  1. Thanks k9angel and Bindo, will give him hugs and kissies. Struppie, Strolchie and I, had a lot of fun together, I think it shows in the photos, don't wont to give up on Struppie too soon. If he does not eat much one day, he makes up for it next day, I hope. :)
  2. What a happy pair, they are so lucky to have each other. Thanks for posting the beaut photos. :)
  3. Amazing morning so far, Struppie ate some more brekkie - 3x warmed up Frankfurts, also watches through window for birds. Will make the most of it.
  4. This morning Struppie waited/greeted us, with tail wagging, went outside a few times with OH, then ate some cheese, scrambled egg, pikelet, even briefly showed some interest in playing with his mates. Is asleep now. Looks like a reasonable good day for all of us. Yesterday, he enjoyed a walk down the paddock, but did not have much of an appetite all day. shepherds, will give him a hug from you. He gives out slobby kissies on the cheek, when you want him to.
  5. hi shepherds, pleased your Levi is not causing you any worries anymore. Your vet is unique, I think, what a lovely gift for you to receive in memory of Kobe. I took the five weeks annual leave, with the intention, to wholly spend it with our dogs/and also to make a decision about Struppie's condition/progression. Now the five sad weeks are coming to an end. Struppie, who had chemo last Wednesday, has 2x very enlarged lymhnodes in the chest area, 2x enlarged lymphnodes on each side of the throat - causing him to sometimes cough or maybe it's called gagging, hate that loud sound. On the back of both hindlegs, the lymphnodes have not increased too much in size over a period. All lumps are still fairly soft, probably meaning they have not spread? Struppie dislikes most foods now, will not eat in the mornings, we have to handfeed him most of the times. Today he ate 4x Arrowroot biscuits, softened up in milk (thanks stuffyluv for the suggestion), a few pikelets, 2x slices of Emmenthal Cheese, does not like Cheddar Cheese, atm. We try to give him soft foods now, he refuses to take his tablets, even wrapped in his once loved Liverwurst. His skin is improving with less Cortisone now, his hair is growing back slowly. He has grown white hair around his mouth, and has the looks and movement of a 16 year old dog now. We went for a walk yesterday, he was puffing along the way, and slowed down a lot uphill to the house. He still waggs his tail, barks when alerted, goes outside for a look/walk around, or lay down. He is going downhill, every day we watch for signs of pain or if he had enough. But we are grateful that we could hang on to him for an extra 13 months. So that sums it up, gives everyone an update on this/his disease. He is getting very close to joining his brother Strolchie in doggy heaven.
  6. Oh, I did not read beginning of thread - too long - only read towards the end.
  7. Just took the time to look into this thread. First, I thought you meant banned breed. No idea here, is this what you call a band breed?? Information, Facts & Origins of the Bandog Breed (Bandogge) The Bandog can claim its ancestry to the Molosser Dogs - It is not a pure bred dog and has descended from the cross-breeding of Pit Bulls, Mastiffs and Rottweilers. The literal meaning of the Bandog is taken from Band + dog giving Bound dog which refers to large and fierce dog, such as mastiffs, which were kept chained or tied up until they were released for guard dog duties or in some cases for fighting and bull and bear baiting. The Bandog has therefore classified as one of the Working Dog Group which we go on to describe in detail in the section at the bottom of this page. As there is not a specific breed standard Bandog is not Registered by the AKC (American Kennel Club) and is therefore in the category of dogs termed Unrecognised & Rare Breeds. Name Facts and Dog Names: This dog's name is often referred to as the American Bandogge or Ban Dog.
  8. The dogs don't look as if they are able to get off the ground in a hurry. Bloated!! My husband always reckons, the Quarter Horse is the tractor of the horseworld, suppose those stumpy legs don't turn him on.
  9. Does anyone know why these dogs wear collars with spikes? Cool or macho look, maybe? http://www.newenglandgottiline.com/gotti-line-pitbull-breedings-breeder-kennel.html
  10. Lovely to read, their dogs are also valued as family pets. :) Oldtimers used to say, if they are pets - they don't want to work anymore.
  11. That must be very comforting news for you. Hope you never have to experience it again.
  12. Could someone with experience/in the know how, please prepare an emergency plan - and advise us, what to do in self defence, when dog attacks on humans or pets are happening. How to get the attacking animal off people or our pets?? That's the topic I believe has not been covered yet, but is of utmost importance to the public.
  13. Nice to read that Lucy is doing so well, and has a good appetite, so happy for you both. What a blessing for you to come home to. Your son surely did a good job babysitting the dogs. :)
  14. Staffyluv, sorry to find out Zig is unwell again, I hope your vet will find the reason for it very soon - and it's only a minor problem.
  15. On another note, could we please do something productive, open our hearts - and consider giving a new life/start to some of the innocent bull breed dogs in pounds, atm, who are facing the death penalty - mainly purebred looking staffies and their crosses, by adopting one, or sponsoring one?? You can look them up on this forum under: Urgent Rescues and Requests?? This is meant to be taken in a nice, positive way. Thank you! :)
  16. I lost my adored friend, my GWP Strolchie (Darkwings Inverness Java X Korskote Xplosiv Klass) very unexpected and because of an insanely stupid misadventure. Even when only puppies, Strolchie and his litter mate Struppie tried to run away into the bush together, following their noses - too much of a temptation with all the wildlife surrounds. This time we had an old tractor delivered, which was a big event for us, after waiting eleven years, so unfortunately, a gate was left open, and the dogs were long gone when we noticed. Because we live remote, we had no clue what direction they could have taken. So we searched a whole week for them, had ads in local papers, announcements over the radio, posted on a forum, rang up pounds everywhere - even Canberra and Queanbeyan, left messages and flyers in service stations, bush pub, painted a sign and displayed on a bush road. Two of my husbands's friends came from far away to search, on the 7th day - while getting dark, my husband and friend found only Struppie, at an uninhabited property 1.4km from our house. He was on the other side of the creek, and had to swim back through the very cold water, to get to the car. My biggest nightmare came true, when after one week of very cold weather in October, with two nights of solid rain, my beloved pet - who had suffered from arthritis after having been kicked by a rescue horse, had not been able to keep up with Struppie, did not respond to being called for a whole hour, assumed to be somewhere else, was left behind for another night in the cold weather. Next morning, when we set out to look for him, we found him drowned, floating in the creek. He had tried to come home hours earlier, crossed the creek, and because of his muscle wasting, could not push himself out of the water, having missed the flat creek bank. With a last effort he must have tried to exit on a slight slope, and could not get through the tight bull rashes, out of the water. This memory will haunt me forever, as I know I have failed him, by not returning later on in the night, to wait for him. Sleep well, my Strolchie, all I have left now is your grave in our paddock. Strolchie on the left, Struppie to the right
  17. wuffles, best wishes for your big boy, hope he will hang around for you for a long time. :)
  18. shepherds, you were in my thoughts, too, felt like I was the only one here giving updates. :) Sometimes it appears Struppie has reached the end of his life, then when he seems a bit more lively, we think he wants to stay with us a bit longer, he wags his tail, wants to go for a walk, does not seem to be in any pain, can't say good bye to him yet. BTW, how is your Levi going??
  19. Hi Bindo, I have been wondering how you and Lucy are going, did not want to intrude. Great that she is doing so well for you, and you could have a good break away. We are always relieved when Struppie bounces back, not ready to lose him yet. He might not look pretty anymore, but if he wags his tail, gets up and walks around, gives you kissies on command, he still wants to be here - we think. Nice to have you back on this forum. :D
  20. Staffyluv, Struppie's fluid build up seems to be a side effect of Cortisone, for which he gets second daily Frudix tablets. The vet does the blood test for white blood cell count, every fortnight. http://www.ehow.com/info_8747888_effects-cortisone-canines.html Struppie was a bit flat for a while, and yesterday, when looking at him, my husband was wiping away his tears. It was decided to ask the vet for her opinion, and check him out. She thought it could be an infection again, the enlarged lymphnodes are still the same size they were weeks ago - they are still fairly soft, so probably have not got away. So we went ahead with chemo, an antibiotic injection, and 42 antibiotic tablets to take home. Well, we did not expect any miracle, but Struppie was more alert on the way home already, is more interested and happy today, wags his tail more often. He eats a bit now and then, dislikes vegetables and his anti - cancer diet, but the vet says any food will have to do now. Will have to try him on arrowroot biscuits /warm milk, thanks for the tip!! So now Struppie has made it to 12 months and two weeks, since start of his chemo treatment. I'm counting now. :)
  21. Just looked up Peta's page, they are working on something, assuming after reading this: Animal Rights Uncompromised. http://www.peta.org/about/why-peta/pets.aspx http://www.peta.org/about/why-peta/responsible-breeders.aspx
  22. Just came across this news report: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-06-03/action-urged-to--shut-down-puppy-farms/4728674?section=tas
  23. Well spoken, it is both - plus the unpredictable Murpy's Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong!
  24. He really shines in the last photo. Sorry you had to let him go.
