Brooke I hope it all works out for you and I wish you all the best. Now that the breeders are aware they will hopefully offer to assist.

Pancreatitis Hospitalisation

I am so very sorry your boy had to leave you. You did everything you could possibly do for him. How heartbreaking for you. I will light a white candle for Ralphie tonight. Rest In Peace Ralphie -
I agree. I've never had a food aggro dog and I've never messed with their food. I put the bowls down, they watch me until I give them the ok to eat and I leave them to eat in peace. My Cavaliers eat in their crates with doors open and the Rottweiler eats in 'her place' in the kitchen. The dogs do not interfere with eachothers food. Once they've finished their meal they wait in place for me to give them their bones. IMO the reason a dog guards its food is because it fears it will be stolen from them. By taking food away you are confirming their fears.

Pancreatitis Hospitalisation

I have no experience with pancreatitis but I wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and I wish Ralphie all the best. I'll light a candle for him. -
Does anyone else find this annoying "I can't be bothered actually READING the 16 pages on this topic, but I'll throw in my 2 cents' worth anyway" HAD you read the 16 pages, you would know that the OP has gone to considerable trouble & expense to contain his dogs, wheras his neighbours seem to have done nothing. not only do i find it annoying i also find it rude, lazy and arrogant...i prefer people to keep uninformed opinions to themselves, especially if it is easy for them to become informed...you know, like reading all the posts +1

Thanks for the update SecretKei, I was wondering how it all went with Kei. Good to hear he's ok. I had no idea Bronson had an extra rib until the surgeon showed me the xray and explained it to me. Had I felt this hard lump before this happened I would have been panic stricken. The possibility of it being an extra rib would never have occurred to me. Bronson was a tad overweight so it wasn't evident because it was covered by a layer of fat. Now he's at his ideal weight it's easy to feel it. Gotta say it feels a bit weird and I'm very glad I know what it is.

Read your policy book and find out exactly what they consider to be an accident. Not many things are covered or considered to be an accident apart from the very obvious. I am with Bow Wow Meow. My boy ruptured a disk in his spine early December. They consider this to be an illness rather than an accident. I have the dogs covered for accident and illness with a $250 excess. The dog ran out the door into the yard first thing in the morning and had gone only a couple of metres when he suddenly fell in a screaming heap and was paralysed from the shoulders down. The result was a myelogram and a laminectomy at the specialist centre. Since this dog had never had a sick day in his 5 1/2 yo life I would have thought this would be an accident. According to them it's an illness so I am not enitled to make any future claim for anything to do with his spine/back. Who knows what they will deem to be part of a spinal injury. I wish you luck in getting a quick reimbursment of your claim. My claim took them 3 months to process and that was only after I mentioned the Ombudsman. After 2 months and a number of phone calls I told them I would contact the Ombudsman. They paid out part of the claim that same day. The remaining part of the claim was still not paid until this week when again I mentioned the Ombudsman. The claim was paid that same afternoon. If you have any problems with them 'Ombudsman' is the magic word.

Ok I'll ask. How do you spray the environment with tablets? Are these tablets mean to be disolved in water to turn them into a solution that can be sprayed.

VetProducts Direct sell Aquadent online $15.87 for 250ml and also another product called Pet Kiss 250ml for $8.68 that does much the same thing. Shipping and handling fee is $4.45 -
My 5 1/2yo Cavalier boy had a laminectomy 2 months ago for a ruptured disc. In the course of the xrays it was found that he had an 'extra' rib on the right side. It sounds exactly as you describe in your boy. He has this only on the right side of his body. Now that I know it's there I can feel it easily. The surgeon who did the laminectomy assured me that there are no problems with this and it's not as rare as we think it is.

Cowanbree cook some skinless chicken breasts in a small amount of water and make a broth with the liquid and very finely shredded chicken. That's the only thing that tempted my girl to eat on day 3. The vet was getting worried because Dana wouldn't eat. Once she ate the chicken broth her appetite returned. Because she lost 15cm of intestine I was careful with her diet for a few weeks so the chicken broth with a small quantity of vegies steamed and blended to a pulp was her staple diet for a while.

I know that sickly sweet unpleasant smell. I bet she has a yeast infection in her ear. My Cav boy had it last year. His ears had no discharge or obvious sign of infection either. Once you smell a yeasty ear you will recognise the smell for evermore. The vet prescribed Surolan drops and the ear was perfect when we went for a recheck in 8 days. Now if I think I can smell the slightest hint of yeast I use Malacetic Otic and that does the trick. I bought it online when someone recommended it for yeasty ears. I smell both my Cavs ears every couple of days now just to make sure all is well. I agree with Gretel about the shots. I wouldn't use the heartworm one at all and definitely not at the same time as the parvo/distempter/hep vaccination. It's too much for the system to cope with.

My Cavalier girl had surgery for an obstruction when she was 15 months old. She had some of her intestine resected. She was in hospital for 4 days. She wouldn't eat for the vet nurses so I used to go there 3 times a day to feed her. She recovered well and has had no problems in the 3 years since her surgery. She had eaten loquats that fell in my yard from the tree in the property behind mine. The loquat stones caused the blockage. Now I net my yard every loquat season though she is probably big enough now to pass the stones but I don't want to take any chances. efs

Dogs Fighting Over Food *help*
cavNrott replied to Tim.duncan's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You mention the dogs food piles. These dogs should be eating out of their own food bowls, not from piles of food on the ground. Buy two food bowls and feed your dogs from their own bowl. Place each bowl in the same place every day so each dog knows where to sit and wait for their meal. Food lying around on the ground belongs to no one and is there for the taking. As a food issue has developed you need to strictly supervise mealtimes. Your dogs probably need to be tethered when they eat or feed them inside in separate rooms to prevent them from stealing eachothers food. They've learned their food is not safe because it's been taken away before so it's likely it will happen again. Taking food away after you have given it to them teaches them to guard their food. There's no reason to expect the older dog to back down when the young one tries to steal his food. He should be allowed to eat in peace. Stop the younger dog from approaching the older one until he's finished eating or you'll be paying vet fees to patch up their injuries. I don't interfere with my dogs food when they're eating. They sit in front of their bowls until I give them the ok to eat. They're fed in the kitchen and they don't approach eachothers food bowls. They're not bothered by people around them or by me putting my hand near the bowl to drop in something extra (never to take food away). I've never taken food away so they know their food is safe. -
You had better take her to the vet and have her checked for ringworm. Are the sores scaley around the outside? If so they probably are ringworm.

Bow Wow Meow denied having received my claim when I rang them 3 weeks after I sent it in. That was until I told them I had a signed receipt that they had received my documents by registered mail. They immediately 'found' the claim but said it had only arrived that day. Told them the receipt was dated 3 weeks earlier. Their BS never stops. I've kept a copy of everything I've sent them including my covering letter to explain all enclosed documents in two or three syllable words in the hope they are able to comprehend. Surely all their staff can't be as dense as they appear to be. When I first phoned them they told me I didn't have a policy with them though I had the policy document in front of me. From then on it's all been on a downhill slide.
-
I'm with Bow Wow Meow and the only claim I've made since the policy was taken out was sent to them in December and they still haven't paid up. I won't be renewing my dogs policies with them. They said the reason for the delay is that the Vet Specialist Centre hasn't sent my dog's previous history to them. I've explained there is no previous history. My dog had emergency surgery for a ruptured disc and he's never been there before so they can't provide a previous history that doesn't exist. I've explained the nature of a Specialist Centre to them in that they accept patients only on referral from a vet. This seems to be a concept they can't understand even when I compared it to the situation with human medical specialists. Insurance Ombudsman will be next if they keep delaying payment.

That's the way I collect a urine specimen too. A small jar doesn't freak the dogs out and they don't see it coming.

Wormers - Do Worms Become Resistant?
cavNrott replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Are you a registered breeder and if so why are u sending puppies to a pet shop :D Agreed. Why breed dogs if you don't have buyers for them? :D There's no way you can know where the pups you produced will end up or what kind of owners they will have. Poor little puppies -
I'm so very sorry for your loss of Rocco. Rest in Peace beautiful boy

If I recall Chelsea is a small breed so more likely to be luxating patella.
