Cocker Spaniel Needs Help
keetamouse replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
The staff passed on his history to the new owner along with his meds, I am thinking positive about this one and feel the new owner knows about his issues and will deal with them, I can't imagine they would take on the dog with known issues and just dismiss them, people usually bypass these types of dogs, we will know if it goes belly up if he ends up back at the pound or is listed on Gum Tree/allclassified. Cocker Spaniel Needs Help
keetamouse replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Dog was adopted I did say to the rangers that I hoped his new owner is home a lot otherwise he is going to be no better off than where he came from and may end up back there, I am going to positive with this one without judging the new owner, I just don't know anything about them. Maree -
Cocker Spaniel Needs Help
keetamouse replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I will help anyone to rehome their dogs and spend a lot of time doing it, I always ask if they have others helping as well, this lady said no and now find out that Burkes has spent a lot of time as well and this is the end result. I am sure people think we have nothing else to do but take their dog. I am hoping he settles in the pound, he will probably get more attention now than what he has got for the first 17 months of his life, he has things to look at, people walking by, walking etc no wonder he ripped up their garden and had no respect for the young owner. I will call in today to see how he's going and report back, also see what they have told the rangers. Maree CPR -

I emailed her yesterday and told her I would let her know, if he gets adoption, goes to rescue or is put to sleep, I hope she had a bit of a shudder when I said the PTS bit. Maree CPR -
Cocker Spaniel Needs Help
keetamouse replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I am so pissed off at them after the time I have spent talking to them and giving them tips to make him a bit more comfortable so I can have a bit of time to hunt around for some where for him to go, they go and do this and not even having the courtesy to let me know, I don't know why I bother sometimes I will email the lady. I just hope his anxiety issues don't get worse. I will let DAS know what his history is. Maree CPR -
I have had an enquiry from a family who are needing help in rehoming their Cocker Spaniel, he has anxiety issues and will need a home where there is someone home for most of the day or another dog, he just isn't coping being alone all day. He is 17 months old and is currently on “Lovan” for anxiety. He is collar sensitive and the owners pull his collar when they want to get him out of the garden beds or away from anywhere really, he will react, have told them to have him on a short lead and use that. He needs to be in a better environment where he will get all the training and companionship he needs he is still a pup and has just been in a backyard with nothing to keep him occupied, I am hoping a cocker person could help him or anyone really who knows what they are doing, he just needs a safe place to get what he needs. Can anyone steer me in the direction of a Cocker rescue or at the least someone who may be able to help. I think if he was in a different environment with another dog for company this would help him immensely and so any help you can give in finding this would be greatly appreciated Maree CPR

I received this today and wanted to make people aware what is happening in a dog park in Canberra, park not mentioned. Hello fellow dog owners, My lovely friend Ali alerted me to this yesterday…. Some sick freaks have been putting dog food with nails in it around the dog parks in Canberra (see the attached photo of the stuff she found yesterday). Please be careful with your beautiful babies, and maybe spread the word………. Maree CPR

A stat dec will do it, saying that he has abandoned the dog make sure you put his name on the stat dec, hopefully the dog is in his name. Maree CPR

I could not help myself and sent this email: I cannot believe that a human being who has had a dog for 12 years think that a pool is more important than the dog, I just hope he does find a great home where his life will have a much higher value than bricks and water....and to think your other dog will no longer have his companion to keep him company because your family want the pool instead of a dog. I hope every time you get in that pool or just admire it you know that your dog haunts all of you knowing that he paid the ultimate price for every ones entertainment and pleasure. Maree

I just rehomed a Skye Terrier girl approx 10 years old, from Queanbeyan Pound from 12 months ago I took her off the site for most of that time as she was diagnosed with a really bad heart murmur and her teeth were really bad, the vet would not operate on her teeth he felt she would die on the table, so we put her on heart medication and she is doing well, walks every day runs around and is having a great time. I put her back on the site no more than 6 weeks ago and she rehomed 2 weeks ago to a gay male couple who have a Collie/Coolie and a pure Coolie and they all get along, she is a great little girl, the vet has reassessed her teeth and heart and we may do the dental so she can feel a lot better, so keep fingers crossed that she makes it. I did offer to continue to pay for her meds for the rest of her life. I asked the boys why they contacted me and they said they imagined that the oldies would take longer to rehome, I said actually they go quicker because of the reason they gave me. Maree CPR

Barriers To Formal Behavioural Assessment
keetamouse replied to Cosmolo's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I always go in to the pound and see for myself if the temp notes are not in favour with some of the smalls and I understand when the testers put that the dog was snappy as some are under stress and the testers take that in to account, also I do take risks with some of them and take them home, I also understand that some new carers are not comfortable with taking a small when they don't test very well. I had to leave one dog behind some 8-12 months ago the poor boy was just petrified and did nothing but sit right up the back of his pen and gave off some really bad vibes, he was just the type of dog that I would take and even I was not able to get near him, the poor boy did not make it. I have faith in the testers at DAS and also the knockers are told time and time again that they report what they see "on the day" unfortunately they don't have the luxury of being able to walk the dogs outside the pound and observe them under different circumstances. The testers do a great job week in week out and people need to trust their judgement and as we keep saying over and over again "we can't save them all" Maree CPR -

Need Someone To Walk 2 Dogs
keetamouse replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Can't be all that unusual ... given I knew of a similar situation with a similar reason. And it was done without problem. I vaguely remember it was even checked out with the local police ... & their comments were sensible & supportive about the priority for getting essentials to the dogs. My only other suggestion would be to find one of those pet carers who run a business where they go in & feed and exercise dogs for people who are on holidays. Thanks Mita I think that is the way to go, I just thought it would not be an issue and if there was someone on DOL that could help out that would be fine. Maree -
Thanks Staffyluv, I have had a few move as well and one was down near the dogs bottom.

Need Someone To Walk 2 Dogs
keetamouse replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Soory guys I don't actually know if the house is empty I know the wife isn't there, maybe that is why he can't go near the house becuase there is still stuff there, he did say that the solicitors were aware that the dogs needed to be cared for hence why they can be walked and fed. I can't see a problem, what are people worried about that they will be taken to court for tresspassing, or fined for entering the property, just not sure why? So if there is anyone here who would like to help and walk his dogs maybe they can PM me and I can give them his number and they can call him themself, if no one can help I will ask for the thread to be moved. Need Someone To Walk 2 Dogs
keetamouse replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
There is a court order that "the husband" can't go near the house, the solicitor told him ANYONE else can go to the home and feed the dogs and walk them, but NOT HIM. His mother is doing it now and it isn't a problem but she is going home early next week. If I could walk 2 bigs dogs then I would do it but I can't, I would not have asked if I thought there would be a problem. Of course people can ask and I have told them so it is up to them, if they don't want to get involved then that's fine but there is nothing wrong in me asking either if there is some one who can help this guy out.
