  1. Juz, there is a Rottweiler owners thread on this forum. Please join us, there are quite a few of us here. You'll find it in General discussion in the main menu, click on sub forums and you'll find us. I understand all too well about having a dedicated puller. I've only ever had one of them and it sure was a steep learning curve for me. I used a Halti until I gained control of her and then switched to a Martingale collar. I used to put her through her obedience commands in the driveway for 5 minutes before we started our walk to remind her who was in charge. I had a brilliant private trainer come in to help train my pulling girl, your boy's behaviour sounds very similar to hers. Beautiful temperament but very hyperactive. I lost my girl to bone cancer 15 months ago, she was only 7yo. I miss her every day. Pop into the Rottweiler owners thread, you will be made very welcome in there.
  2. It is the nature of a Rottweiler to be with their people. They do better as inside dogs. He jumps at the doors when he can see you inside while he's outside because he's a puppy and he wants to be with you. The reason he's hyper inside is because he is excited to be there. It's a novelty for him as he's not often allowed inside to interact with the family. Close the doors to the childrens rooms so he can't get in there. Dog proof your house so he can't get things he isn't supposed to have. Restrict his access to certain areas in the house. Put a large rug in a corner and teach him that is his 'place' where he is to lie quietly. Always, without exception supervise dogs and children when they're together, inside or out in the yard. Slippery floors are not good. He's likely to blow a cruciate ligament. Put rugs and runners on the floor in the areas he's allowed access. I've been lucky enough to have this breed for 25 years and they've all been inside dogs who respect boundaries. They live inside from the day I bring the puppy home. I have one lying quietly at my feet at the moment. My dogs are trained to walk, not run, inside the house. Running is for outdoors. Did you get this puppy from an ethical breeder? Do his sire and dam have all health certificates? Did the breeder know the puppy would be an outside dog? Good to hear you're taking him to obedience classes so you learn how to train him. Rottweilers are easy to train and you'll be surprised at how quickly they catch on, usually a lot quicker than we do. Consistency is the key to training.
  3. What great news Bella Bear. She sounds like she has certainly turned the corner and is well on her way to coming home.
  4. Jodie, Merry Christmas to you and a special gentle Christmas hug to Ollie the wonder dog.
  5. rmc: I feel your pain, I know how it is. Callie's candle is glowing here, a beautiful white light for her. Godspeed little girl, you were very much loved.
  6. I didn't think we had ticks in Melbourne, at least not in the 'burbs.
  7. Bella Bear, how is she today? Hoping for more good news. I have just ordered some more cellfood on Ebay. It costs a bit less from one of the agents on there. I take it as well as give it to the dogs.
  8. I like appointment only, emergencies excepted. My vet is by appointment only but is always late. 20 minutes is the usual wait time. Yesterday I arrived with Faith for her appt and there was a woman in the reception area with toddler in a stroller, a Lab on a lead attached to the stroller and a hyperactive GR also attached to the stroller. No way was I taking Faith in with that GR acting like an idiot. When it saw Faith outside I thought it was going to pull the stoller over. It was a scene of total chaos. Faith is old and frail and she has cancer. If the GR jumped on her she would be hurt. There was also a girl with a young, very large, very lively Dane pulling its owner out of the consult room into the reception area. The woman with the Lab and GR eventually left. The Dane left dragging the owner down the street at a rate of knots. After a 15 minute wait out in the street I thought it was safe to go in when along came a woman with a very nervous Sheltie. This lady was obviously afraid of my Rottweiler and picked up the Sheltie so I suggested she go in before me. At least she went into the waiting room area so I could take Faith inside to the reception area. Fortunately the Sheltie was only there for the nurse to give it a shot so they left farily quickly and calm was restored. My disposition was not good after having to hold Faith outside for so long on the corner of a major intersection with heavy traffic in all 4 directions. Hopefully our vet visit tomorrow will be a calmer affair. efs. again.
  9. Great news that cellfood is working for her. I've almost run out and must get some more. Where do you get yours from? Please keep us posted on her progress. She's a brave little fighter and it looks like she might just win this battle.
  10. So happy to hear your puppy is improving. Was the product you gave her CellFood by any chance? I ask because I use this product for my sick dogs.
  11. I am so very sorry RMC, I know how devoted you are to Callie, she's the light of your life. Such heartbreaking news.
  12. He lives in your heart Loraine. Love transcends physical presence. You will see him again. For now, he's happy and healthy at the bridge. I miss my girl too so much too. Illness took her from me 15 months ago.
  13. Do you go to jail for patting someone else's dog? Why do you not understand what I am asking you? It is not that difficult. Here is my question for the third and last time. For pity's sake will you two take your silly argument privately and quit hijacking this thread.
  14. I've never needed to try this out but a few USA friends swear this Parvo Emergency Tea recipe works well for parvo pups. Go to:- http://www.parvobuster.com You may find some info on this site that is of value. edited because I keep leaving the ends off words
  15. Im in Mulgrave. Luckypup do you work from home or in a grooming salon? Mulgrave is not too far away for me.
  16. Very few dogs would react to their owners by 'mauling' them if their dog was startled or accidently had a tail or foot stepped on. I believe the child was bitten once. It was hardly a mauling though I would have expected the tabloid press to describe it as such. Strangely they didn't on this occasion. This wasn't the dog's owner but a child unknown to the dog who evidently, if what was stated in the paper is to be believed, fell on top of the dog. If, as was stated on here, the dog was eating a pigs ear it's unlikely the dog came up to the child. Dogs focus on eating their pigs ears. It's more likely the child went to the dog. In the Sunday HS the salon owner said children should not be playing around in hairdressing salons. Who knows whether she was playing around or whether, as has been stated, she was standing next to her mother. I was in a salon last week when a mother came in with two young children. The little boy was well behaved and sat quietly. The little girl ran around, squealing, fiddling with things on the trolleys and the junior hairdresser had her time cut out watching the child while the mother paid no attention. I have no opinion on whether or not the dog should be in the salon but it certainly should have been kept contained from children who are playing around in the salon. I keep my dogs away from running, squealing children no matter where we are when we come across them.
  17. Luckypup, where abouts in Melbourne are you?
  18. In the Melbourne HS this morning it was stated that the child fell onto the dog.
  19. Stumpy said he/she paid the groomer $60 (not $35) being that they normal pay $25 to us a DIY hydrobath. The difference was $35 not the cost of the groom. Some are not reading the post properly.
  20. What a sweet face. I am so sorry I couldn't help and I was too late. You will have so many Rottie friends at the RB waiting to greet you. Rest in Peace beautiful boy
  21. You could put him inside the cabin. Or you could have a crate attached to the floor of the ute for him to travel in safety.
  22. I know Sophie was individually cremated because they called to tell me they had the titanium implants that were in Sophie's knees from her cruciate surgeries and would I like them returned with her ashes. They were not previously aware of the implants so if they hadn't cremated her individually they wouldn't have known they were hers. They had phoned me earlier to tell me what time she was being cremated so I could keep her in my thoughts at that time. She was in my thoughts every minute of every day but it was thoughtful of them to let me know.
