  1. unfortunately my dog is one of those that will Destroy a blue tongue. in perth he had several taken off him and he was none too happy about it. they were all alive and i released them just up the road where i presume they came from. bush+river. he found it quite rude when he met a blue tongue that wouldn't just play along... ie agree to be flicked about. he copped a bite on the nose. haha
  2. only new it was on thanks to staffords in need VIC who i have on my Facebook, i rarely listen to the radio. so a big thanks to them -- side note.. i want to punch some of the callers in the head for stupidity...
  3. show is currently on. can be streamed live http://www.abc.net.au/radio/listenlive.htm - only 20 mins remaining pretty sure you will be able to d/l for free from itunes when the show is finished as a podcast. interesting.
  4. spider tends to freak people out when he plays. he plays roughish but its the noise factor that gets people concerned. he is so ridiculously vocal it sounds like he is ripping the other dog to shreds! but since i have had him he has always played like this. it has only really freaked one dog out at a dog park that turned and tried to bite him (same dog tore into another regular soon after causing the need for vet treatment, so im guessing it was that dogs issue?) listening to him with luna is hilarious cause she is dead silent and he is all grrrs and barks
  5. watched the whole thing, for those who didn't it ends with her giving away a few pups to friends she cajoled into taking them and taking back the particularly "bogan" guys pup 'boysie' (then given to yet another friend) cause the dudes mrs kicked him out and gave back the pup... the guys is all wah me and then "at least ill get my 25 pound back" haha yeh right. don't think this idiot of a lady will do it again. i lolled at her stupidity re: the american guy asking about scores... i don't breed.. never plan to breed... don't personally know any breeders and yet i know about these things. all i can do is give this woman a big fat FAIL
  6. i had a "my dogs friendly" episode at the xmas breakup of my obedience club. woman with grey hound. who i had seen have tiffs with other dogs already that morning, came over to our overly timid new dog and displayed all manner of dominant behaviour with her, standing over her pushing into her etc, all the while we are trying to back away with luna the owner is saying oh she's just being friendly!
  7. i just attempted my first lot of xmas photos.. my gawd its hard. those in the know with dlsr - best settings to use aperture and shutterspeedwise? they just aren't turning out how my mind envisions them... that coupled with two very uncooperative dogs lol. when one is doing the right thing,... the other gets up and walks away!!! lol
  8. i've thought about getting one of these but spider has a dislike to anything around his chest be it jackets for rainy weather or various harnesses we've tried, and yes we have tried both the slow and steady treat treat treat approach and just putting it straight on him, both with no avail. the next time you get that product out he backs away and avoids it!
  9. spider vocalises A LOT when playing. it worries some people cause he sounds savage and completely feral lol. but no, he's just a fool. you could do it via youtube.
  10. my dog is one of those rude dogs that would given half a chance (and has) bolt to all the other dogs in the park without a care in the world to jump all over them. hence. he is leashed. he does not have a reasonable recall(despite hours upon hours of training) therefore i will not let him off around other dogs because i know the problems he can cause. sure there was a park in perth before i moved that we went to, but only at certain times with minimal dogs and owners and dogs that had gotten to know us. other owners should be just as intelligent. unfortunately a lot are not.
  11. could always make one yourself out of lengths of wood, hinges(if it needs to fold up) and some carpet mats- all of which you can get from any hardware store.
  12. to my knowledge (and i just moved to the latrobe valley a few months ago.. there aren't many. someone else can probably give you more info.
  13. thanks guys i'll try getting her to hold her position for longer generally as long as i don't move she'll stay in it for around 5 seconds so i'll work on getting that longer. we have only had her a few weeks and she is only my second dog so i'm still very much learning as i go. my other boy came partially trained and we mainly had to work on issues caused by his prior abuse - fear of men, cigarettes hose etc etc etc etc. thanks for the tips - and the vid. CUTE.
  14. so our 8mo pup is a smarty pants for the most part.. well i think so anyway... we recently got her from the pound with NO training. she's very timid when out and about and we'll be heading to check out our local obedience club tomorrow. what i want to know is how on earth do i teach her to stay. i've tried what most of the websites say with getting her into drop or sit and stepping back etc but as soon as i move a foot or toe or arm she;s up and walking towards me. she's learnt drop and sit brilliantly so much so that she will go purely off hand signals now, she's picking up 'leave it' pretty fast.. we just cant get a hand of stay. any suggestions would be appreciated
  15. we're having the same problem at the moment.. though not with a rabbit hutch. our pup (roughly 8mo) has taken to chewing the edges of the deck and the kennel and dragging the kennel around... :|
  16. we lived with another dog for around 2 years... when she passed and we left perth, it was obvious spider was a bit down in the dumps and lonely despite me being home all day... queue discussions.... and oh look i found a pup on the pound site isn't she cute. we should go see them..... pound pup came home.
  17. if anyone can suggest a great vet in the latrobe valley? happy to drive a reasonable distance, we're in newborough.
  18. vets are very important and i don't think you are in any way being anal. in perth we had 3 different vets. (i have rats and cats also) the dog and the cats saw the same female vet very close to my house brilliant with my boy when we first got him as he was afraid of men and over three years he got to love her to the point you could say lets go see tessa(vets name) and he would be very happy about it. we saw 2 different vets for the rats. one VERY experience but also charged a bucket! and the other not as experienced but very willing to learn and would assist in any way he possibly could (down to charging $10 some trips) so we would see the experienced vet for more serious issues and the not so experienced vet for everything else. having just moved to country victoria we are now facing the issue again of seeking vets we like. already been to 3 since being here - 1. cat had UTI treated etc but staff were rude and i wont be returning, 2. pound puppy Luna had her spey and vacc done there, seemed great with the dogs but will not be going there for the rats - we'll see what they are like if we have to return before the next lot of vacc. 3. took a dog in as a favour for someone (this vet is supposedly the great rattie vet in the area) first impression- the vet didn't know what he was doing- took him 15 mins to go and find the vacc. place smelled awful. and seemed unclean. im wondering if it has changed hands recently. the perils of finding a vet you know and trust to see your animals! these are the things we face in a world that seems to be pumping out a load of vets that are very opinionated and set in THEIR ways. My pet. My way.
  19. i found avon valley beef (midland and bassendean) to have good cheap bones. some weeks they were meatier than others but i guess it depends on what butcher was doing them?
  20. we cant leave the bedroom door open cause luna will poop there. any other room in the house no problemo... our bedroom is poop city
  21. spider only got his crate when we were moving over to victoria from WA a few months back(we got it early to get him used to it) and no it has proved very useful with making him feel secure with his eating since we got luna as he is food possesive(due to living with a PITA dog that used to steal his food constantly and was aggressive with her own)
  22. bugger i spent $22 on one just last week for luna!
  23. thought about going to the melb show. as long as you get the top tier seats its 45 i think i read. front row is pretty pricey tho i wonder if you can actually see from the back...
  24. i dont thinkt hey took the photo. i've seen it around for a while but who ever took it. AMAZING
  25. try doing your routine as if you are going out, get in the car and drive it down the road and walk back up and listen. then you can hear exactly what is going on? it'll also help to hear if the spray collar is working when you get it?
