  1. Happy birthday Stan! God you're amazing. And Maddy, who always looks so demure and dignified.. :)
  2. There are 5 pages of people mostly agreeing about the 'haggling' thing, so.. moving on. What I always find weird is the 'what would a breeder think of this' etc. Breeders are just people - approach them as you would approach a person you don't know. The way they respond to anything you ask is going to vary in the same way that you ask anything of ANY PERSON. Some people are terrible at reading and conveying emotion or humour in writing, some come across as rude and abrasive in email, some people hate the phone, some like to chat and keep in contact a lot, others want to keep communication to a bare minimum. So whatever discussions anyone has with a breeder will be partly to do with the fact that they're talking about dogs, but underscoring that is the fact that they're a person you don't know. Some people will think a particular line of questioning is fine, others will think it's rude/unnecessary/unnerving - that's not because they're a breeder, it's because they're a person.
  3. One of my friends works at the daycare that Roo goes to - I love seeing her pop up in my facebook feed! I have been following this thread and when I first saw her on my facebook I did a huge double take... but it was her! :D
  4. Percival (Percy), Horatio, Belvedere, Frank, there are a few Geoffreys at my park, Dashiell (Dash!), Dougal, Winston, Clarency, Norbert, Walter, Otto (!!! I love this one), Elroy, Hubert, Cecil, Harold Old man dogs are the best. I currently have an old man foster :)
  5. I'm in Brunswick too - personally I would avoid any of the ones local to us here.. I went to Four Paws K9 Training in Keilor which is about 20 mins drive. Four Paws also do short training courses in parkville which might be worth looking into. Much closer, but being a short course, maybe not what you're after.. I stated off going to an obedience school in moonee ponds. Never again. I really regret ever taking my dog and think it set her back many many months - she was very un socialised and terrified when I got her at 3years. Wish I'd gone straight to Four Paws - the staff there actually haven qualifications and training, and an understanding of dog behaviour. Which is more than I can say for some other local places.. Put it that way ;) Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  6. They can't do random secret checks, it's more likely to be a strange weird person. Which is still disconcerting, but perhaps a bit reassuring :)
  7. totally disagree! Maybe that works for you, but for me, one or two dogs is fine, three is ok.. 10 is a completely different story. Four would be a completely different story.
  8. Two of my own (aged 11.5 and 5) and one foster. I think 2 is the perfect number for us at the moment, but our little foster dog is no trouble at all, he sleeps most of the time and it's still easy to take my girls out for a long walk or run at the park, and leave him at home. He doesn't even notice ;) I agree with those that say it depends on the dogs in question though. If it were dogs like my foster dog, I could have 700 of them and it would be fine. :D
  9. There have been a few threads recently about really dodgy "rescue" groups so I suppose it does hit a nerve, but just because there are a lot of passionate people involved in rescue here :) It's unfortunate that it does seem like a really extra-positive thing when a rescue will take a dog back if something goes wrong, because that should be the default position in my opinion!
  10. It has. Well that means jack to Ash1 seeing he/she hasn't enough posts for OT. And that means jack to me because I can't see post counts, nor do I check everyone's post counts before replying. What is she ash meant to do, apologise? It's generating discussion.. the point of the forum.. New members shouldn't be scared to post anything at all in case someone once posted about it. There's a difference between asking an inane question that has been asked millions of times and could be answered by a 2 second google search, and just making conversation or sharing something interesting.
  11. I'm so, so sorry xxxxxx I saw Ruth's post come up in facebook feed and couldn't believe it. RIP Charlie, you were so loved.
  12. Oh yeah. I've been vegetarian for 14 years but I still spend an inordinate amount of time and effort at the butcher and meat aisle!
  13. I read your tribute at work the other day, and had to quickly lose the window and walk away from teh computer because I was going to lose it. I'm so sorry for your loss - she is an absolutely beautiful dog <3 RIP Brianna
  14. I stared at it for ages - it just looks so strange to me and I can't quite work out exactly what it is. I'm sure the angle is skewiff, but .. her neck looks much longer and thinner than I suppose I'm used to seeing in racing greyhounds. And her chest, it's just a different shape. I haven't seen m/any showbred Australian greys, let alone American ones.
  15. Some of those call names - love them! Some of the photos are really awful though.. and the Greyhound just looks.. weird.. Is it just me? Maybe it's the angle, but ... does that dog look strange to anyone else? Actually, the more I see, the more uncomfortable they make me. The Weim..
  16. Ohhh he's gorgeous! I love me my silver poodles! The poor little tyke though, ears, teeth AND skin.. he's probably in a world of discomfort. I doubt I could resist keeping him either. In fact, yeah, there's no way I could resist
  17. We needed new stamps at work, so I SPECIFICALLY requested dog packs. Just to spite me, the a-hole clerk got 2 packs of SURFING ONES. :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad
  18. Ohh I just saw a pic on FB (one of my friends works at Ka-Pooch) and recognised her from this thread! I haven't even posted in here, but have been reading and silently wishing you well. I've never been to Ka Pooch either, but I would trust Em with my dogs 100%. She's in good hands there
  19. Ha ha ha - well do we know. But he is protective little soul too and has to make sure that all goes well in there  Do you still have any fosters for RWL? Yeah, we still have the Pancho man! Who has weaseled his way into my heart, the little bugger! Alas, I have to choose between failing and continuing to foster, so I have to put the greater good ahead of my own selfish desires and just pretend that he's mine until the right home comes along :)
  20. Just to make you feel better, this is what I came home to the other day - after having left the house for 10 minutes. The dog responsible is my foster dog who is 6 years old, probably with some collaboration from my 5 year old poo(dle).
  21. They did give her a reason - several, as listed. Yeah, but I mean they may have just been made up ones or not the REAL reason :)
  22. Oops - my mistake. I heard someone say they were $600, that's what you get for not checking!
  23. He's just gorgeous :D He's a lovely old man, just trotted around being cute with his little tongue hanging out the side of his mouth  He doesn't have m/any teeth left so his tongue pops out and makes him even more adorable! I just love old dogs, and his face is all white - he's just a total lover. Dutifully followed me to the toilet and sat there smiling. You know. :D ETA - I didn't see him to enquire about adopting! I just met him cause I'm lucky :D He's not coming home with me, don't worry!
