  1. I have to agree 100% with Pockets. I am having a litter in February, I haven't had a litter in about 8 years, this will be my 21st litter in 35 years. I have never ever knowingly sold a puppy to become a guard dog, I have always sold to loving families, in that time I have had 3 dogs back 2 due to divorce and 1 due to her owners death. For myself having seen the standard guard dogs have been kept in here in Sydney over the years there is no way I can justify to myself selling a puppy into those conditions. ie fleas, fly bitten ears, running eyes, open sores on elbows due to no bedding and emasciation! IF a GSD is going to be used as a guard dog it as a breed was bred to work one on one with a handler not as a guard dog alone or with another dog. If you look at the dog breeds you will find that the Dobermann was the breed that was bred more along the lines of being able to work in a compound situation.
  2. There are a lot of units in and around Sydney, where the strata title have been altered to allow pets. In fact a number I have seen advise if you don't like pets not to buy into the units. Also there is no size restrictions on the dogs and the cat units were inbuilt on the balconeys.
  3. Lex sire was a German dog. Just google GSDWorld.net for the GSD forum.
  4. Becks You are more likely to get information from a pure GSD forum, like GSDWorldwhere you will find a number of breed historians. Lex of Glanford is mention by both Nem Elliott and Malcolm Willis. His son came to Australia, Rossfort Premonition. Glanford is the kennel Suffex. Lex of Glanford was around in the 1960's. If you are looking for bloodlines from him they would be way off modern pedigrees. Jacqueline Fabian Publicity Officer GSDCA.
  5. The wonderful Diva passed her ET as well, my wonderful son Nick did the biking for me.

  8. Henson Park in Marrickville is lit, but I can't recommend it as there are a number of people who allow their dogs to attack others. Unfortunately, the best park does tend to be Sydney Park, as Clover Moore the Lord Mayor of Sydney is pro-dog. Marrickville Council is an anti-dog council, also try parks around Leichhardt as it tends to have a pro dog council. Good luck finding somewhere.
  9. I have always had all my dogs and bitches in the house, including during whelping. I have been lucky in the fact that I have found my bitches who have had puppies before tend to want to help, mum normally hasn't been to worried. I find I just end up with 2 bitches in the whelping box, one of my bitches used to come into milk as well so she would feed the puppies and I would end up having to dry up 2 bitches I would personally supervise your 2 girls and if mum can cope with auntie helping I would let auntie help. After all dogs are pack animals and in the wild some animals do have aunties that help the mums along. Wishing you all the best with your litter.

  16. For the 3rd time in 18 months I have stripped the liguments and tendons off the bone in my right ankle. At the moment the specialist and I are arguing over whether this time I have them sugically reattached or not. I am of the not opinion. The specialist has also banned the use of crutches as I tend to try on crutches to walk on the ankle again to quickly, hence I get a walking frame this week!!!! (Yep, very sexy) :) :) So now I need to know if there are any rules regarding trialing in a walking frame? I plan to have a letter from the doctor advising tha I have to use a walking frame, but I really need to trial my poor girl who has now been pulled out of the trial ring twice when she has been ready over my ankle. If anyone can find any rules, could you please post. Cheers everyone from a very bedridden trialler. :D
  17. We think 3 GSD's on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. I was told very big sweepstakes both days.
  18. Dexion: Does anyone know if the bottom of the crates sag ie a 40+ kg dog in the giant crate, when using the crate wheels in the link? Also is there an Aussie supplier for the wheels? Yes, my husband has had to put a couple of pieces of aluminum underneath as it sags quiet badly. If you want to use it like a trolley for shows, don't even go there.
  19. The amount of time, effort and energy to help people with their dogs of all-breeds and types, he is especially missed by the GSD world. Again were he helped so many people. My thoughts are with his wonderful wife, who supported him in his love of dogs. The sad thing is that these <I don't know what to call them> things, will never, ever realise how many people loved and knew Kojack/Bob and were helped, inspired by him. These things will never know how many children in hospital over Christmas, Bob made happy by visiting them dressed as Santa on Christmas morning, always accompanied by one of his beloved GSD's. Still miss you mate at shows and trials.
  20. Apparently the section on German Shepherds has been removed and will only be available on the DVD when it comes on sale!!!
  21. Years ago when tracking I taught my dog the IPO/Schutzhund method of tracking even though I was also going to do ANKC tracking. It was easier to teach the stricter method, so that I got quite good marks in tracking trials.
  22. Okay, what happens at Pet Expo in Sydney is there are only a certain number of stalls and each time different breed clubs are invited to participate. This year for the first time the Neopolitan Mastiffs and Dogue de Boreaux <please excuse spelling> Manchester Terriers, Coolies, Schipperkes were some of the breeds that were there. The only club that is invited back every year is the German Shepherd Dog League and that is because we have an obedience demonstration team which performs twice a day everyday. It is possible that the breed clubs that you have mentioned were not asked to participate this year, but could be asked to participate next year at Pet Expo in Melbourne. I hope this helps you to understand why your chosen breed was not there this year. Cheers
  23. I have to say that entry for adults is $15, $10 for children and $45 for a family. There are 35 dog breeds there, as well as cats, ferrets, rabbits and birds. The stall are mainly for the pet public, there is nothing we all haven't seen before. When you enter the dogs are so far from the stalls and the rest of the exhibits its not funny. Standing around at lunchtime I heard people saying it was to far to walk up to the see the dogs. The dog breeds that have stalls out there have put a lot of work into their stalls, so many clever talented people who have spent a lot of time, effort and money to put some of the displays together, if you have been involved in orgainsing some displays congratulations on your outstanding efforts.
