  1. check this site out and read all about the product http://groomersparadise.com/panagenicsshampoo.htm
  2. No because of changed Airline rules regarding transport of dogs /cats and type/size of container etc. If you just want a container for personal use and not air travel you can get them online at various outlets, but because of the airline regulations changing the pet stores are cashing in by marking up or getting way more elaborate travel crates. And many of these still don't make the grade so buyer beware. Also weight is a big factor in calculating the jouney of the animal enclosed so if you have a heavy crate +heavy dog it is a costly exercise.
  3. On an even sadder note many are sold off because that means more $$$ for the owner overseas to Asian countries where some (very few) make it into backstreet type dog racing, however I will let your imagination take over with what happens to most of them and lets just say the bigger the dog the more profit that can be made in the gourmet department And Australians are up in arms over live export of stock animals conditions (cattle and sheep etc)but every month hundreds of DOGS and CATS are exported worldwide from Australia and the biggest importer is the Asian countries, would be very interesting to see what happens to all of these domestic animals. I do know that there are many many legitimate breed clubs in these countries, but NOT ALL the exported DOGS go to reputable homes. I know this will open a pandora's box but not every breeder can ensure that the person they make contact with to send their dogs too is really who they are. I know because I have association with someone that works in one of these countries who deals with illegal racketeering in trade of various commodities (including animals, big market for exotic pets, reptiles etc). Like everything in this world it is all about the almighty Dollar and profit margins, supply and demand etc.
  4. This week our local (Brisbane) Crazy Clark store had same set as shown on the Crazy sales website, $20 same principle as those folding PVC crate boxes you can buy, the ones that flat pack, they are only 31cm high and not much wider when put together, so would think unless you have a smallish/medium dog and a not too high bed these would not work. The ramp that CrazySales have on sale is way better takes up to 50kg weight and has small struts that allows for grip under either ensemble mattress or side rail of bed also brilliant to use in and out of high vehicles etc. I got mine for $40 from Crazy clarks last year they fold up into little carry pack and heavy duty PVC means last well, easily stored and multiple uses I have even used for down contact agility training  Although they have some non slip surface I put a strip of that gripping rubber type material you can buy at cheap stores in rolls for use as drawer liner or placemats etc. (Had posted re this previously but did not have the pics at time) http://www.crazysales.com.au/paws-n-claws-folding-dog-car-ramp.html
  5. Not only did my dog become incontinent he commenced passing blood frantic trip to AH vet -> tests for UTI negative but poor little man was very distressed re the frequent painful urination with all the blood in it another injection sedated him and after 48hours the original injection of the steroid had passed so NO MORE EVER cortisone for this dog. On the topic of the prednisone/cortisone/prednisolone/corticosteriod and any other name it may masquarade under (especially in the vet world), it is a potent anti imflammatory drug settling any tissue inflammation or excessive release of histamine in allergies by reducing the inflammatory response of the specific capillary walls when an allergen is suspected. So basically it is definately targeting smooth muscle which means bladder wall, hence the possibility that if doggie can hold 300mls of urine and wait X number of hours before needing to go, with the dampening down of the sphincter response in the bladder, doggie may find only 100mls and 'gotta go' kicks in, in aging dogs where there is a more likely change happening in this area anyway you get the accidents/dribbles etc. This drug definately triggers a response from the naturally produced cortisol in the adrenal gland, this in turn triggers all the other hormones in the body hence why long term use in humans and dogs can lead to diabetes occuring, it also upsets the balance of salts(blood eletrolytes), and so dogs drink copious amounts and appetites become stimulated so it is a vicious cycle and a drug that should only be used for short term and then only if there is no other alternative. It also causes bone break down (osteoporosis ) in long term and short term high dose use . In humans it has caused psychotic episodes and in animals some have gone from being loving family pets to aggressive monsters - scary
  6. Hope you counted all the washers/nuts to make sure none were ingested - one determined doggie must have been nice and crunchie
  7. Firstly many dogs in an agility environment become very hyped and ready for action, I have seen dogs who are the calmest most loving dog turn into a jekyll and Hyde scenario when put on an agility field with equipment and action etc. At our club we have established ground rules for this very reason and it is a big club with many dogs and handlers and several different class structures there on same night from first night beginners through to advanced competitors etc. Handlers are instructed that all dogs must be crated between runs and when you are walking courses or listening to instructor etc. Any dogs who are particularly problematic ie run aways, snappers (like what happened in your case) go to a "back to basics" class with one on one or small group and do lots of motivation and control handling and must only stay on lead until proven they are once again controllable. If for any reason a dog gets away from a handler a cry goes up "loose dog" whence everyone who might be running their dog on equipment or moving on lead between classes immediately places their dog in a down position with dog facing away from loose dog. Another club use fluro collars with flashing light on them these are put on any dog that needs to be given room when being approached and when out on equipment all other handlers and dogs must be in a designated area, this helps to eliminate any confrontational situations and also allows these dogs to gain confidence in multi dog situations.
  8. 9kg shih Tzu was FED choc cooking drops by my very young daughter in a one for me one for you scenario, as she was totally unaware re chocolate toxicity etc. I came out to see the situation unfolding and by that time most of 200grm packet had been consumed who knows who had the most. dog -> vet -> injection -> result upchuck came home with instructions to watch for this that and the other etc etc, dog seemed ok, within a month following episode we noticed a gradual decline in health status (he was 9 at the time),heart problems suddenly arose, renal failure started and a massive seizure which was horrendous to all of us humans, poor little fellow managed to stay with us for another 3 years but his quality of life was not great, and it was verified through blood tests that the initial cause of this saga was from that chocolate ingestion, obviously the theobromine had taken its toll, a sad way for my then young children to learn about the dangers of chocolate and animals. so now having young grandchildren I have a pictorial chart made up with all the things dangerous to dogs it is on my fridge door and is a constant reminder to them and any other people who look at it, what not to give to dogs. This chart is also helpful http://www.risingwoods.org/OURFAMILY/THEDOGS/knowntoxicfoodsfordogs.htm
  9. Yep Aphra that's why I put my fellow on the paw support omega 3 &6 supplement as well as the capsules for help with arthritis just in case it was pain related and these worked as I trialled off them for 3 months and his symptoms returned.
  10. We did a Xmas card photo shoot last year at our dog club and instead of the Santa which many of the dogs were scared of so didn't make for good pics we had a little mini sleigh for the small dogs to sit on with a nice xmas decoration scarf around neck. bigger dogs got to sit in front of a painted xmas backdrop or do a head through a hole photo which showed them as a reindeer pulling a sleigh full of little doggies. Sorry we will also be up at Caboulture show all w/e and Nudgee is definately off my list of "off lead" venue's having had my small dog attacked (on lead) while moving from car to enclosure and people just let their dogs jump out of cars and go berserk without any regard for those who might have more timid dogs etc. Hope you get a good turn up.
  11. Have small terrier breed dog (Silky X Shih Tzu) about 4 yrs ago he started with this constant feet licking and biting for no apparent reason, I later connected the fact it started at same time as a fairly significant family crisis which emotionally upset me for some time, and he obviously was pinging off my behaviour and in order to get a message to me he would lick, I would yell "Stop", and the cycle continued, I took him to vet he had steroid injection to dampen down the histamine response, malaseb wash to bath and soak his feet in as per the vets instructions weekly for 5 - 10 mins standing in the solution (I used a baby bath). Then he also went onto an oral medication half tablet daily tapering off to 2nd daily I think it was some type of antihistamine. We also changed his diet of dry food to exclude any yeast product, from all the licking and biting initially before it was properly treated he got this serious overgrowth of tissue around his nail beds and this has remained and I find now if I miss trimming his nails or using the Maleseb (only 2 weekly now) we get the licks and he begins to walk very gingerly as nails touch wooden floor and obviously cause him pain. The other time he really went into hyper lick mode was when he had a soft tissue injury to his hip muscle and due to the pain he was in overdrive as soon as he went onto these prescribed tablets for pain it disappeared, so obviously the licking is a learned response to any distress.
  12. Is it old version or new version of Vari crate? Old version had metal windows newer ones are molded with holes for ventilation. I have an older version and took it apart by undoing slide locks on both sides of crate so it became 2 halves then front door simply slides out. Metal grid windows are moulded into crate and do not come out at all.
  13. Vicks vapour rub which is predominantly menthol works very well on dogs and humans to allay effects of bites and stings especially in between pet toes, just a small smear and rub onto site In humans stops ant and mossie bite itch very quickly. Another oldy is Vanilla essence as this neutralises the sting especially bees. As does vinegar and the more expensive commercial product stingose. As for disposing of nest Try using hairspray, you have to be quick give a good blast then move back this quickly stops them flying etc and once immobile you can safely dispose of nest and any remaining larvae.
  14. Same problem with small older dog being chased and 'grabbed ' by tail and ears by my now 10month old poodle pup who is way bigger although not as heavy (6Kg) as the smaller SilkyX (9kg). solution was spraying beautiful smelling dog product eau D colonge onto silky X tail and ears puppy hates the smell and obviously the taste as within a few days of this routine all nipping ceased.
  15. These are excellent and on special at moment for only $22.95 a bargain -> http://www.crazysales.com.au/doggy-steps-deluxe-with-washable-cover-3-steps.html Also I purchased a ramp similar to this one from local Crazy Clark's store they only get them in from time to time but this is same just about $20 more in price it latches onto side of bed and dogs easily walk up and down I have put some non slip grippy pads on to it for extra security. http://www.crazysales.com.au/paws-n-claws-folding-dog-car-ramp.html

  18. Try Wodonga dog rescue Peta on Ph 0407538922 she may be able to help and possible even have contacts in a network to offer a concrete solution of transport ->transfer
  19. Similar story but smaller dog, lucky we have a top level Animal physio 2 hours drive away and I spent 2 months attending with doggles having acupuncture/acupressure/massage/hydrotherapy (heated water)and commenced him on paws capsules (green NZ mussel and other natural extracts) + omeaga 3 &6 supplement. prior to this injury he had NO evidence of arthritis unlike your dog and has now completely recovered. However someone else who does have large breed with similar story to yours also used same treatment and now has her dog back running in agility, the bowel + joint changes were due to an immune disease process and when this was treated with correct immune suppressant medication hey presto dog on top again and has been ever since he is 10yrs old. This site may also be helpful he was recently in australia also does email consult/phone etc http://www.ahh.co.nz/
  20. Anything that I offer with the word "treat" is eagerly munched down. Treats as such are only used for training, as positive rewards. My high level 'treat' is cut up small peices of cooked chicken.
  21. Yep poopy streets are a BIG problem and often those of us who do the right thing are scolded by NON dog owners, there is so much anger out in the community at moment generated by a multitude of things, that unfortuneately sometimes the tinest little thing is the trigger that causes incidents like this. While I certainly don't condone this type of behaviour, at least she didn't ram bike into your OH or dogs so that is one positive.
  22. If you check out the ANKA rules and regs it will explain 6.7 Registration of Associate Dogs – on Associate Register (10/07, 7.11) (Amended 10/10, 5.11) 6.7.1 As from 1 January 2008, it is compulsory PRIOR to the registration of an Associate Dog on the National Database, that the application to register such dog is accompanied by a Sterilisation Certificate. 6.7.2 The dog to be permanently identified (such as Microchip) and the permanent identified number to be recorded on the Sterilisation Certificate. 6.7.3 The breed is to be recorded as ‘Associate’ with a number assigned by the ANKC Ltd Member Body and only the following details are to be recorded on the National Database: name (one word only) sex - indicated only as either neutered or spayed microchip number date of birth (if known) colour Note: The breed or cross breed may be recorded in the notes field for further reference. 6.7.4 The ANKC Ltd Member Body will produce an Associate Register Certificate for an Associate dog, which indicates the above details. Basically many of the dogs that owners wanted to do agility /obedience and now rally O and Dancing with dogs were either purchased as pets with no papers or papered and desexed due to possible genetic problems that breeder has declared to new owner, or as in my case a dog that while he has 2 papered parents and a little mishap in the breeders backyard resulted in a unwanted X breed situation (definately a genuine mistake and not a BYB), so he was registered on this Associate section and has competed and done very very well in the past 6 years. Oh and owner must be a member of the State body to which application is made to register the dog with. So Dogs QLD or Dogs NSW etc
  23. 2 dogs (a) Male, Neutered, ANKA registered on Associate competed in QLD in ANKA obedience trials, moved on at 5yrs to ADAA agility(way more comps is only reason and also proximity to train at a specific club), there is no requirement to have dog desexed just ruling that NO Bitch in season is permitted to compete or be on grounds or in vicinty of competition (for obvious reasons). (b) Female full ANKA registration currently showing, will do obedience and agility possibly when older and desexing will be considered when show career completed.
