I pay them $42 a month for two dogs.

Don't hold your breath waiting for that company to process a claim. My claim has been in for almost 4 weeks. When I phoned they claimed I did not have a current policy with them. I had the policy document in front of me. When we sorted that out they said they had received no claim from me. I told them the claim was sent by registered mail and I had a signature of receipt. They then acknowledged they did have my claim and they would phone me in a few weeks to advise me of the progress (or not). I suspect they will find a reason to try to dispute the claim. I doubt they will call so I'll phone them in a couple of weeks and I daresay we will have much the same conversation. Evidently they have an internal stuff up of their policy numbers. I have 2 policies with them and when they expire I won't be renewing with them.

Another vote to bring him inside the house.

The 6 weeks is in addition to the 3 weeks they have already had all the paperwork.

I agree RottyLover. It took me three telephone calls, each with a 10 minute wait on their recorded message system plus an angry email to get someone to return my calls and when they did the woman didn't have a clue. I submitted my claim 3 weeks ago and rang yesterday to check the status. She not only insisted there was no such policy number though I had the policy document in front of me, she also said they hadn't received my claim. I'd sent it by registered post and had a signed receipt from them. She was about to blow me off when I told her I had a signed receipt. She eventually searched for the policy number via my name and address and proceded to tell me the policy number was one I'd cancelled 6 years ago. It was for my deceased dog and the policy wasn't with their company. It seems the underwriter supplies aged records to insurance companies. She kept insisting this cancelled policy number was correct after I told her the dog was deceased and the policy was cancelled 6 years earlier. By then I was angry and repeated the dog was dead - did she understand dead...and would she stop talking over me and listen for a second. Once I overcame the hurdle of her stating no policy existed and no claim was received, it was established they did receive my claim and the policy number mix up was an internal issue. I asked when the claim would be processed. Was told they would contact me in about 6 weeks. Sure they will! I'll probably have to go through the same thing again with them. I expect they'll do their best to deny the claim but the vet and the specialist supplied me with detailed documentation of everything that took place including all medication and date and time of day it took place. I wrote a covering letter and enclosed all documentation (after copying everything) so it will be difficult for them to refuse to honour the policy. When dealing with this lot I think it's a good idea to register all correspondence and keep a copy of everything you send them. If I didn't have proof and receipt numbers I would have no proof that I did send in the claim or that they did receive it. Guess who won't be renewing both my policies with them when the year is up?

I'm using Malacetic Otic for one of my Cavs who gets yeasty ears. This is the best ear cleaner I've used. I was using 1:50 Malaseb but the Malacetic Otic is having better and quicker results.

If the 'breeder' of these pups is willing to sell two puppies from the litter to a novice owner.......Run away as fast as you can and find an ethical registered breeder.

Large Straining Dog (march Update)
cavNrott replied to spottychick's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Oh, I truly understand your fear of dentists. When I have a dental appointment fear keeps me awake for most of the night before...and this is just for a scale and clean. Every time I visit the dentist I remind him of my fear and he tells me I'm an easy patient because I remain perfectly still. Of course I do! I'm too terrified to move a muscle. I've been going to the same dentist for 12 years. I've had major work done such as crowns, root canals due to an abscess etc., This dentist has never caused me any pain at all. It doesn't stop my irrational fear though. You must go. Without dental treatment the root of the loose tooth could die, then you'll really be in trouble and you stand a good chance of losing the tooth. Dentistry really is painless these days. Trust me Having it fixed won't hurt anything like it did when Buddy knocked it loose. -

What fantastic news Thanks for the update Spottychick. I was wondering how it was going with you and Buddy and was rather afraid to ask :D Great work on your part and hopefully now Sam is able to control Buddy with the harness on she'll spend a lot more time with him. Hope your poor front tooth is ok. -
I have an old Rottweiler who is too frail to get into the bath. I line up 5 buckets of warm water to rinse the shampoo out and I use them all. Use jug to pour the rinse water over your dog. Why tip a bucket of water over him if it distresses him? There is no way you can rinse a dog thoroughly with only one bucket of water. I add white vinegar to the last bucket of water to ensure no shampoo is left in the coat.

I'm sorry for your loss of Guiness. -
How does the cover keep your dogs safe, CavNrott ? I didn't know about the BSB. The one i bought from Autobarn was very tough material wise, but the straps/clips were very weak. Having said that, i should've done what you suggested and not clipped it together until the dogs were seated. In the end, as much as i hate them, i bought a canopy for my ute. That solved all the problems of smell, slobber, hair and safety. RottyLover, firstly they're safe because they can't fall off the back seat and secondly they're secured to the seat belts through the little spaces in the BSB. They are where I put them and can't be flung around in the car.
-
You are entitled to your opinion. If you know a better one available for a fraction of the price, perhaps you might share that knowledge? My BSB is close to 8 years old and going strong. I'm very happy with it and said so. Same here, mine's almost 9yo and has coped with big dogs all those years with no sign of wear and tear. I do hope SB will come back and set those of us she deems 'ridiculous' on the right track. Way to go SB 6 posts and you're already insulting some members.

As you posted a second time and quoted your own post you must be really sure of your facts. Have you tested a number of brands of back seat covers for dogs? Maybe you can tell us which brands on the market are better than a Backseat Buddy for a fraction of the price. How many brands have you tested and for which breed of dog? I'm really interested to know. If you know which are the perfect options could you do us a favour and educate us please. You might save a few members some money if they can get the same quality as a BSB for $50-60 max. Clearly a Chihuahua would not require the same strength or quality in a dog safe seat cover as a couple of Rottweilers would. My Backseat Buddy is to keep my Rottweilers safe, I didn't buy it to protect the seats, a rug could do that job but it wouldn't keep my dogs safe. I am of the belief that if you want quality then you have to pay for it. As we often hear, 'you get what you pay for'. People are not 'ridiculous' for spending their own money on whatever they wish to spend it on. It's their money and they can spend it on whatever they like.
-
I've had my Backseat Buddy for a few years now and it has stood up to the test of time carrying heavy Rottweilers. Rottylover: I don't connect the buckles to the front seats until the dogs are already in the car. I have the buckles/straps attached to the back seats and straighten the cover over the back seat, the dogs climb in and hop onto the seat - then I attach the buckles to the front seats. If big dogs had to make the leap onto the cover from the ground when the straps and buckles were already connected to the front seats I can see how their weight would break them. My son has an Autobarn one for his Rottweiler and he uses the same method as I do. His cover is still going strong 3 years later with no sign of wear in the straps or buckles.

See if you can buy Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine. It's brilliant at detangling matts. You work it in with your fingers and brush, brush, brush. I have 2 Cavaliers, one with a big heavy coat and one with a fine coat. The fine coat matts more easily whereas it's unusual to find a matt on the heavy coated boy. If I ever ever find one on the big coated boy, it's in the fine hair behind the ears. I brush them daily and give them a comb through every second day so we don't have many problems with matts. if I do find one its only a small one and the Cowboy Magic untangles it. Have never had my dogs clipped. I trim with a good pair of scissors.

Urgent Help Required For Puppy With Parvo
cavNrott replied to bella_bear's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Excellent news Bella Bear. I think Cellfood is a great product. I've been using it for a couple of years and always give it to any dogs here who are unwell. How is the little miss doing today? -
Did the cats have fleas before you brought the puppy home? Unless you treat all animals in the house with a good quality a flea preventative you will not be able to control the flea problem. It will get worse. You need to flea bomb every room in the house and wash all bedding, particularly the animals bedding. Preventing the problem in the first place is always easier and less expensive than trying to rid the animals and the house of fleas. I'm sorry your little puppy is so sick and I hope you can get some help for him today. He sounds very unwell indeed. Dyzney that is an incredibly kind and generous offer. You have plenty of good karma coming your way.

In quiet thoughts we live again the way it used to be. Thinking of you. Arghhhh spelling. Thanks Maggie, I should have picked up on it.

Large Straining Dog (march Update)
cavNrott replied to spottychick's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The Easy Walk harness straps are adjustable so would probably fit him. Likewise the Gentle Leader head collar is adjustable. The GL head collar is less cumbersome than the Halti but I prefer the Halti. I think the dogs prefer the GL collar. Not sure if the size 4 Halti would be too big. They need to fit snugly around the neck. As you know, Halti's are also adjustable. I was thinking if this dog is superdog as he sounds to be, I would put both chokers on him. I doubt he'd be able to break two of them. The owner wouldn't use choke chains to tether him though..I hope. -

What does this dog weigh? Would he be bigger than a large Rottie. I have an Easy Walk harness in the members market place at the moment. This harness has the ring at the front. I did buy the sensible harness first (it's around here somewhere) but found the Easy Walk Harness far easier to put on the dog and it's a bit sturdier. It's large size. The dog I bought it for was a male Rottie of 49kg and I tried it on him to make sure it fitted ok but I never used it to walk him. I got him walking nicely on a martingale. I also have two heavy gauge choke chains I'm happy to donate if this boy is as strong as he sounds. Also have a large Gentle Leader head collar and a size 4 Halti I would also be happy to donate. The Halti has been used once and the Gentle Leader is new. -
There you go. Ams had already posted the link earlier for which I'm grateful because I have no idea how to post a link and was just about to give it a shot when I saw Ams had done it.
