  1. I thought Group 1 was always inside. A friend with Poms is planning to be inside. Lucky ducks!
  2. Anything impacting on another competitor is totally unfair. Squeeking toys are something we have at home and never take to a dog show, let alone in the ring. Teach your dog to respond to something else. Bait is perfectly fine and keep it in your hand, pocket, bra (speaking for myself!) etc. NEVER throw it. My heart sinks when I see a lovely competitor (they always are lovely people) behind me for Group waiting to go in with a Bull Terrier and a huge toy or squeeky. My boy understands to ignore it but the Bullies often end up bouncing all over him in a bid to get the toy. I truly hate it and find it bad manners. I ask them politely to give me a bit more room before we set up and I try and leave a little more in front of me to walk up into but we shouldn't have to do this. A bit of training and discipline at home is what is needed rather than doing it in the ring.
  3. Thank you Sway for taking the time to come and chat - I was very pleased to meet you and was impressed! To the Show Organisers - a gorgeous setting, great wine (I won) and the food at the show was a benchmark for others. Really had a terrific weekend and worth the drive up each day - exhausted tonight but the wine is relaxing me and still basking in the glow from the r/u BIS. I will be back. Nice people that just wanted to help in every way. GT
  4. BIS - OES r/u BIS - Pointer Baby- Papillon (Stephanie Rickard) Minor -think was the Portugese Water Dog that also was BIG
  5. Group 2: BIG: Bedlington (went on to r/u BIS - Poodle BIS) r/u BIG: Wire FT (Cinnamon) BP: Border T (my wee boy who went on to get BP In Show) Junior: Stafford (Marsh) Minor in Show was a Pom - Donna's. All I can remember at the moment. Cheers
  6. Thanks for that. The forecast is saying a bit more rain but nothing like we have had so if it fine for the show at this stage, then tomorrow should be OK. Reckon I'll find something older to wear as I've had a couple of new suits ruined from being soaked or muddied.
  7. Any news about the show? The Classic thread had someone suggest that it may not go ahead. Would be nice to get a bit of warning before we all go and groom dogs. This is my only show for the whole of February and will leave coats as they are, if the show is going to be cancelled.
  8. For those interested in Group 2, I have just had a phone call and these results are: BIG - Smooth Foxie (Price) r/u BIG - Kerry Blue Junior - Border Terrier (Worthington) Australian Bred - Border terrier (Worthington) Bev and Denise were pretty excited with their great results so well done to them. Cheers
  9. Where are you standing when you are stacking him? Sounds like you are on the side of him - try moving in front of him for a start. I always use 2-3 types of 'exciting' bait on show days that are not what he sees at any other time. The other ideas are all good but I would try getting in front. Also, stop the continual training at home now - sounds like he has had plenty. Give him a break and try what I suggested at the next show. Keep him surprised and not knowing what is coming next - his brain knows exactly what you are doing before you do it. Cheers
  10. Spoke with Gloria and Seb today and they said to tell you the following: They had been looking at selling the Business but have decided not to now. They will be continuing but being more selective when and where they operate, to take a bit of pressure off. Cheers
  11. I am already struggling with our Group - hard when you are running with 5 dogs! BIG - Bedlington R/U - NZ Import Kerry Blue - the one that was BIG on Saturday and Jess handles it Baby - Border Terrier (Tolley) Minor - Cairn (Scotton) Puppy - Junior - Inter - Kerry Blue (r/u) Aust B - Bedlington Open - 2 Staffords went up for age in Group but cannot remember which despite the fact that I was in the ring for Puppy and Open. Sorry but was running and very tired now. Will update if the light bulb goes on. One amazing result was with the Great Danes. BIG went to a Dane and his litter brother was R/U BIG - under the Japanese judge. They were thrilled.
  12. BIS - Maltese r/u BIS Puli Baby - Samoyd Minor - Cairn (Scotton) Left at that point. From memory: BIS Lineup: Maltese, Bedlington. Gordon Setter, PBGV, Puli, Akita, Great Dane
  13. Wow! Go the Kerry's  Any other Group 2 results? Baby was Campbells Smooth who went on to take BP in SHOW! ;) Minor was Cairn - Scotton Puppy was Border Terrier - Tolley Junior - might have been Scotton again with a Cairn Intermediate - Kerry Blue, also BIG Aust Bred - Kerry Blue Open - Soft Coated Wheaten
  14. Not sure of the dog's name but it is the one Gerry bred that is owned and shown by the young quiet lad with red hair. In show judge does Group 2 today so he should do well.
  15. Thanks for that Amy. Been a nice w/end so far (well showing wise!). Rain yesterday and today was very hot, with hotter expected tomorrow. Was shortlisted for Group today and Axle went on to get Int in Group and Teasel, Minor again. Hope to see you there tomorrow but it might be very hot for the kids. Cheers
  16. BIG - Wire (Hinde) r/u - Smooth (Price) Baby - Border (Tolley) Minor - Border (Tolley) Puppy - Cairn (Scotton) Junior - (Bullie) Intermediate - Staffy (Silvara Kennel)
  17. Some of the things mentioned here need to be well thought out before you start putting money down for complaints. You want to be damn sure you have your facts straight. Example: I won DCC and BOB a few weeks ago at Kyneton Ag Show and 10 mins later a friend asked me if I had entered the wrong dog. To cut a long story short, the catalogue had my boy's father entered rather than Axle and while in Axle's class the dog was much to old for anything other than Open. After a visit to the Secretary and the Show Manager, my entry form was checked and they discovered that the Database of dogs they use, shows all dogs previously shown at 'their' shows and they had by accident, clicked on the wrong dog. All sorted, apology, a few giggles and the Challenge was awarded correctly. It would be really stupid for anyone to not check all the facts first, then sleep on things and to be sure you want to go down such a path and is it really impacting on you if your 'fears' are correct. Dog showing is becoming such a hostile environment and we all need to band together a bit more as we have greater enemies to fear in the coming years.
  18. Got home an hour ago and exhausted. Great trip up and back but unfortunately chose the wrong Motel - All Transit - and had to move when it was flooded. Was taken in by doggy mates at the Camellia and had a great stay there. Fantastic show and caught up with the NSW Border Terrier folk. We won best Xmas Canopy (all credit to Bev who is a master at these things - one needs a great stylist! ) and the Fancy Dress with Bev dressed as the Arch Angel and dog in same outfit. Looking forward to seeing photos of the 3 of us getting into the spirit of it all. Was fun! Denise has an elf with the Xmas stocking dog and I managed to escape the costume cleverly and took in my boy Axle as Santa. He was a hoot with his pompom from his hat balanced on his nose all afternoon. He thought he was a dude. Cheers
  19. Just spoken to a truckie mate who has travelled through Narrandera last night and is now in Toowoomba. He has told me to go up the Hume and take the Corowa exit, bypass Corowa and travel to Urana. Turn right at the T junction at Urana and travel to Narrandera. He said Narrandera had some wet spots but traffic is directed around it. My group are now all debating and want to go through Shepparton but I'm rather leaning to Truckie advice as they do this all day and talk with each other. Anyone got an opinion about this route?
  20. Keep an eye here for road closures and updates: http://mobiletraffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au/floodalerts http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/
  21. I suppose the point is, if a dog arrives in this country with an Export Pedigree reflecting titles that he has been awarded and we are running under the same system, they should be retained. How would we feel if a dog was exported with titles from Australia and had them removed on the basis that the breed was a smaller one here and it was achieved with 6 point challenges or didn't like the way we awarded things like Tracking etc. I fail to see the relevance of the comment about a dog improving the breed etc and I can only speak for my own dog. He won in an enormous entry (Border Terriers have big entries overseas in many countries) and under an English Breed Specialist - one of the most revered in the breed today. Many of his progeny are current breed winners and he was an enormous winner himself. He has also had a BISS here in Australia. I fail to see that this should have ever been a consideration as to whether he kept the WW-08 title and it should be a consistent practice to honour Export Pedigrees. To add - and apologies for a bit off topic ...... I would have thought the removal of the Swedish Tracking Title was the most appalling as very few successful show dogs get this in our breed, very diificult to get and a working title. To get this they must track injured animals and it is a requirement for all hunters to have a dog with this title/certificate before they can get a gun license. Remember that when they are removed here they are lost in the future Export Pedigree if the dog goes onto another country that would have acknowledged it.
  22. There is such a thing as an International Champion and the other is the World Winner Title, the latter only be achievable at the World Dog Show. On a pedigree one looks like this: Int Ch the other: WW-08 (if the win was in 2008) Here is my dog on the Dogzonline profile and below how his titles were displayed overseas and it includes the ones removed: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=40949 SVCH S N INT UCH NV-05 SV-08 WW-08 NORDV-08 Damdyke Gentil Hugel
  23. I would also be happy to see it cancelled and the money used for a super-dooper show next year. Takes all the risk and uncertainty away and those that work can cancel leave and save it for another day. I am in a group and we have all agreed to touch base later tomorrow and make a decision plus we will travel in convey (if going) to look after each other.
  24. I'm with Poodlefan and as much as I want to show here I am having serious doubts. Emergency services will be under enormous strain as it is and do they need a mass of dog exhibitors trying to get through if not 100% safe for the WHOLE of the weekend? I am in Kilmore and the thunderstorm has not stopped. Golf course, that I look over, is flooded in many areas. We need to be completely sure that the roads are clear and uncompromised before embarking on the journey.
  25. I was very upset to have it removed and people need to understand that when dogs are purchased from overseas, many are priced based on the titles they have. To have them wiped off is just awful.
