  1. OMG ive followed your adventures with the big boofer since he came home Run free Oakley
  2. yep my girl sleeps in a crate everynight and she now 15 months last w/e i bought a bigger one for her and she was a little weary at first even with her bed in it. (its also in a slightly different position in the house) i tempted both mine inside with a biscuit whilst sitting inside! (i have big dogs so big crates!) after that they were fine with it and she now knows it as bed just like before. its just reassociation of the old crate 'feelings' (safe, secure, bed) with the new crate...may take a couple of days go back to the begining of crate training tempting them inside and gradually closing the door etc
  3. you would know instantly if they werent playing around and i usually class it as playing until there is blood involved..... one of my neighbours got very worried that my 2 spent about 2 hours 'fighting' in the backyard one afternoon, he put the hose in them which did nothing! i told him to never interfere in a dog fight (they were quite elderly and i wouldnt want them getting hurt) - i got home to find them both covered in blood but when checked over only damage was Mav had a very small split lip i suspect it was an accident and they continued to play so white paws and chests and faces were covered in blood - i understand why my neighbour thought they were fighting! my 2 sound like seals during mating season when they are playing!!!
  4. mine never asked if they were vacc annually? they were what i considered the best deal at the time but have since changed their policies on breed specific issues (altho nothing unexpected came up) It was AFS petmed also last yr they introduced an excess which they didnt have before so i decided not to bother. Bu tin its original format it covered a couple of very expensive vet trips including an $3500+ 'accident' which i was very relieved about!! it was ~$400 a year Ive since changed jobs and am now in a much better position to pay for any unforescene vet bills i think it depends greatly on your personal situation and the insurance company policy.
  5. RIP So sorry to hear this especially after all the work you did for her health
  6. my girl gets quite a lot of reflux - always after a drink she knda burbs some back up again - shes getting better as shes getting older - if she eats her chew bones too quickly so will sometime chuck up the little pieces during the night and re-eat them.... sounds like in this case the wormer is upsetting her tum a bit

  8. my boy was having a few issues after we moved (he wasnt sure where he could pee etc) and got a bit of a UTI. He would go out and pee for ages (not properly just kinda squirts). I put him on a couple of good splashes of ACV with brekkie and dinner and hes all good 2 days later. Peeing normally and quickly. Hes never had a problem holding it but it was taking him 15 minutes when i let him out to finish !! Hope shes feeling better soon
  9. i dremmel my furkids nails Rogue loves her weekly pedicure!! !!!
  10. Thx guys - i just wanted to check that now a bit older its ok to space things out a bit more every 6 months looks like the go - but ill keep some handy just in case i need it before. I do my heartworm and flea on the first of every month otherwise id forget if the date changed!
  11. Just wondering how often people actually worm their dogs - ive always been a strick every 3 months kinda gal but have recently thought that maybe every 6 months might be better? worming can really be quite damaging for the dog stripping their guts - obviously if either even looked at me like they had worms they would get it straight away to be sure... just curious Thx
  12. I know poodle showies don't use them on the much longer fur, but we're talking some extreme fur, there. My poodles are clipped in a short-medium length pet trim and I can't see any problems with their coats from using a slicker. What do breeders of your breed suggest? i was told to use a comb - takes a lot longer to get a show coat but slickers tend to split the coat more making it look dry i usually just use a plain rake now on my furkids now (not showing anymore). easily pulls out the loose undercoat and takes 1 sec to clear
  13. feed a light diet in very smaller portions - also speak to yor vet as to whether the drugs he may be on may prevent him from losing weight easily...
  14. i only use a rake and comb - ive been told that slickers can damage the coat
  15. does anyone have the name of a specific bleach to clean eg crates? is normal household bleach ok? i will transporting a suspect dog (not sick but has been living near a dog recently diagnosed) tomorrow in a crate in my ute tray and want to be able to clean the tray (which has a liner). Thx
  16. i think it must depend on the Lenards (they are all franchises) - coz the 2 i use (homebush rhodes and northbridge) both just mince carcasses for the pet mince - exactly the same as the bag of bones. I always check exactly whats in it when i change supplier!
  17. i never keep mine that long - its bought fresh during the day and added to the barf mix (with the heart) divided into muffin trays and frozen - then fed frozen
  18. i get my mince from leonards and its always fresh? where are you located? i buy frozen hearts for my barf patties and thaw in the fridge until a little soft - cut them up and chuck them in the mix and refreeze - ive never had any probs with sick dogs. its important to thaw in the fridge - new evidence suggests this can be done with human food too
  19. i feed mine advance puppy growth large breed for brekkie (they get bones/veggies for dinner) they have never had any problems with it and it suits me - doesnt make them stink or poo loads either. its more of a filler in my house than a staple
  20. Name: Bridget Age (optional): 26 Location: Work Sydney & Live/Play Central Coast Rescue Group: Have been involved with Cordys, JRT rescue, 4paws Time in Rescue: started fostering about 3 yrs ago Who can vouch for me: Jaq, Sas, JRT rescue (jill), boomba, GreatDaneGirl (she doesnt do rescue tho ), Feher (she might not be on DOL anymore??), Freckles..... Who can i vouch for? All the above Preferred Breed: ill transport anything, generally have fostered the smaller JRT due to circumstances but had some huskies in the early days Experience (if any): did some Husky/Mal fostering for Husky rescue QLD while they were waiting for transport when Mav was little - they were always kept seperate. Then decided smaller would be more appropriate and after volunteering to bring a JRT girlie up from canberra - ended up getting entwined with JRT rescue had quite a few JRT - Mav loves them they play really well and taught him how big he really is and must be gentle with the littlies:) Reduced to transport after moving up the coast to live getting Rogue (couldnt have fosters with a baby pup around) and getting an anal landlord! so now do regular runs for Boomba :D Hope to return to fostering once we FINALLY buy a house (which we have been trying to do for months ) :p
  21. we had a dog that used to come muzzled - he was dog aggressive - we requested and owner was happy to oblige - he has come far enough not to need it anymore - but we make any new members aware to keep their distance - she is a responsible owner and i think you should always be allowed if its how you feel comfortable... i can see the not fighting back point but fights shouldnt be getting to that point at an obedience class
  22. i titled my boy and bought very little. I couldnt afford to just buy a hydrobath - so just used to bath him in our bath and if done from an early age its fine - they settled very quickly - i would recommend having a second pair of hands the first few times tho! i use combs rather than slicker brishes (i find it less damaging to the coat) I would sugget buying a dryer - i didnt have one and found the going tough. a big crate is a must for the showground and some thing to shade yourself and pup. almost everyone at shows has a gazeebo for this purpose. a table is very useful - especially if its a wet show - keeps them out of the dirt!! train pup to be groomed on the table it saves a lot of backache! i also had a ground stake - so when hes out of the crate you dont need to hold the lead all the time. wheres your pup from? who are the parents?
  23. i didnt think a dog could drink whilst wearing any muzzle??? is it for any reason in particular - My OH joked about getting Rogue one to stop her chewing everything but it means she cant drink either...
  24. i would suggest practice with the dog would be sufficient...you do get the hang of it - just make sure you know exactly what your supposed to be doing and eventually it will come...
