  1. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, the breed sub forum only had individual breeds. I'll try to be as brief as possible. For the past year or so I've wanted a new dog. I've researched two of my favourite breeds the most, the BC and the Aussie. Before I discovered the Aussie I was absolutely obsessed with BCs. They are athletic, highly intelligent, loyal. Everything I'm looking for in a dog... But then, I started researching Aussies. I have been leaning towards Aussies more. Unlike BCs it sounds like Aussies have an off-switch, and tend to bond with one person (which is perfect for me), they sound goofy, athletic and intelligent as well. There's just something about them that stands out for me. The thing is, I have only met a handful of Aussies (..2 or 3 to be exact) and I only saw them walking with their owners. I know some people hate the whole "Border Collie vs. Aussie" debate, but I had to ask. I've seen BCs doing agility and they seem to be lightning fast. I haven't seen many Aussies though. Are they as athletic and as fast as BCs? (probably a silly question) If I get an Aussie I want to compete in a dog sport. Possibly even obedience. The only thing that I am concerned with is that I read that some Aussies can be dominant. I'm not exactly a hard person and have never really had a dominant dog. Is this just with some Aussies? ... anyway, I think I'm rambling now. So I will ask you Aussie or BC lovers, what makes you love your breed? And what exactly makes these breeds "different" then each other? Cheers!
  2. Sounds interesting LOL, I've only ever seen pig ears.
  3. That's why we stopped feeding her other bones. I wonder why a lot of dogs seem to be fine with roo bones though.
  4. Indi (20 month old beagle x cocker spaniel) has always been bad with bones, especially when she was a pup. She'd eat the bone and then throw it all up a few hours later. Whether it be a lamb bone, beef bone ect. We figured out that she absolutely LOVES roo bones and they don't seem up upset her stomach. I don't know why she throws up the other kinds though. Could be it be because of the marrow? Also, do you have any suggestions for good cuts of raw meat to spoil the pups with occasionally? :D
  5. Our family has 2 un-desexed bitches. There are only occasional growls when my younger dog annoys my other one (wanting to play) but that's about it. I've never had a problem with them. Before that we also had 2 desexed bitches and also had no problems. We've never had males... But I want to get one one day.
  6. I heard something about the glue and rubber on the balls... Apparently it does something to the teeth but it would be interesting to get more opinions. My dog chews them up within minutes so I don't give them to her anymore.
  7. Random question of the day. Is your dog scared of anything? Our dogs are pretty good, they aren't scared of lawnmowers, vacuums, loud noises ect like a lot of dogs. Instead my dog is absolutely petrified of... feathers. Of all things to be scared of!! She nearly jumps a mile when she sees one or smells one. What about your dogs? ;)
  8. There's plenty of puppies for sale: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/puppie...-toy.asp?state= You can expect to spend a decent amount if you want a well-bred healthy pup.
  9. I seen this posted the other day. It's definitely creative. I wouldn't do it though because my dog has skin allergies.

  11. Hahaha!! My Jack Russell is pretty lethal when she lets one rip and it's usually when she's laying on the bed with me. It's funny because you never hear her when she lets one go but you can always tell when it's her.
  12. I would love to meet a Toller as well! I don't really know much about them but they are gorgeous dogs. LOL, my beagle makes a grunting sound too... especially when she's excited or waiting for food.
  13. Ohh, awesome video sas! I subscribed to you on Youtube. That sounds like a good idea Corvus! I might try that. We had a breakthrough tonight after dinner! I got Indi to go backwards in the kitchen. It's hard to explain what I did, but I kind of dragged my feet quickly and walked towards her so she didn't have time sit. I'm going to continue this tomorrow but make a corridor so she goes reverses in a straight line.
  14. The first time I put a no-pull harness on Ava, there was an instant change. She ran to the end of the lead and went "WHOA! What was that?". It was a very pleasant walk! I consider myself a relatively competent trainer, but loose leash walking in the presence of both of my dogs at once has me stumped. The harness allows them to actually get walked while we work on focus in the meantime. That's what I walk her on. I saw a change instantly as well but then she got used of it. We are making progress slowly though. I haven't walked her for at least a week because I've been sick and it's been absolutely freezing outside. Lazy, lazy owner lol.
  15. You can try every collar or harness out there and I guarantee there probably won't be much of a change. It's not about the tool being used it's about training your dog not to pull. My beagle pulls really badly and I am working with her little by little and she has improved a bit... She's just so excitable the moment we go outside.
  16. I am so very sorry about your loss. She sounded like such a sweetheart. ;) R.I.P. Sally.
  17. Ahh, thanks for the advice everyone! I might try to teach her it in the hallway. Lol, Kavik that's funny how your dog was targeting the tables. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know how we go.
  18. Andisa, that's the video I actually watched last night. It helps but doesn't explain what to do if she lays down or sits.
  19. I want to teach my dog to back up or "walk backwards". How do I go about this? I can train her with or without a Clicker. I have tried it by taking a step forward so she moves backwards but she just sits or lays down straight away! How can I teach this without her sitting or laying down?
  20. Wow, I'm glad no one got hurt... That's horrible. Hopefully they catch him.
  21. I can't wait to see this movie, it looks good! Dromana is about 2 hours away from me but I'll see if I can make it. It would be AMAZING to meet some danes, I haven't seen very many in my life time.
  22. Yes, sometimes but it's mostly my beagle x that does. I was watching an episode of It's Me or the Dog on the computer the other night and there was a GSD on there who was growling and barking. Both of my dogs woke up straight away (they were sleeping on my bed) and ran to the window and started going ballistic. Mind you this was at nearly 3AM. Another thing that happened a few months ago was when we got our new plasma tv. You know how there's a screensaver on the TV when the DVD player is left on for a while, and the DVD logo bounces around the screen? Indi was laying there watching it; she was almost hypnotized... and then she suddenly leaped at the TV and nearly knocked it over!!!

    Must See

Wow, that almost looks fake haha. I've never seen a dog do that before.
