  1. I think the best point to start with is to talk to them (even if you do not want to) and speak about how it would be best for both sides to have a new fence put up.. then if they are hostile and disagree you have facts stating you attempted to converse with them but they were uncooperative.. Is your landlord paying for the fence or have you said you would pay? it is property maintenance (and tax deductible for him/her) and you should not have to pay a cent, if you are sure you will stay there for a while offering to pay a little as a gesture of goodwill should go down well.. I have negotiated roller shutters on my house and paid for half (it definately keeps landlords happy and they are more inclined to agree).. If you have a builder that deals with fences close to you or in your family it might pay to have him write a short note about the condition of the fence. All the best, I hope this doesnt become difficult for you.
  2. You will have to look at the Fencing Act... there are A LOT of rules about fencing.. do they own their house? You will need to get an expert to say that the fence is failing if you want to replace it and then they still have the right to disagree.. you cannot put anything that adds height to the fence or anything they will be able to see as it is a breach of the Act.. good luck and hope your dog stays safe..
  3. And in my experience Sandra its the scared cornered unsociable dogs that "fight" or "attack"..
  4. I'm confused about you saying that you did not want them to spend money getting health checks from the "breeders" but then you asked about what you should be talking to your vet about in terms of health checks, you'll loose out on a bit of money buying the "cheaper' product as you will have to get these done out of your pocket and you will probably be in and out of the vets frequently for consultations seeing as you're getting him/her so young. . As soon as you have your pup its going to be too late as the "breeders" will jet off overseas leaving you with either an ok pup or a very expensive one with problems...I'd be researching the problem with taking the pup so early and really preparing myself for what is coming... Edited to add: I thought you had written you had spent $300 on the dog itself not the toys, doesn't really change my post but now I am hoping you didn't spend a fortune on a byb puppy.
  5. Had a lady with a CKCS puppy that asked our vet if there was any advantage to it.. (no papers not even limited) vet straight out said no.. she then said, oh but I know people that would love a puppy so it was like she covered up her initial "concern" with her real thoughts..making money.. I told her not to, I told her about the hard work involved in delivery and raising and finding suitable homes, I also referred her to this forum so that hopefully she is reading a thread like this (doubtful)... why are so many people jumping on this?
  6. I have pet insurance for my dobe, she is 14 weeks and she has broken a toe and had surgery already... I have medibank gold insurance and it has pretty much already paid for itself! Recommended.. although you do have to fork out to start with then you get the cash back so having a bank account sounds like a good idea!
  7. Breed matters sure, but just as people have been quick to label different dog breeds so I have I, putting most of the swfs I meet into the "horrible" category and this I believe is from owners constantly encouraging their cute, skittish, scared behaviour.. I think the onus these days is mostly on the owners, dogs have come a long way and not all of them have kept their original characteristics and attributes..
  8. Sorry just re read, sounded harsh I apologise, just worried about the poor young pup!
  9. I encountered a lady like that at puppy pre school...I do NOT want to make this about docking but she had a "groodle" or something and she went off at me for having my dog docked. I asked her what her breed was (knowing full well what is was) and when she replied I just said "ohhh so a mutt then" (because I wasn't in the mood for the docking conversation)... I think owners of dogs are always having to defend their dogs in any way possible but in my experience of "designer dogs" they are getting inbred and do not make better pets, its just utter shit...
  10. You got sucked in by a byb, no loving nice breeder would let their pups go that early the Sire sure sounds old??.... any way, my vet worms my pup with endoguard and I have had the pro heart injection. Good luck to you.
  11. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-a...3-1226029561491 Hope he gets the maximum fine imagine that........
  12. Maybe someone was trying to steal its food.. Nah ok sorry bad joke I was attempting to cut the tension, hope the owners treated it correctly and it wasn't an inbred byb puppy... the demand for labs and grs as "family pets" has greatly increased the statistics of dog breed attacks, yep lab is on par with dobermanns .. naww dobies ...anyway I think we will see a rise of attack in any breed that is "common" and "commonly bred" by bybs so unfortunately in the near future "family pets" may be classed as "aggressive" purely because of people wanting to make a quick buck and choosing to breed the dog that everyone wants but poorly...
  13. Thanks Bisart! I'll try that and congrats on the breeder of the year!
  14. aussie sheps, german sheps, vizslas and dobes or any dog with rolls (bullmastiffs, frenchies, boxers etc). I am not particularly fond of curly fluffy dogs where you cannot see their eyes.
  15. yes over 2 years I meant to write within three.. I think you should have to obtain a permit to breed from dogs.. any sign of this ever happening?
  16. Do you think I am out of line? I am from a smaller city and there is a girl I used to know that had a lab and a rotty and has bred them together 5 times in the past 2 years. I saw photos of the latest litter on facebook and asked her *why* she doesn't desex her animals and continues to breed. Now I am not exaggerating the backlash I got not only from her swearing her head off and what not but about 120 others also commented on the photo telling me she can do what she wants and that I'm a stuck up city girl now and blah blah (still lots of swearing). Should I have not said anything at all? I can't keep quiet when its something I feel so passionately about. I'm super upset that there are so many bybs that cannot be punished for breeding their dogs too regularly and giving them up at 6 weeks etc. I'm also pretty bummed that out of 120 comments not one person thought what she was doing is wrong. How are we ever going to ban pups being sold from bybs to petshops if no one understands or cares about why it is wrong. Needless to say next time I visit my parents (still in the town) I might have to wear body armor!
  17. I would put my dogs life before human life but in doing so I would face jail time for "failing to give assistance" and then my dog wouldnt have me any way....
  18. Because animal life regardless if you agree or not is not equal to human life. (well not in Law, but it sure as hell is to me!!!!!)
  19. Why was the ops mum walking the dog if she is weak bahaha seriously? Why was the weak old man taking the baby for a stroll if he is *weak*? If babies are so much more important you should be telling him off haha
  20. And if it were a human trying to snatch the baby would you expect the op to go and help? Haha no way! On another note I wonder if the dog owner got fined or if the dogs got destroyed???
  21. What I don't understand is why dog lovers seem to tear each other apart in this forum.. There are few of us in society we should be helping each other and the thing is its not constructive criticism most of the time here, it outright mean what some people feel that can say over the internet but in a place where one shares stories about their dogs etc good and bad to be shot down so rudely, there won't be anyone left that wants to post and our "community" will be shot to shit..
  22. What if one suffers from misanthropy? If there were a lot of other people (childless and dogless) on the scene then why are we expecting the op to have done more than she did..she is completely justified and I would've done the same thing.. If were to "shame" anyone it is the lady who let her dogs escape from the car.. Anything can happen walking down the street it was wrong place at the wrong time for the lot of them.
  23. Get yourself some help. Full of excuses. Find someone who has a "can do" attitude to take your dog, its obvious you won't get over it, you are very negative and whilst I sympathize I don't think you are taking any of the heartfelt and solid advice in your stride. Sorry for being harsh but it will be better for the dog if you don't believe in yourself..
  24. I keep letting other peoples stupid, unethical, irresponsible dog owning ways affect my every day life and feelings...I am at the point where I do not know if I can live around people anymore.. GRR Poor little pups and poor overbred bitch... they make me sick...
  25. I purchased my dog from interstate after researching and *emailing* about 6 perspective breeders..the pup I chose to buy came from a lady that was very blunt over email but asked for my phone number and after giving it to her she proceeded to call me and and ask me questions and fill me in over the phone, she was professional, sweet, helpful, informative and she sprung me questions that I had no choice but to answer honestly (completely different from email).. I suppose some breeders (and I would be like this) would like to hear your voice... if they are busy they will not reply, if you are serious, you will call..(some will state whether they wish to be contacted by email or phone, anytime they had a "puppy form" on their websites that I filled in they would call me). I had breeders that sent me huge 2 page detailed emails that I was very keen on but then when I went to phone them they were hard to reach.. Some may be out of the Country or on holiday, their internet may be down, they could be at dog shows, they could work nights, they could be sick etc.. please call before you write them off because they do not reply to emails.. and whilst your email was lovely, it seems like a few back and forth emails will have to flow.. when I sent mine I would tell them my name, age, dog experience, why I had chosen the breed and in particular them as a breeder.. when I wanted the dog, what I wanted the dog for and what I could offer the dog, if I had owned the breed before.. I also asked extra things that were important to me like if they would take the dog back if for some reason I could not keep it anymore and what breeder support they will give, what guarantees they offered etc... and hey, some replied about two weeks after explaining that they were away etc. If they accept enquires about puppies I do not see why they would not reply to an email unless they prefer to be phoned or they think that you had not offered enough information.. Good luck, breeders (good ones) do have a strict screening process and like I said before I probably would because even the best puppy purchasers on paper can be horrible owners.. don't give up, may I suggest not writing (I have not received a reply) maybe just ask if they received your first email, or call them and in the event of no answer email them saying tried to call today would be appreciative if you could call me on xxxx in the interim I will keep trying you..
