  1. Gonna put on the flame suit here and ask about importing a docked dock and not being able to do anything with it. At the moment there are still dogs being imported from other countries that have cropped ears (because this is what these countries do), when here, these dogs cannot be shown (can't comment on other disciplines - cause I don't know) but we still import them. Why?
  2. Just went into my converter a 45kg dog would be 99pounds, so maybe their small rotties?????
  3. I own 3 dogs, 2 Dobermanns a dog and a bitch and a Tenterfield Terrier female who's desexed. None of these Guys can decide who owns the place. I watched my Tentie go to the toilet. My male Dobie walked over to the spot and marked it, my female Dobie then came over sniffed for a bit and marked it, to which my Tentie (who had peed there in the first place) came over had a sniff and marked it again. What's hilarious is to watch my two girls cock their legs. My Dobie does the one leg and just looks awkward, my Tentie actually backs up to the spot and does a handstand to pee.
  4. So your dogs to friendly. For all of those who let their dogs race up to anyone and anything.
  5. Why aren't you training your dog not to react instead of hitting him? I tried, I got someone in to take a look. My rotti REALLY hates the mailman. He's fine with everything and everyone one else but not the mailman. I think it might be because the mailman did some stuff to him while he was younger. He gets into a 'I'm gonna kill you' mode only with the mailman. I tried almost everything, only the newspaper can snap him out of that aggressive mode. Probably because of the noise it makes. Then why is your dog in a position where he can see the mailman? And if he isn't, why does it matter if he goes OTT at the sound? Does he redirect aggression? I live in a house, fully fenced and gated at least 2m high. My rotti have full access to the house. The mailman rode in with a scooter. The engine of the scooter can be heard hundreds of meters away. My rotti will wait for the mailman by my front gate. I tried redirecting his attention with toys and checking him whenever he tries to pounce but I find rolled up newspaper the most effective. It creates a light touch and a sound. He'll turn his attention to me and I praises him. He doesn't show any aggression towards me. By the time the whole routine is over, the mailman will be gone and he return to being fun-loving Rocky. BTW, what's OTT? I'm not saying what you do is right or wrong, that's not for me to judge. What I'm writing for is the dog's perspective. He's lying quietly in his yard and then this horrid noisy thing comes up to his front gate. Your dog races up to the gate telling him to "wrack off" and the bloke with the noisy thing does and usually quite fast. Your dog has had a huge win and this happens each and every day.
  6. My guys sleep on the floor of the bedroom and my boy sleeps up near my bedside table to get as close to me as possible. Last night my Hubby and myself were haveing adult cuddles and all I kept getting were sighs from the side of the bed. Hehehe
  7. Ok found out the Queenland ones Mackay is the 23rd June Tableland is the 7th July Nanango/Ipswich is the 4th August And Nanango is the 25th August So I have until August to prepare
  8. I have done this and it does work. The vet issue, I just took her to the owners vet and they had an account with them, I didn't pay for anything and this included a snake bite. I received a payment in my bank account once a month to cover her expenses such as food ect. Even giving her back at the end, wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, because all the way along, I was giving her back, if that makes sense. I still fell for her, hook, line and sinker, but constantly knew she wasn't mine in the end. It's a bit like when you fall for your friends dog, you love seeing them and playing with them, but they're not yours. If the circumstances are right for you then go for it.
  9. I have the same thing, I leave the dogs in the car until its time and if I have more than one dog needing to be seen, I leave the other one in the car and do a swap.
  10. I was going to suggest Friendly Dog Collars too They make harnesses too.
  11. Enough!! Thankyou, I really appreciate everyone's comments and we now have a lot to think of. This isn't something we're planning on rushing into and we'll look at all the different breeds of dogs. Thanks
  12. Problem is that with all of the election papers sent out they only got 32% back. If people didn't vote, they can't get upset with who got in. And yes I realise the people above said they voted, but by the looks of it, they're the minority.
  13. If you want a cheap but decent quality meat for you dogs, go to the local butchers and ask them to collect the bone dust for you. You know how when you are sawing wood, you get sawdust, the butcher saw dies the same thing. In it is all sorts of meat and bones. My dogs love it, I mix it with the dry. My butcher charges me $1 per kilo.
  14. Thankyou everyone for all the wonderful suggestions, you've given us a lot to think about. The one breed that's coming up a lot and one I had actually thought of before I wrote this is the Aussie's (I'm hoping I'm guessing right on that being the Aussie Shephard). But no decision to be made in the near future, it was just something to think about, so now my daughter can have s look around at the different breeds. I really appreciate your help.
  15. She'll keep going with the agility and we do lure coursing for fun (my Dobies can never compete with the sight hounds lol) but they have a ball doing it. Cinder started well, but once I think she realised she couldn't catch the lure, she wasn't interested any more.
  16. No showing, we'll probably end up desex ing, whatever we get. Shortish hair as, as much as my daughter will be looking after it (she looks after Cinder), its ultimately me who has to look after them. Me and brushing every day, don't agree ;)
  17. It's not all day every day, but yet it seems to be times for it and times to lay down. Then there's times like tonight, where I watched my male Dobie lie down on the grass and Cinder raced over and playfully attacked him. I just honestly don't think the Dobies realise they're so much bigger. I've told them off when I catch them and they stop and while its school holidays, Cinder can be inside with the kids. But I worry about when I'm not home.
  18. I'm being very careful where I advertise her, as I'm being cautious as to who gets her. I have her up here and on a closed FB page, that is only for Amberley Defence People and my own FB page. I'd like to be able to track her and keep an eye on her. And Christmas time doesn't bother me, as she's staying here till she finds a new home. So I'll keep putting the word out and sooner or later, the right person will come along. ;)
  19. Hehehe my poor Dobies, they'd be horrified to hear they can't "play rough"
