  1. I will be on the German Shepherd Dog Leagues stand. The German Shepherd Dog League's demonstration team will be there both days giving a demonstration in the morning and the afternoon both days. The German Shepherd Dog League's demonstration team will also be at Woof-fest out at Doonside Bungarabie park, on 4th March.
  2. I would like to wish you all the best with your puppy in the future. Okay, don't stress, firstly just remember to worm puppy and toddler regularly. :) Toddlers and clothes wash, you might try a child gate which you can put your son on the otherside of, you might find one where it will fit in multiple doorways.
  3. I think you might need to find a broken window. Even if it is accidentally broken. Also can't you mistake the cat calls for cries for help and open up to check that someone isn't hurt inside? You need to get serious legal advice for this. Will the local police not help? I thought the RSPCA had the right to enter property.
  4. From what I understand the spokesperson needed people to realise how bad for the environment this grass was! So to get media attention the remark about importing elephants was made very tongue in cheek.
  5. For anyone interested in seeing some exceptional German Shepherd Dogs, the GSD National is being held in Newcastle, NSW. National Schedule What is interesting to note that here in Australia, GSD's have far less incidence of Hip and Elbow dysplasia than a lot of other breeds. Also the GSD breed average is lower than Golden Retreivers, Labradors etc. Looking forward to seeing people who are interested in the breed attending the National. Regards FH
  6. Having been a member of my kennel control for 30 years, I now have to provide identification to continue my membership. I am feeling very insecure about providing my documents, my husband who is a solicitor has asked our Kennel Control, for a copy of their policy on document and information storage. We also have asked them to provide us with information on whether they sell copies of teir membership lists. If I have to email them copies of our driver's licenses, I want assurances that the information will either be destroyed or securely filed. Does anyone else have these concerns or know what the Kennels controls policy with regards to our information?
  7. The owner walks the dog off lead everyday pass our house and passed the local primary school. We are not the first people this dog has rushed!!!! This dog looks very similar almost identical to pictures of purebreed Amstaff shown on American websites!
  8. I paid 1984 $200 for a GSD, now the cost for a GSD is around $2000, and a good quality show puppy is around $2500. I must say with the health checks in GSD's these days they tend to have good length of life, only a couple of months ago I received an email to say one of the puppies I bred 17 1/2 years ago passed away. If find now days the average life expectancy is around 13 - 15 years.
  9. Hi Pitchick It doesn't matter what the Dangerous Dog Law states, it is what your local council ranger decides is dangerous and what is not. Unfortunately, in our area Marrickville Council, even thoough OH was bitten by what appeared to me to be a large X-breed American Pitbull, and the dog chase my daughter and I. The police attended but the council has not acted on the dog at all!!!
  10. I am wondering about Dwarfism, there are a number of types of dwarfism (approx 300) If you can get to Dr Karen Hedberg at North Richmond, she has had a lot of experience in dwarfism in GSD's.
  11. In this day and age I don't see many kennels signs. They used to be very common 20+ years ago, prior to the advent of the internet. Now days I think most people have a web presence and don't have street signage. I must admit it isn't something I would recommend to people, like others I feel that it encourage theft.
  12. Thank you everyone for your replies, it has been very interesting to read. I had always been under the impression that as a breeder, when I was contacting another breeder, I was helping the breeder I was contacting by saying I believed the people I was inquiring for to be a suitable home. I also thought telling the other breeder I was a breeder, explained why I had a few questions about things like health certificates etc.
  13. Sway, I know how many puppy listings are on DOL, we contacted all the breeders and people that had puppies listed as well as the breed club in both states. I can assure you the email I wrote for this family went along the lines of:- Hi We are looking to buy a XYZ puppy from a registered breeder, we don't mind either a boy or a girl. We are looking for a healthy puppy with the relevant health certificates that the clubs breed secretary stated we should look for. We are a family/single person who owns our own home, has a completely fenced garden, however, the dog is to be an inside dog. Could you please email us back to let us know when you would be expecting a litter and whether we could put our names down for a puppy. Kindest Regards This is the basic email that was sent by the potential buyers, Please note this is not just one breed but a number that have failed to respond or at least reply to politely. The phone calls have been made in the same vein, and if I have made them it has been along the same way as well.
  14. Sway for the Golden Retreiver puppy it was for my boss and his family in Melbourne, I got his family to inquire in both states and still no luck. For my daughter's friend we have contacted puppy breeders in all states with no luck, the breeder that told her she had a puppy available told her this when another breeder had a litter and this girl was on both lists, she missed out on the other litter as she told the second breeder first breeder had contacted her to say she had a puppy available, then was told at 7 weeks just before she flew interstate to supposedly pick up puppy that the breeder was running it on and no longer available!!! The young guy and I did look in Qld and Vic as well as NSW but no luck. I promise you that I also hear stories from parents of my children's friends trying to buy puppies. I have to say that I have helped a number of parents buy purebred puppies as they have started the venture and found it very daunting with the attitudes displayed towards them.
  15. Jumabaar, I have spoken to breeders at shows, in fact that was were I made my first inqiries for friends. With each breeder, I explained I was asking on behalf of a friend, could I have a email address or phone number for friend to contact them, told them about friend and asked if they the breeder I was talking to would consider them a suitable home. Sway, I wrote what people needed to put into the email they sent, and we sent it from their home. I made the initial call because it was felt that I would know the right questions to ask the breeder. At least 2 of the above mention people have jumped thru amazing hoops, as they have been asked to provide references from local vet, information to prove they own their own homes, proof that their properties are fully fenced, asked all sorts of questions, been told by breeders they were on waiting lists and that there would be a puppy available during the year. Told there was a puppy available then told breeder had decided to run more than one puppy on, it gets a lot harder to keep looking for a puppy when you believe you are on a waiting list, or your puppy has been born, particularly as there are only 6 breeders of a breed in your state that you are interested in.
  16. About 3 years ago I tried to help a person buy a Golden Retreiver puppy, this person wasn't worried about sex only that puppy had health checks. I worded an email for this family and made a lot of phonecalls on their behalf. Well they ended up after 9 months with a puppy from a petshop!!! The lack of replies and help from Golden Retriever breeders was amazing or so I thought. People owned their own home, children now aged 11 and 13, mum didn't work, the family had investigated local obedience club and had done their home work. On to a search for a small breed puppy for a good friend of my daughter's, requirement were, puppy needed to have health certificates and papers, preferred Main register because she would show puppy for first 12 months for experience in the ring before starting to trial, well after deciding that she liked 3 breeds and would be happy to take which ever breed became available, again I worded the emails, helped this girl make the phone calls, this girl was prepared to fly interstate, I would vouch for her, her horse vet was prepared to vouch for her! A year and a half later, she has given up on any of these 3 breeds. This girl owns her own home, she works but was organising to take time off to settle puppy in, puppy would have gone to work with her some days, price wasn't the problem. Single gay guy, very good family friend, owns his own home trying to buy one of the gundog breeds either, again I tried helping. No we don't want the dog for pig hunting. This guy was interested in maybe coming to agility with me, but just a nice healthy puppy was all he wanted, but with papers Limited register was acceptable. (He has ended up with a puppy form a petshop who has assured him that the puppy is from a registered breeder). He was desperate for company, waiting 6 months was as long as he was prepared to wait. Having read some of the replies of some breeders, having spoken to some breeders, having dealt with some of these breeders trying to buy a puppy. NO wonder why people buy puppies from pet shops!!!! I have never dealt with so many people that were outright rude, difficult to deal with and just plain obnoxious. Yes, as a breeder I know how much work we put into our puppies, I know how important good homes are, BUT all these homes were excellent homes. I am still insearch for a dog for one of these people, they would still like a puppy
  17. Abbiestar Don't do this to me, I entered Canberra and between entering and on the day I did my groin in, after all the accidents last year I thought I would try for 2012. Unfortunately my getting ready for 2012 has already been put on the back burner for 6 -8 weeks, getting ready to go out for New Years Eve and still being sober I managed to fall over and strip the liguments of the ankle bone again (2nd time in 18 months). However, I am convinced I will make either Sydney or Canberra this year, if the Diva doesn't come into season for one or the other. Looking forward to seeing how everyone goes this year.
  18. Hi Jacquie Please check your PM's I have sent you the details of a couple of litters, I would highly recommend. Neither are listed for sale yet but are from very good breeders. Cheers Diva's mum
  19. As a breeder, I thankfully have only had to have one puppy put to sleep due to a heart defect. BUT a number of years ago, I was asked by a good friend to have her young puppy 9 months come and stay with me as she was worried about the puppy's behaviour. (Friend had had 3 previous obedience dogs) After having the puppy for a few days I knew there were major problems. After 6 weeks, I agreed with my friend that there were distinct problems. We attended a behavioural vet and with a very heavy heart this puppy was put down. I advised the breeder who unfortunately was not interested!!! I know that other puppies from the litter didn't have a problem, for me this puppy would never have grown up into a safe dog around people or other dogs. I am also of the opinion that this behaviour can be there from birth, a bit like autism or other behavioural issues in people that you can only pick if you care enough. Hopefully, I never have to make the decision to put a puppy down early due to temperament, I would however make the decision to euthanise, it is cruel and unfair to a puppy to bring it up trying to change poor/bad behaviours that are hard wired from birth. It is also unfair to sell a puppy like this to a pet home were accidents could happen which could lead to someone being badly bitten.
  20. Some HGH lines are very closely related to showlines, as Karl Fuller of Kirschental fame, has for years combinded the current top Siegerschau dogs with his working herding dogs and bitches. A large number of herdinglines don't look out of place in the Siegerschau line up and some acutally compete in both. In 2010 the HGH dogs that competed at the Siegerschau contain lines froM Naxos/Negus vom Holtkamper See x 3, Odin vom Holtkamper Hof x 3, Godalis Tino x 2, with VA dog Quantum vom Fiemereck x1 and x 3 grandchildren, highly regarded showlines such as Bojan von Pendler x1 plus some grandchildren. There is very little divide between the herding community and the showline community, unlike between show and workinglines.
  21. Jane's dogs are not full HGH lines, however there is a NSW breeder who has imported pure HGH lines.
  22. Jane is a GSD specialist breeder and show person. Her two older GSD's are full german imports(both herd and have herding titles). Her new puppy is from a bitch that herds. Yes, Jane does herd in real life as well as for trialling. When she lived in WA she had her own sheep. Once her new house is build she will have sheep again.
  23. I apologise the last time I did research into Penn Hip, there were only about 3 vets that were doing Penn-Hip. That was about 5 years ago. It is interesting how many vets now seem to be doing Penn Hip. I still feel that without any breed information provided back to breeders or breed clubs it really has no place in a breeding program. My other concern with Penn Hip is people with pet puppies coming back to breeders claiming their puppy has HD when it is less than 12 months old.
  24. NO, Koehler's training methods have been out of fashion for so long, I don't think anyone uses it anymore. Also you can achieve far better results using the modern motivational methods.
