  1. The Parson was bred to work exactly the same as a Border Terrier. They are an earth dog but quite a frothy breed and would not have been run with the hounds very often,as a Border, due to temperament - the Border has a temperament that must get on with other dogs to enable it to run with hounds. I started in this breed and was on the National Committee in the UK during the recognition of the breed and had 2 on the Foundation Register. The breed never really took off out here and 3 of mine were registered as JRs in Australia and are behind many of the Aussie dogs today but as JRs not Parsons. The 8 I brought home from the UK were all homed as the NZKC would not Register them back then. Huge waste. All the JR dogs from the UK and Europe in the earlier days (even registered JRs) are in fact from the exact same gene pool as Parsons and were just shorter in height but had the same proportions as a Parson and of course threw some bigger, leggier pups. They were used here to refine the JRs and fix up the poor fronts. They are quite big overseas but are losing out to the cute factor of the Aussie generated small cobby breed which really has little in common with the working Parson. One of the big differences in the 2 breeds is temperament. I remember being amazed at how wonderful the Aussie JRs were compared to the Parsons and UK JRs (that were just unregistered Parsons) - there was a huge division in the Club with some feeling that the breed would be ruined and that is why the Register was reopened a few years ago to let the others come on board as they were desperate for the gene pool. Many of the dogs remaining that did not come on board originally, were the finest in the UK. That is a bit of history of the breed - sadly it had a small run in NZ with Gloria Geraghty but an American Import decimated her Kennel with a serious health issue and she lost heart. She now has 3 Border Terriers from me.
  2. 1716 - I have the catalogue if you need anything.
  3. I have found that most of the Ag Shows will charge to come in and parking also. If there is no pass then I assume that is what they will want - saying this, if it is a free entry for dog competitors then that is a bonus but I wouldn't hold your breath! Doesn't seem right when we pay entry fees plus we are part of the spectacle for the paying public.
  4. Would need my crystal ball for that Amy! It is tomorrow! Today was Sunshine and BIG was Marsh's Staffy (also Open), r/u Cinnamon's WireFT, Baby was Camac & Co's Smooth, Puppy was Staffy, Int was Buckley's Kerry, Aust Bred was Cathy's Cairn (Spy) and that is all I can remember. :)
  5. I believe Carole (Sec) is fine - just too much stress and no wonder with all the goings on. As competitors we need to be mindful of how difficult the challenge is to keep the whole thing running and try and be a little more helpful when we can. Clubs perhaps also need to ask for assistance if they need it as many would offer to jump in and lend a hand for a short while. I really like these shows indoors and I know they are looking at sorting the slippery floor problem but it certainly could have been helped by cleaning up dog hair after you groomed (to those who didn't bother - and there were plenty). I organised a couple of others to help me sweep our ring before judging started as on the day, "it is what it is" and we need to make the best of it. I am not making excuses for the Clubs (I was also a competitor that almost went a-over-t) but as they just rent the facility, they are doing everything they can to allow mats etc to be laid. It is not all that easy from what I have heard. I am sure someone from the committee could be asked to make a statement regarding this - I spoke with them afterwards and they want change also but can only do what they are allowed.

  7. I hope you didn't cause much damage there Bohunt??    Not entered on Saturdy. Does anyone know if the crickets/locusts are out again this year? BB hahahaha - I reread it and thought ..... probably will get away with it. I deserved that one! Still wanting to know if everyone else is waiting for numbers but I can always ask when I get to the show. Just like having everything ready well in advance.
  8. Has anyone got their numbers for the Saturday shows (Bendigo)? I have just got back from driving into the Post Box in Kilmore but nothing. If everyone else is in the same position then I am not concerned - will check on Friday as I drive through Kilmore. Grateful for such a wonderful venue which will be great with the forecast of Thunderstorms. :)
  9. Absolutely the best and I have a few. Always take this one as I can manage every part on my own. LOVE IT!
  10. Just checked the weather for all 3 days. Predicting: FRIDAY - 34C with Thunderstorms SATURDAY - 34C Sunny SUNDAY - 34C Sunny Remember to pack all the 'stuff' for a warm weekend. I was very badly burned at the Lancefield cluster due to my own stupidity and don't plan a repeat of this. Cheers
  11. BIG was Sorraghans AIREDALE r/u BIG - Staffy (bitch ??? I have never seen before) Baby - Staffy Minor puppy Jnr - thinking the r/u BIG Staffy was Int - Border Terrier bitch 'Ch Bohunt Pandamonium' Aust Bred - Border Terrier 'Ch Bohunt Pillow Fight' Open - BIG Int In Show was Tracey's Great Dane "Jackson" Aust Bred in Show was Eng Springer bred and handled by Stephanie Rickard Cheers
  12. I was told that too but when I spoke with Sporting Terrier Committee members they said it was wrong and she hadn't. ??? Glad I didn't go to Sp/Terrier now - at least she will have not seen any of my dogs before Sydney .... if she did do the show this year in Melbourne. If this is correct, it will affect the entries.
  13. I didnt say that I didnt agree that titles should be harder... but do we seriously need to carry on and on about something that has been decided on? How about we look at it from another's point of view and be a little more open minded... or would we just rather everyone p*ss off out of the showring so we have no competition at all? I have top winning kelpies, yes that win at group and show level, with consistant best of breed wins but not enough competition to crack the 25pt best of breed yet. All I am trying to say is that there will be dogs out there that are exceptional for their breed but are unable to pick up groups. This is usually because judges continually put up the favourite breeds. Honest judges seem to be getting harder and harder to find, but they are out there... it is a matter of being patient til they turn up. I just hate seeing ALL dogs that have titles without group wins lumped in the same box. Seriously, those that are dodgy winners, everyone usually knows about anyway within their own breeds. I do understand what you are saying and you are venting out of frustration - been there and do completely understand this point. I just sat down many years ago and thought hard about why I show Border Terrier rather than Poodles, Sibes, Staffies etc and realised I showed my breed because it is my great love - that is what it is all about. We have become so focused on all the 'fluff' that we are losing our souls to it (bit dramatic but making a point here) and I was not about to trade my breed in for some BIGs and BISs. I decided to do everything I could to have the best I could in my chosen heart breed and when I get a BIG or BIS, my heart really sings as I know how hard it is to get there. The harder the Challenge the greater the reward. This is the price we pay for loving certain breeds and many might deserve a Grand or Supreme title but we have made these choices - ie, having a little brown dog, not being a judge, living in Timbuktu, living in Melbourne. I am sure not going to change anything or compromise for a certificate that really means "what"?
  14. I'm more interested in how many entries will appear at the shows that are on in July next year-not many shows that month so bound to be well supported! We might need to take sleeping bags! Show Secretaries will be panicking and Club Treasurers smiling broadly. Great way to keep the show numbers up and I believe they have been flagging recently. It doesn't matter what the system is - as many have said, not everybody will be happy. 10 BIGs will be easier for some and it is certainly easier in some States - we all know and acknowledge that. No-one will surely disagree that showing a Terrier to BIG in Victoria is an easy task so expect visitors, other States. Other Groups will have the same stories in certain States. It is a reality and people are well entitled to do so without being accused of Petrol Titles. The people in the areas that have less competition (if no-one was allowed to travel) would be equally offended if they were accused of having 'poor man titles' because they did it with 30 dogs of mediocre quality in the Group. It is what it is, folks and won't get any easier for anyone - even for the 'popular dogs/breeds/exhibitors, as they always have a like soul to also get past for BIG. In answer to the minority breed issue. My breed certainly is not one that is considered a dead cert for BIG however I have already qualified my young boy for the Supreme Title (albeit a few remaining Grand points) and I don't show all year, am not a judge and do not move in political circles. I have another life which I always enjoy and will get there - haven't bothered rushing and don't need the first/youngest title to go with it. Much of this is ego driven and sometimes we can lose sight of what is most important - our BREED. Be happy and good luck winning those BIG and CCs - I will certainly be having a red hot go at it and continue to enjoy being out there with my dogs otherwise I will hang up my leads.
  15. I have the Champion ones and I was very disappointed with the performance of these and they were very expensive. Have just had a new order from the USA of the ones I have loved and used for years which are the Chamois ones. The Brand is GOTCHA COVERED and they have been the best and I will not use anything else now. Postage was free this time and they arrived really quickly. Great to deal with too and could highly recommend. Just had a look and nothing listed on Ebay this morning but you could contact her I am sure: http://stores.ebay.com.au/gotchacovered Cheers
  16. Good luck Missymoo and Weisnjac and all other competitors - weather will hopefully be good. I am off to Brissie for the night, for a change of scenery and catch up with a Bestie - Vicki Shaw (Whippets and Salukis). Husband loves my mates so is coming with me and this is the FIRST time he has ever been to a dog show with me. Looking forward to a few laughs and some great catch ups.
  17. I am astounded that you only notice your girl has come in on the way to a show. My boys indicate 2 weeks leading up to the start of the event and the swelling makes it pretty obvious. As I said - different strokes for different folks and people will always justify their actions. I am ready for the caning on here and frankly my care factor is zero. I would wonder how often your boy has been used as all my boys - who are used active studs (and I have had plenty after 20 years of owning, breeding and showing) would not be at their best with a bitch in season in their midst. Just my opinion and I already have the flame suit on! I recently pulled all my dogs from a show when a competitor showed a bitch in full season - pointless exercise for me and I voted with my feet. Dragging my dog around with his head glued to the table and grass is not my idea of fun but I happily tossed away my entry money and points rather than put the dog through that.
  18. I personally never show my bitches in season and think those who do are a pain in the A. I have 2 well used stud dogs that are not going to be disciplined to understand that some bitches are not OK to be interested in - keeping boys keen to mate (in our softer breed) is paramount. Until they ban it, I will live with it as others do, but one of my dog goes around the ring looking like he has been thrashed - just his protest as he has other things on his mind. I have seen these girls dripping blood on the table, weeing in the rings, flagging at the slightest touch - YUK. There are so many shows in Australia you cannot be that desperate. I cannot understand why the owners of bitches are so determined when it is only 2 times a year to have to pull them. Makes the day unbearable for many exhibitors with ACTIVE Stud Dogs and cannot be much fun for these girls either. There is also the health risks to them too. I like the UK policy on this matter. Leave them at home.
  19. Had a great day and such lovely weather. Wonderful to catch up with you again Missymoo and your kids are so well behaved. The grounds were just great and easy to show a dog on, catering vast and yummy, the prizes were amazing for such a small show - big thumbs up for the Committee. A great effort was made and it showed. On a sadder note and a big thumbs down, it was disappointing (and that is an understatement!) to discover that someone has backed their vehicle (and or trailer) into the side of my husbands new Falcon Ute doing a few thousands of dollars damage. The impact is such that they would have noticed it happen and to leave without owning up says what sort of person this is. Hope you had a nice day - I have a furious husband and we will lose our no claim. What a low life. Great weekend collecting 61 points towards completing Axle's Grand title, over the 4 days we showed - just turned out to be very expensive in the end. Gaela
  20. I've had 2 arrive in the last 30 days - one I took over to show at the NZKC Nationals and one was a new young dog I bought while there. Both instances were roughtly the same: You will probably go to Qantas Freight in the Freight area (they always phone you a couple of days in advance to tell you where to go and ensure you are going to be there to accept the puppy). When you go in, you have to get a ticket from the queue machine and wait your turn. Once your number comes up you give them the Weigh Bill number and they look it up on the computer. They produce paperwork (once the dog has been cleared by Customs and the Vet), you hand over yet more money .... between $80 - $90 (for paperwork and vet clearance). You will then be directed through the Security Area and handed a yellow vest. You drive around in front of the building and they bring the dog to you in the crate. Do not get out of the car without a yellow vest on or Security will go ballistic at you. The process is a drama so ask at Qantas (sweetly), if someone will bring the crate over to the Office for you. It can take a while for the dog to be cleared - one of mine was 1 hr 15 mins, the other 2 hrs 30 mins. Ridiculous but that is how it goes. Make sure you have some ID on you to - Drivers License or Passport are best. I did have one come in last year with Virgin and it was at a different place and seemed a lot easier. Good luck and enjoy your new pup.
  21. Cathy was BIS on Sunday with James. Junior in Show was my young girl Bohunt Pandamonium - she was JIS all 3 days. Could have knocked me over! She got her title on Saturday as she was hunting 6 points and came home after the weekend with 59! Was a super weekend with 2 BIG, 3 JIS and a PIG.
  22. BIG was my boy Ch Bohunt Pillow Fight (Border Terrier) TOLLEY r/u BIG was a smooth Fox terrier from the Junior Class - PRICE Puppy was a Cairn from Joymont handled by the lovely young lady, Skye. Two Am Staffs had Groups wins - one being bred from ZForce and this boy was also BOB. Border Terriers and Am Staffs were both Pointscore shows, so nice entries. BIS Lineup was: CKCS Border terrier English Setter (Bowey) - (BIS) PBGV Aussie Shepherd Dobe Dalmation (r/u BIS)
  23. Could you all describe the leads you are looking for as I have someone staying who opened her dog bag and has a lead that is not hers. Said it must have been put in there when she was at the Park. She just wants a description so the rightful owner gets it back. You could pick up at Bulla tomorrow. Cheers
  24. Find the dog first then get the Agent they use, to do it. If something is wrong in the paperwork, it turns into a nightmare. Someone else in my breed imported from another Rabies country and the paperwork was not perfect resulting in the dog having a very long and expensive stay in Quarantine - roughly 3 months. The Agent may be a good investment and take all the stress out of it.
