  1. 2nd part They were out walking with the dog in the photo and he hurt his leg. He had to walk a mile (1 1/2ks) back to the van they took him straight to the vet he had a piece of wood 6 inches long up inside his leg vet said he was very lucky it missed the tendons and main veins. 1st part They had put up a photo of their other dog Millie but none of Jamie but after the accident they decided to put this up. 3rd part Jamie wasn't happy at the vets and they were happy to get him home. Thats the main gist of what they said. Poor boy I couldn't carry a wolfie for a mile either. I have also read a lot of James Herriot.
  2. VERY VERY CUTE Lots of puppy licks, puppy cuddles and that puppy smell and how to waste time sit and watch them. We won't talk about the work I have pups due 22nd
  3. Would it be possible to get a dog trainer to help? It may also help if you got the Lab desexed.
  4. Great story I hope Andrew and Sapper go on to have a great life. Several months ago we had a dog surrendered to Hawkesbury Pound (west of Sydney) NSW by a young chap who was most upset. He had been posted overseas with the army on short notice to replace a soldier who didn't make it. His girlfriend decided to break it off with him and didn't want the dog and he had no family in NSW to take him. We made sure that dog got out and to a good home. It was on the Hawkesbury thread at the time. Army, Navy or Air Force they and their families give up more than most of us realise.
  5. Yes did that And quiet a few of the other things What if your dogs have their own fridge, freezer and food cupboard and thats what your check 1st before you go out to see if anything is needed.
  6. From another horse owner Some ????? people don't deserve to walk this earth. What will they go on to do if not caught now and punished properly. R.I.P. :D :D :p :p
  7. Hi Poppy Dog If she is sleeping now it probably not to much wrong maybe it hurt when she "went" or she stood on a sharp stone that didn't cut her. Just watch her today. Is she a wuss dog. Not much help but I am awake.
  8. Surely there is ultrasound to detect the uterus and ovaries? good point. i never understood that the bitches would be operated on twice because they had no tattoo In most cases the bitch hasn't been desexed so you have the added expense of the ultrasound. Rescue groups have a hard time meeting expenses as it is.
  9. I volunteer at my local pound. Some very good points have been made and I would just like to add: Most microchipping is done when puppies are sold and desexing details are not added later. Not everybody updates their details when moving. Well loved dogs and cats can and do end up in pounds. We have had many frantic people looking for their much loved pet and cases where the house was broken into and the dog let loose, gates left opened etc. We check ears for tats as it does give the dogs a better chance of being adopted or going to a rescue group. You know a desexed bitch cannot be pregnant and that someone has cared enought about that dog to get it desexed.
  10. Run free sweet girl with the soulful eyes As you slipped away peacefully I whispered in your ear about the the lovely dogs who would be there to meet you. You had two quiet peacefull days with lots of cuddles and good food. You had grass under you feet, sunny blue sky above and bush next door to look at. A much better way to spend your last two days here on earth. May you have good memories of this as we do. Rest In Peace sweet Gaby I am sorry we couldn't do more for you.
  11. Run free darling Ray with no more aches and pains. ;) Join in the fun and games with all the others that have gone before you. :p I am thinking of you Nic.
  12. I use a cot mattress and cover it with a blanket or flannelette sheet sewed like a pillow case. A large greyhound can stretch out quiet well on it.
  13. The two greys in Sydney were our lovely Elle (black&white) and Lucy (brindle) who also got her photo taken with Tom Williams.
  14. Have a look at greyhound type rugs. Something made from polar fleece is good to sleep in and they often have a high neck. They just slip over the head and do up with ties. Some of the clever people on here can make them.
  15. Excellent news Keep going in the right direction Jed and you will be out in no time.
  16. Anna I second this you have put into words what I have been feeling since I heard about this horrible event. Get well soon Jane your furbabies need you. I am going to light another candle.
  17. I would just like to thank you all for a great laugh on this wet afternoon. I have greyhounds (purebreeds) and what I call the MMMs (mixed mutt mob) rescues. What would you call a border collie x foxie? I could have a new breed (lol)
  18. Firstly I feel for you this is very stressful for you. I would have the blood tests to rule out any problems in that area and settle your mind I would go with what Tdierikx said and get his eyes checked maybe by an eye specialist. A friends dog went slowly blind at around 7 years and she had some strange issues. As for the weight issue I give our rescues that are underweight some chicken mince as its quite fatty they gain well on it and their coats also improve just introduce it slowly. Good luck
  19. Greyhound (own & foster) Border Collie (own) Mini Foxie (have owned) Rhodesian Ridgeback (own) Bull Arab Coolie Whippet (foster) Beagle and am bound to have a couple more mutts find me
  20. Words are not enough!!! My throughts are with this kind lady who I don't know I am hoping she will recover quickly and that her remaining furkids recover well.
  21. I would recommend a greyhound from a rescue group as they are excellent with children, very tolerant of what kids do to them, are out of the difficult "teenage" phase, happy with a 20-30 minute walk once a day and will take over your couch if you let them. They are an easy care dog (short coat, little doggie smell) and generally very clean. They love to be around people and are quiet affectionate. Don't let an unhappy experience ruin the joy a dog can bring to your family but you are doing the right thing sending an unsuitable dog back sooner rather than later.

Hi Pipsmum I have just came across your post ( having a little spare time over easter ) so better late than never. We have a grey going out on trial on Wednesday who has lived with chooks before he came to us. So they are around. We are currently working on opening a "branch" on the Central Coast as we have been getting quiet a few enquiries from that area and we have an experienced person who is willing to run it and co-ordinate with us in Western Sydney.
