I think my girl Didge was my heart dog. She was the first dog I ever had any 'say' in. I picked her out, I did everything, decided what to feed her. Let her sleep inside (my parents never allowed that at home) I got addicted to dog forums because of her, and learnt so much about the dog world, the good and the bad. She passed away very young and I was devastated. I still can't read the poem from her cremation without tearing up. After losing her I never wanted to own another animal again, because no one could ever live up to her. Esky is a very special girl too. And I love her dearly. I think she is my 'liver' dog though. She keeps me alive. My partner isn't as attached to her though. Which makes things a bit weird I guess. Hopefully that'll change when we're out on our own again

Working/working Line Dogs As Pets
Esky the husky replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mrs Rusty Bucket was saying that if the BC attacked the sheep then it wouldn't be a BC -
Th local sports oval has a road the whole way around it. Its about 85% dirt 15% bitumen. We just do laps around that. It's great because I can ride on the far side of the road and Esky can run on the grass instead.

Why Do People Want To Breed Their Pet Dog?
Esky the husky replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
It makes me sick hearing that these 'vets' are giving breeders a bad name on the radio. We need a pro registered breeder radio show on the air. "Hey ABC check out my broadcasting diploma, can I have a show " -
Obedience Classes - What To Expect
Esky the husky replied to mackenzie11's topic in General Dog Discussion
Good class size! I think agreeing with the training method is the main thing ( do they use positive reinforcement, or check chains etc) If you and your dog look forward to going I think that's the main thing -

Dr. Chris Brown On 7pm Project Tuesday Night...
Esky the husky replied to Fevah's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well I'm glad that the word is getting out there! People might not know where to get pups from registered breeders, but when you search ( breed name) pups for sale in google DOL is the first thing to come up Good starting point methinks! -

What Do Puppy Prices Make You Think Of Breeders?
Esky the husky replied to my_sibe_owns_me's topic in General Dog Discussion
My girl same breed as yours, desexed via keyhole surgery, and all the relevant tests etc etc was $1000 Didn't bat an eyelid at the price. I thought it was fair. -
I'm sure there are some threads on it if you search. But to sum up, crate training is giving the dog an area of his own The crate itself is similar to a cage (although it is not a negative thing) They are either hard crates made of metal or strong plastic or soft crates made of stong fabric similar to that used in tents. The crate should be big enough so that the dog can stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably. But they shouldn't be so big that he can soil it. Dogs wont do their business in their den. It is a very handy thing to have a crate trained dog. Toilet training is easier with a crated dog. If you take your dog on an overnight trip her has somewhere familiar to sleep. He can go into his crate and relax if the kids get too much for him. The crate is a positive place to be not a time out ETA: Have you read Marley and Me? I think it's a must for all future labrador owners

I think you mean yellow lab That is the proper name for the colour Have you looked into adult dogs from a breeder? This could be a good option if you want to bypass the puppy stage. (which could be good in your situation) The dog could be one they kept to show but decided wasn't suitable. Or it could be a more mature one, finished with their show career.

What was Pele's trick?
-
When Esky gets her 1 year vaccination, is it one year from the day she was born, or 1 year from her first vaccs?
-
Wow, I didn't know you could tell so soon I guess you have to watch them grow up too though to see which ones get the right personality for the show ring?
-
What a nightmare! Hopefully the money tempts someone into saying something!!

Harness For Large Dog That Pulls
Esky the husky replied to Bonnie Pup's topic in General Dog Discussion
The Sporn is great. It tightens around the legs when the dog pulls. That plus training Loose leash walking and Esky walks well on a flat collar 99% of the time. The front attaching harnesses are highly recommended by our trainer, and I saw the improvement in the other dogs in our class that used them. If you take your dog into somewhere like Petstock they will help you fit them properly and let you have a test run. Might help you to make up your mind on a front attach or a sporn style. I would not get a regular harness as they are used for pulling.
