calling the police when they try to break in. Or maybe for keeping your doors locked when you're out. I don't think so. But you could report him for making threats to you and harrassing you. I would keep a written log of his dog being loose and causing you problems, and him making threats like that (same as Nic.B with her dodgy neighbours). It is possible to get banned from the civil courts for bringing vexatious law suits (ie ones that have no hope of success).

My First Ever Visit To Centennial Park...
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to tdierikx's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Much nicer photos than the centenial park in Adelaide. That's a cemetary. Though it does get visited by Koalas from time to time. -
I liked Benji as a kid. How to train your dragon - is really about dogs. Honest. They're dogs. Mask - is about the only jim carey movie I have ever liked. And the dog is smarter than he is. Are there charlie brown / snoopie movies? Wizard of Oz features a dog. Dr Dolittle movies. Cats and Dogs. Pretty silly movies but what the hell. The adventures of TinTin There was a footrot flats movie And there is one I haven't seen called hachi - a dog's tail with Richard Gere Never ending story has strong dog elements (again they confuse a dragon with a dog - but I guess that's better than Shrek's donkey dog) "Annie" has a dog Bolt - is about an animated dog. Silly but I watched it. Beverly HIlls Chihuahua - again silly but I watched it. There's a sequel to Mask - erm "Son of Mask". Marmaduke The waterhorse - another dog=dragon movie. Best in Show. I loved it. Not sure if the kids would get it or not.

Oh look isn't that cute - your dog knows "shake hands". But it isn't cos evil hound wraps her little fist around hand shaker's wrist - and shoves the hand on her belly. And she will keep poking the hand until it's in just the right spot. And she's not always gentle either. Sigh. And she has also learned a guaranteed way to get attention and maybe a game of chase me - is "the goose". And her fave target - old ladies. And anyone carrying treats. And to get my attention when I'm on the computer - she comes and puts both paws on my shoulder and barks in my ear. Works every time. Probably just as well - that one.

Suggested Rescue?
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to mixeduppup's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
according to petrescue - there is another little dogs rescue based in QLD and covering QLD and NSW but I don't know anything else about them. -
Suggested Rescue?
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to mixeduppup's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
How much does a greyhound weigh? Maybe the person who does JRT rescue would be a good start? I forget her name. -
I'd hate for the RSPCA to PTS two dogs that already have a good home. I don't understand why the other person handed them to the RSPCA instead of the breeder? And I agree we need to get them out and ask questions later. And then it would probably not be worth getting lawyers involved unless someone like Dr Ness wants to help.

Suggested Rescue?
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to mixeduppup's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Maybe the GAP program - I've only heard good things about them. -
Mish Most of the hollards backed insurance (ie all of them except All nz) have a cap (benefit limit) on how much they will pay on any single condition - usually about the same as the annual amount eg $10K to $15K. What your dog has is called a "chronic condition" ie treatment is ongoing and there is no cure... So after that - it's hardly worth paying the premium. Ie if you have $15K saved up - that's the most any of the Hollards ones will pay out. Unless your dog finds a different way to injure each bit of itself each year. And note - that's half a dog. Any bit it has two of - Hollards only pay on the first bit to get injured. Eg one hip, one knee etc.

Financial industry ombudsman http://www.fos.org.au/centric/home_page.jsp I think those guys cover insurance too. Ie if Real won't pay out because you haven't owned the dog its whole life - then they should refund all your premiums - for taking them fraudulently. My brother got a partial payout - because he had rung before he took the dog to the vet to find out what the insurance would pay out on what he wanted done (a bunch of lumpectomies). Insurance company (another hollards special) tried to argue that only the first lump was covered and all the rest would be considered "pre-existing" after the first one came off. Even tho it was only one surgery. My brother referred them back to the call recording... ie that made a new contract when they said on the phone call about six lumps off, that he'd only need to pay the first 20%. I admit when I take my dog in for her annual vax, I get the vet to do a basic joint and teeth check - so they can't claim pre-existing on any of that. I suppose if the vet finds something - we start claiming and then I say to hell with my insurance. I mostly have it for the big things - eg car accident, snake or tick bite etc.

Betadine Ointment Or Neotopic Lotion
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to Tara and Sam's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's what my vet said - it would make everything purple. He was ok with the aloe vera treatment. I guess there is a slight difference between a horse that doesn't usually come inside and sleep on the couch, and a dog that does. At least what carpet I have is dark red. I might have to investigate the ottoderm or flints medical oil stuff. Or just clean up any stuff she could cut herself on - tho the way things are around here - then she'd just find some broken glass at the park or the beach. -
Betadine Ointment Or Neotopic Lotion
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to Tara and Sam's topic in General Dog Discussion
Frosty cut her pad yesterday and it was bleeding and a nice hanging flap to catch dirt. I put some aloe vera on it, I would have put the purple horse spray if I had it, and took her to the vet who put a dressing on it and wrapped it up gently - so as not to cut the circulation. he put one layer of bandage tape and one layer of blue tape with paw prints on it and recommended putting a baby sock over the bandages. And a freezer bag if we were going outside on wet grass/ground - eg morning dew on grass. Baby sock 00 - 3 months fit perfectly. Agony - two weeks of no beach, and no long walks in the park either. Argh. And a diet. I've decided after three different sets of scales weighed 2kg heavier than mine at home - that maybe mine are wrong (tho mine weigh the same as the airport ones). Dressing needs to be changed in 5 days. -
deek My dog gets cheese all the time... but she nearly choked in a bit of kibble tonight. so many ways to go.

I confess I think we're looking for a lab in Victoria. I got a bit confused by Rubiton's post - they did find one so they're probably not looking any more.
-
well done Becks hmm damaltians / dalmations - losing marks for spelling it wrong - would definitely split the totals. I usually get it wrong. Dallies have really cute - but confusing smiles. I met one at agility - who was acting like she wanted to say hello and kill me at the same time. Owner said we were good to say hello but I found that dog really hard t read. There's another who lives around the corner from me - and I can't work out if he's pleased to see us or not - cos behind the gate he looks like he wants to kill us.
-
I find all labs are as smart as einstein - when there's food to be had and they know they can work for it. After that the trouble is finding the off switch.

Affordable Good Quality Dog Collar?
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to Bobishisname's topic in General Dog Discussion
I like the rogz collars - I get the ones with reflective stripping in them and the lock - though sometimes I think a break away collar would be safer. No trouble with their buckles. Even after other dogs have grabbed them. And they are good at the beach - no rusting and they stretch a bit but stay on. I don't like thinking about what sea water would do to a ruthless collar. They do fade a bit after a year or two, but that doesn't seem to affect their strength. -
I know there are at least two lab breeders connected to Glenside Vet on Greenhill road, Glenside. Element-al is one (listed on DOL). So you could phone and ask them. Vets also sometimes know about dogs that need rehoming. Eg when owners need to move into nursing homes. The SA gun dog club may have some ideas too, their website is a little bit more up to date and they have a good contact list under "committee" - note they're not all labrador owners but they are active in dog club competition and they may be able to find people who can help. http://www.gundogclubofsa.org.au/index.htm Or there is a labrador retreiver club but their website is a bit of a cobweb (out of date) - so you might get more immediate help via the Glenside vet. Ask for or leave a message for Lesley or Gladys.

Opinions Of Youtube Please
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There was no way my puppy was that focussed on anything but chewing my toes at that age. It looks impressive to me - but I'd be impressed with a send out and retrieve at about 1/4 the distance and feel more comfortable about it. And with a longer play break between. But that's more a quibble about the training method than the dog conformation. The video is too blurry and poor quality for me to make any guesses about conformation other than seeing the puppy do all that without keeling over. -
Did they like the questions? About right? Too easy or too hard? Did you have a fun night?
-
Hi Becks You could put a google proofing question in. Eg make something up, and put it in a thread in here... or on the dog star daily forum..(cos that will come up for UK googlers). And given it's a "fake fact" Eg Aussie Shepherds are not a cross between a German Shepherd and a Kelpie... Apparently making something up and planting it somewhere is a popular way for Encyclopaedias and Dictionary compilers to identify plaguerists. So if anyone gets the question right - you know they've been using google. Eg who bred the kangaroo herding dog "the hoppawider" answer Mystiral Nannigerry

Dogs see more colours than shades of grey http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/canine-corner/200810/can-dogs-see-colors They're quite good at blue. So it's good to wear a blue shirt for your dog to see you at a distance. They're not so good at red. Or Orange. Or all the safety shirt colours. You could have a bunch of pictures - guess the breed and some more pictures - name the movie character... eg Lassie, RinTinTin, Red Dog, Benji, Hooch, Hector from Tweetie Pie cartoons. Sports dogs - name three dog sports. (or more). Name three (or more) dog professions eg guide dog therapy dog search and rescue dog (drug) sniffer dog police tracking dog cancer detecting dog termite detecting dog bomb detection dog quarantine dog... Dogs in history First dog in space (tho that's a bit obvious) name of Egyptian god with dog's face name of dog that guarded the gates to the underworld/dead (Greek/Roman) name of wolf that looked after romulus and remus (founders of rome) What did Where is the dog on the tucker box (and why). Where is the kelpie muster? What does ANKC stand for? Depending on your target audience you could make up some multiple choice questions for dog showing and sport jargon translators eg What is a "blind cross"? What is a "front cross" What does "finish" mean? What does OC stand for? How many weave poles are there in a competition set, and how far apart are they meant to be in ANKC (or format of your choice) Agility rules. And a selection of Rally Obedience signs and dogs performing or not performing them correctly (if you have video) eg you could put a sign up and have three people doing the what the sign is and the quiz people have to choose the right performance. Who won britain's got talent in 2012? (or What did Ashley and Pugsley do in 2012) or (a little bit harder to google) play a bit of the music and ask what the connection with a dog is. And maybe some questions about your club and their committee - eg who is club treasurer? or Who founded the club (and what year). again if you have audio visual - maybe get them to read something and ask who it is... Or ask who won what dog club award last year or the most of them. Who did Lynley Dodd write about? What was a Drover's Dog supposed to be able to do in 1983? What was the name of Salt Bush Bill's dog? (there's more than one correct answer) Trick question - What was the name of the dog in Footrot flats.

There's a lot more info about it in the older posts on the facebook page.

I have done it, but only if the owner will let me talk her through exactly how I want the meet and greet to go. Ie her dog must be able to approach on a loose lead, and every time it starts pulling and barking and lunging - she would need to turn away untl her dog was calm again, and I would say - we might not get as far as a greeting today... My dog is extremely good at being non-threatening and friendly. She will lie down and put her head down on the ground and roll over for the other dog to have a completely safe sniff. Which calms a lot of fear aggressive dogs down, but if they're still lunging and barking at the end of their lead - I'm not willing to let them greet and will block the approach or stop the owner. A lot of fear aggressive dogs are pretty easy to get a greet happening - they usually stay behind their owner and show no interest in approaching until my dog rolls over for them first, and then I talk the owner through keeping the lead loose. Ie as soon as the lead goes tight or the owner panics - so does the dog and it all goes to hell. Fortunately for me, my dog's response is usually to clear off away. If the owner is not willing to listen to me - we keep away. I admit if the owner is letting their dog pull and lunge at the end of the lead for the whole walk and approach - I tend to avoid them because they've got no idea and my dog does not like being jumped on by rude dogs. I am disappointed when we can't say hello to another dog who looks like a good candidate - but I respect what the other owner wants.
